I'm almost 64 years old, and it's amazing how dramatically the American diet has changed since I was a kid. I remember my mom & grandma cooking roasts, whole chickens, dried beans, fresh garden vegetables, eating fresh fruits at breakfast and lunch, etc. By the time I was in third grade, my mom was working and started buying things like Kraft macaroni and cheese and spaghetti mixes, using cake mixes more often, etc. It started with marketing convenience foods and Coca-Cola to housewives, then sugary breakfast cereals with the Saturday morning cartoons for kids. McDonald's or pizza went from a treat to an almost daily after-work quick meal for many families. Now people won't even drive to pick up their groceries or meals anymore! DoorDash.

This series is awesome!! My mom and I have been wanting to incorporate more plant based foods into our diet and I've created a list of a few recipes we should try. Thanks for the inspiration!! Also those purple sweet potatoes look so good I need to find them!

You guys are doing great! I love seeing you cook and just being honest with your struggles and also your success. Would love to see a video specifically how and where y’all grocery shop. My struggle when grocery shopping is plastic. Would love to see a video of tips and tricks on how to grocery shop more sustainably.

I’m sorry I’m late 😢 but welcome to the KZbin community. I’ve wanted to do KZbin myself. But I’m not confident enough to start and more then likely I’m only gonna get 10 views 😂😂 anywho our American diet is so poor and unhealthy even the poor back in the 1800s ate better then we did now!! I have high blood pressure and constant low blood sugar I’m on the road to pre diabetes. So I need to quit processed sugar and no boxed food items etc!! I’ve learned everyone has different opinions on what no processed means. But it’s a learning experience for all of us. Your videos have been helpful but due to having low blood sugar it’s gonna suck quitting sugar so my diet will have meat cause high protein keeps me from having a low blood sugar crash. And maybe eventually go to vegan once everything goes to normal. Thank you for sharing your experience! I’m glad you guys are able to do this together! Cheers to a healthy lifestyle!! 🎉

This is super interesting thanks guys! It's defo making me want to reduce processed foods again, although as someone with a bean intolerance and a partner who doesn't enjoy cooking like I do, I'd definitely struggle to do this whole challenge! Fair play guys 👏

I eat mostly whole food. Very little processed. Im on some fb groups as well and Its the same thing I never understand about the way people make it so hard to eat better. Why do you need to cook hours to eat plain food ? Cooking the food kills most of their nutrients. I jist eat raw or boioed and if I do boil I re use the water to cook rice. Making bread is the opposite of whole food diet. I dont eat bread. I cant really afford the super expensive and rare fresh organic so I buy lots of frozen fruits for smoothies and also grow microgreens and sprout. I dont cook. I eat healthy and I have more time.
