Yumi Matsutoya has the emotion and certainly proves the song's international appeal and to have the actual band Procol Harum backing her up -- what an achievement. Brooker sings new words and simply updates the song brilliantly. As usual, the band continues through the decades -- despite changing members -- to sound like what Procol Harum is. I have renewed respect for lead guitarist Geoff Whitehorn -- who is amazing and had come to fill the shoes of many astonishing PH lead guitarists. The band actually sounds exactly like the original 1967 band....and on this night, Tokyo, Japan had them. Yumi is no amateur either -- she has sold over 42 million records in Japan and has had twenty-one #1 albums. She also looks pretty good for a 60 year old.

With no background info at all on Yumi's work, the very first time I heard Yumi's "Hikoukigumo" I felt immediately like a deja vu of Procol Harum's "shade of Pale". The two songs styles are not quite alike but there was something on the pure feeling side which connected them right away in my mind.
