A country like ours where we have so many festivals dedicated to celebrating Godesses and the power and strength we draw from them, where did we lose the plot? Why are we still killing our daughters? Why do we still treat them as a liability and not a child who deserves to see the world? Will we ever get out of the clutches of patriarchy and do better?

Rather than worrying about whether it's a boy or a girl, worry about how you are going to raise them, how you are teaching them to treat others and how they are going to stand up for themselves. Even in 21st century this practice is going on. We are developing and underdeveloping simultaneously. And thank you to the Happy Slate for always bringing in crucial topics that really deserved to be discussed rather than what is currently being discussed on social medias nowadays

U are right that daughter should have to prove and son does not. But a thing that u say is wrong. Everyone say that "Lets make our parents proud" means not that all were saying that daughters have to prove someone still saying this but not everyone. Others are saying that the respect parents get from a son were we can have to give our parents as daughters. This is the way we can say that all who are saying after the birth of son "beta hua hai ab toh apke budhape ka sahara aaya hai" and saying after the birth of daughter "beti hui hai vidaai me hi sab kuch chala jaega. Iss ghar ke kharche nahi udha paegi" is totally wrong.

"18 years of my struggle couldn't suffice what a 3 year old human with a penis did" So I am an only child to my parents. I've always wanted a sibling no matter boy or girl but now that I am 18, I was quiet used to being a girl child. My parents have always said that us 3 are enough, we dont need anything more. Little did I know my mom lied to me when she said that. I remember once when I was like 7 or 8 years old and my dad asked me to massage his legs. Like usual, he was laying down and i stood on him, massaging him by my legs. I don't remember the details but I remember him saying "If i had a son, he must be massaging my legs by his hands." That was the last day I've ever massaged my parents' body by leg. I've always used my hands to massage their body. Back to this month, my mom got to know that someone was putting up their son for adoption for a mere compensation of 3 lakhs. My mother had never been so much excited in her life, she literally almost cried of happiness. I didn't oppose her, I've always wanted a sibling. She didn't care about dad's choice and went to adopt him. When i talked to dad, I realized he was so hurt because she was adopting another child. Later my mother canceled the adoption because many other people denied and her mood was changed. I still cant forget her words from that day "A boy is necessary for our upbringing future", "he will fight for us", "people will scare from us if we have a boy" and what not. I have always been taught that girls and boys are same. But that was the moment I realised no they aren't.

These are all old thinkings that only a son can cremate or perform the last rites of the parents. I'm a girl and even though I have a brother I had performed the last rites of my father a few years back when he passed away, because at that time COVID 19 was at its peak and my brother was in quarantine. So the whole point is whether yor are a boy or a girl it doesn't matter we're deserve equal treatment by the society. P. S. I'm not a feminist.

My father was disappointed when he found out that i’m a girl. But my mom never given up on me and was happy that she is going to raise a girl. Now, I am no longer living with my ab*sive father and have a lovely stepfather who takes care of me like his own daughter ☺️. As a muslim, we also sometimes get disappointed when we had a daughter in family. But in Quran, Allah literally said that having a daughter as a first child brings a lot of blessings from Allah and heaven. Problem is not in that we don't want daughter. Problem is in dowry still 99% people find their respect how much dowry they get from their daughter in laws.....2nd thing is why we invest in our daughters one day they go and their in laws enjoy from her hard earned money. If we able to change this I think 70% solution is solved

If you support and propagate dowry then the ills related to it remain. Solution starts from grass roots. Each and every educated girl , mother, grandmother should refuse to bow down to dowry. If you are educated and able to work then why will you pay to get married!!! That is potential in laws greediness and using their useless son to make money.

My dad and I were arguing bout girls. He was talking shit bout girls and I was telling no girls are educated girls too can do many things than household chores. He said girls are only for home and marriage. I said no. He got angry and said you are a girl! U do it and show me. Then I'll shut my mouth. I was surprised ik he did that to motivate me to study unlike other girls who are made for marriage. He was right his both sisters got married and have bad life so he often scolds me to be independent girl later women.

