This song brings me back to my early Junior High years!! Love the 60’s & 70’s music!! Paul McCartney was once asked if there was one song he wished he had written .. he replied, A Whiter Shade Of Pale. It was the song that Paul & first wife Linda Eastman, danced to on their date!! 💚💜💙 Would love to hear CRIMSON AND CLOVER! ☘️

Hi Debra, always a pleasure to chat with you. I had no idea that Paul saud that. It seems it was a favourite of many artists. Someone else mentioned that John Lennon loved it too. It is a great song. Crimson and Clover...you got it 🥰💗

Wow! What an amazing version of this song Sue! I remember this song when it came out back in the 60's - my dad was completely taken with it and if it was on Top of The Pops, we had to sit in silence while he watched it. The orchestra and choir just add so much to an already fantastic song.

Thank you Sue, just beautiful. One of the most successful singles in music history, with more than 10 million sales globally and covered by over 1000 artists (including our own John Farnham). It tied with Bohemian Rhapsody in 1977 as the best British pop single from 1952-1977 and is listed no. 57 in Rolling Stone’s top 500 songs of all time !

Ahhhh, now THIS one I can really relate to. When this was released, here in the UK, I was but a slip of a lad at the tender age of 17. I'd just secured a residency gig at a holiday centre, playing drums in the resident band for the summer on a small island in the far south of the UK (I also met my wife there - we're still together). This song, to any Brit who lived through that period, was the song that defined the summer of 1967, when we'd read in the newspapers about San Francisco, and the hippy movement, and pass flowers to anyone we met who seemed to be having a bad day. The song meant nothing, really, it was just a bunch of words that rhymed, sometimes, and had a slightly sad, nostalgic, feel-good factor. But that first Hammond organ note screams "1967" at you. Thanks for posting.

Spectacular performance My first ever real concert was 3rd Feb 1981 : Eric Clapton Gary Brooker played keyboards in Eric Claptons band on that tour and he sang Whiter Shade of Pale mid concert and Eric on guitar / gary on Organ : Rose colored glasses over passage of time but I remember it as every bit as good as what i just watched. When this was released it was a game changer but only for 2 weeks WSOP was released 12 May 1967 2 weeks later 26 May : Sgt. Peppers was released

Imagine sitting outdoors on a summer eve in Denmark and getting this beautiful elixir for the ears. You don't expect Gary's powerful voice in this serene orchestral setting. Let's see Kanye West do this, LOL!!! Even with a full orchestra and chorus the vocal, organ, drums and piano shine through. Love the glissando on the organ @6:37!!! So many interpretations. Some say it relates to the "Canterbury Tales" with references to the miller and the vestal virgins. My interpretation may be WAY off base but I see it as a drug reference. "Her face at first just ghostly turned a whiter shade of pale" (the pallor of death), "though my eyes were open they might as well have been closed", "the ceiling flew away". Regardless it is a beautiful performance of a beautiful song. Who writes stuff like this now? "Conquistador" by Procol Harum with the Edmonton Philharmonic is another beautiful presentation. I never heard a cover of this either. Like you, I can't imagine it!!! Curious if Chelsea has seen this. I have seen it a dozen times.

@@playitagainsue - I used to go to Artpark in Lewiston, NY quite often when I was younger and they had terrific performers, everything from Preservation Hall Jazz Band to the Moody Blues and Procol Harum in a beautiful setting like this on the Niagara River. To top it off, after the show we would go to "Hibbard's" in Lewiston for REAL homemade frozen custard. DANG it was good. Now I'm hungry! Memories. "Procul Harun" in Latin means "far beyond these things". It fits.

@susieq9801 I have been to Art Park, Linda. They have had some great acts there. I saw a really great 80s line up there once with Thompson Twins, Howard Jones, B52s and I think Culture club...great day. I am actually going across tomorrow not ti Art Park but Buffalo to see Earth Wind and Fire and Lionel Richie...should be fun. I love what PH means. It totally fits. I don't know Hibbards but I love frozen custard 🤩❤️

..I seem to be in the vast minority with this one, Sue, based on the large number of music critics and fans ( including you and those posting here ), in that I don't think of this in such massively glowing terms .. I think it's a good song, but there's many thousands I would rather listen to .. The feel of it, particularly the organ sound, used to actually somewhat depress me, reminding me of being in church ( which I found boring ) and funeral music .. I got past that, and I now like the song, but it's still nothing particularly special for me .. But I can acknowledge this is a pretty good live performance .. So it looks like we have another spicy difference of opinion here, Sue !😉😄

Haha 🌶🤩. So interesting. I love to hear other sides and why, in this case, you don't care for it. I definiteky see what you are saying about the organ reminding you of church but I love the organ in it. Well you know we like what we like and there is nothing wrong with that. Forever keeping it spicy, my friend 🌶🥰🤣💜

That's a new and if I may say so, a nonsensical. Interpretation. The lyricist, Keith Reid, said that the lyrics weren't meant to be taken literally and that he was simply trying to create a mood by putting together a series of phrases. Think of it as an abstract painting-----it is whatever you want it to be.
