Forest don't get me wrong, I like your channel and where you hike. How often did I pass those areas throughout my life traveling from Socal to Mammoth on the 395 and wonder about those peaks and backcountry areas viewed looking out my window on the way? Hundreds of times, and always yearned to visit them, which I now do through you. But I felt I have to chime in here regarding the safety of your dog in this video. Again, don't take me wrong. A third party evaluation of safety procedures is a regular and essential part of all institutional professional operational jobs, which I have been involved with my entire life. A few times the dog can be seen to scramble accross a section of precipitous ridge with you or Lou holding on to its retracting leash as a safety measure. But really, is that retracting leash the right safety tool for the job? Let's look at the equation of force created by an object falling a certain height, E=mgh, where E equals energy or force, m is mass of object, g is gravitational acceleration (9.81 meters per secon squared), and h is height the object falls. Do you thing the little retractable leash apparatus can hold together upon the impact force generated on it when it fully extended if your dog fell off the ridge? Rope the dog up properly next time, please, and check if you have the proper harness for it with the same calculation in mind. I enjoy where you go, what you do, and your humble genuine attitude presenting it...and I love dogs and people's relationships with them. Be safe, John.

I can't get over how wild Rocko's life is. To her it's just perfectly normal to scale huge rocky peaks that no dog has probably ever been to before. I hope she knows how good she has it.

Rocco had no business being up there, let alone on a leash!! It would have been very easy for him to get caught up in that leash and then falling. The dog should have spent that morning in the van sleeping.

By the looks of it Louie already got him into climbing and doing bigger hikes as pair is imo. easier and safer than alone. I'm increasingly nervous for those narrow climbs you are doing. 😬 I don't know if it's age and I have become much more aware of risks. I'm 42 now and nothing has really stopped me athletically before, but 1½ year ago a fell on an electric skateboard, fractured my shoulder and I will probably never regain full movement... sometimes silly things comes with pretty dramatic consequences. Just be safe out there! It's great seeing you have so much fun!

We had a JRT, Josie, and she would go where no human dared. She would’ve been running along that ridge like nobody’s business. Where we went, our Josie would be running ahead, leading the way. And Rocko had a lead and harness so she was safe.

Cool video, that ridge scramble was fantastic. Just a thought though, I would not trust the clasp on Rocko’s leash and I would not trust holding the handle in my hand. I climbed with a dog for years and when he got tied in, it was always with the same precautions we took.
