Hi MrsPP.😘 Writer Eric Stewart said the song was about trying to talk himself out of being in love with his girlfriend. The soundscape was created by having the 4 band members sing a single note in unison. They repeated this process until every note of every chord played throughout the song had its own loop. (256 vocal dubs were required) The loops were then fed back through the recording console with each loop being delegated (by certain chords and phrases) to the individual band members and engineers, As the song progressed, the loops were faded in and out as each chord change occurred. By doing so, they were able to create a music bed of only voices. A remarkable achievement for 1975 analog technology. Happy day After Valentines Day Blessing❤ You pal, RNB

Very interesting documentary about 10,cc explains exactly how they recorded the choir noises in the background. They all sang the parts individually. The receptionist in the studio is the woman's voice. Eric Stewart wrote it he's the singer.

10cc are a great English rock band from the 70's. This group was super talented as every member was a multi-instrumentalist, singer, writer & producer. "I'm Not In Love" was their biggest hit in 1975 but they had other songs such as "The Things We Do For Love", "Rubber Bullets", "The Dean & I", "The Wall Street Shuffle", "Silly Love", "Life Is A Minestrone", "Art For Art's Sake", "I'm Mandy, Fly Me" etc.

Oh he’s in love lol The background vocals were on a loop and it was very difficult to create that sound with the technology at the time. It still sounds great and stands out. It peaked at #2 in 1975.

I grew up listening to these guys in the 70's, so talented & artistic. This & Bohemian Rhapsody came out in the same year, both were enormously creative, innovative & commercially successful. To create the multi layered vocal effect they recorded multiple vocal parts on multiple tapes which they looped around multiple mike stands into multiple reel to reel tape machines. This was pre digital glorious era of analogue ingenuity. Queen, Yes, Floyd, Genesis etc were similarly creative in the studio. Recommend you check out their brilliant suite "One night in Paris" from the same album "The Original Soundtrack" which is a masterpiece. Cheers

The Song was to his Ex-Wife the one he lost everything to... He just letting her know she lost a'lot when loosing him when she lost him she screwed up he is pouring his heart out... This song is so misunderstood. Just about everyone thinks he's in denial, but that's really not it at all. Most guys, regardless of how handsome and charming, experience their first real heartbreak for the same reason, because they wore their hearts on their sleeves and ceased to be any kind of challenge, a common mistake all young guys make when young girls are still attracted to guys who present a challenge. So they (guys) left themselves vulnerable by being too clingy and got their hearts broken for it, cheated on and/or dumped. Afterwards, like the guy in this song, they are careful not to repeat the same mistakes, so they go to the opposite extreme, even if it's just a front like it obviously is here. Actually it goes both ways. It can happen to women too. It's sad, but a broken heart really changes people, makes them more guarded.

Eric Stewart, the writer and singer of this song explained this about the song................. "At that time my wife and I had been married about eight years," Eric Stewart recalls, "and she asked me 'Why don't you say "I love you" more often?' I had this crazy idea in my mind that repeating those words would somehow degrade the meaning, so I told her 'Well, if I say every day "I love you, darling, I love you, blah, blah, blah," it's not gonna mean anything eventually.' That statement led me to try to figure out another way of saying it, and the result was that I chose to say 'I'm not in love with you,' while subtly giving all the reasons throughout the song why I could never let go of this relationship. Eric and his wife Gloria are still married after more than 50 years( but I don't think it'll last, "It's just a silly phase he's going through.")
