Those are amazing shots. Do more of those of insect, because seeing it this close makes me actually see it has thoughts and spirit just as any other animal. We often see insect as if it would be some non-living thing without any personality. But this made me feel like if it would be a bunny washing it's ears. Never have I thought a vasp can be actually cute :D

@@Bekisutton They "don't help the environment whatsoever"? They help keep pest insects in check on farms that grow produce you may be consuming. It takes mere seconds to use a search engine and type in "what is the purpose of wasps" and find out what they do for the environment.

I'm the one who edited this one, and I was itching throught the entire edit. Also wasps actually have a purpose in most countries, they eat mosquitoes and other insects. And they they do have predators in the US.

Wow the color is so vivid. I always liked insects. As a child we used to keep praying mantis in bug keepers. We would catch crickets and grasshoppers to feed them. Even 45 years later I'll never forget the way they ate their prey, a leg dropping to the bottom of the cage as it chewed away! Love that green color that most of them were. Occasionally one would find a bronze mantis.

Not a big wasp fan. They are beginning to realize they do pollinate things though. Hang a paper bag outside your door, they think the area is already taken and move on. Soapy water is the best wasp killer, and leaves soap film on a nest. They will build elsewhere. Just make sure your sprayer is on steam, mist is way to close for me. Way cool shots.

That's a German Yellowjacket queen (vespula germanica). They can get pretty big - around an inch long with an abdomen about 1/4" in diameter. The German Yellowjacket isn't as aggressive as many of the native US Yellowjackets, but they have a bad habit of building their nests in voids of buildings (especially inside walls and soffits)
@amaureaLua2 жыл бұрын
Are you sure you're not getting the size confused with a European hornet (vespa crabro)? According to wikipedia, german wasps are about 13 mm long, which is about half an inch. The european hornet is 25-35 mm, or about an inch, and is said to be relatively unaggressive compared to yellowjackets.