Having a daughter is bad..when you have to spend millions on her wedding that can't even give her security for guarantee..but you can't spend that money for her own career or business.....that's where the problem started.. You all can send us to someone else's home full of strangers ..with all your money....but you can't grow us and enjoy our money..and growth..as some son's parents do.. Who is stopping girl child parents to do all of these things..??..nobody ok.. society is just an excuse.. Ok real story ..nowadays people around me are supportive of girls careers.. but one day an aunty said why you need a new room it's not like you are gonna live all your life here..and keep bringing my marriage and stuff.. I just ask her one question..are you happy since you are married??..she can't and..then i said you are not happy bcoz you are here to spend your free time but still worried about how your 50 year old baby is gonna eat.... I told everybody if somebody else is gonna butt into alot..I'm gonna make them sign a paper...with this writtn on it. " If my sasural is bad then I will leave and that person who brings me into that marriage has to pay me 30k rupees per month for the rest of my life". They are silent since that day.

People think if a boy born all tensions in life will be gone and if a girl born they will have a burden…but imagine urself after some years… I have 2 brothers and I’m only daughter who is elder…My nani said my father wasn’t that much happy when I was born but very happy when my brothers got born…..after some years I did good in my school everyone appreciated me and I’m a doctor now and my father is very proud of me…and here my brothers who study well but lot of complaints from school for mischievous behaviour and never listen to my parents….Now, my parents wish they have 2 more daughters instead of my brothers 😂😂…. My parents share their problems and concerns with me but not my brothers because I listen and give them comfort….but they love 3 of us a lot😊

The very fact this is still a topic of discussion is shameful. There could be many things my state Kerala is behind on, but look at the female ratio and one will know how we treat at least child birth alike irrespective of gender. In fact in the South, people want their first born to be a girl child. In that sense, I feel fortunate I am born in a place where my very birth was not under threat .

I think the reason why people still want boy is because the boy stays with the family after marriage and also is one who furthers the family name. I am a only child, My parents love me to the core, Will do anything not just for my education or health (needs) but for my wishes too. But they always wish for a boy, they still want one, the reason being same. I say I won't get married, don't worry, I stay with you forever. They say, if this happens that would be sin. They even say an unmarried women is a burden on earth.(?? I don't understand). I love my religion but I can't ignore several bad things it has in it. Like the "kanyadan", basically donation of the girl to the husband.???Like that girl is a human, that is wrong. Parents when get old too need support and just giving money or visiting once in a while is not enough, they do need someone to live with them all the time. Basically old people are like adolescents, only difference being in knowledge. Some practices now need to change or else this thought process is going to continue.

Parents mentality that girl will leave them is very wrong.daughters love and care for their parents more than sons either in a role of daughter or Dil .and also religion never say being unmarried is sin for women at least not hinduism also kanyadan doesn't mean charity of women and even if it would have been that doesn't make any difference in life in every culture women need to move out that doesn't mean charity.also it's not important for anybody to stay unmarried for taking care of their old Parents.men never leave their parents for their wife so why should I Women leave her parents for any man.every person is temporary in life but parents are permanent.so amazing of you that you want to take of your parents when they will be old.now a days so many so called progressive people say their privacy will be disturbed if they will live with their old parents and parents in law.they should be ashamed.but also don't cuss on religion with half knowledge.
@vandnasharma2080
@vandnasharma2080 Жыл бұрын
@@varsha6094 I am not cussing, I am saying what is happening. Also, kanyadan is exactly what I mentioned. It's giving of the daughter from father to husband. It's told to be the biggest "punya" a father does. You're right, I want to stay by my parents and I won't leave them for any men. But the reason I said that for that I have to stay unmarried because it's really rare for a man to accept this that their wife is not ready leave her parents and either wants both parents to leave together or ask the husband to come if he have many siblings. Plus, I am saying just what I am told. I was told that a women left unmarried is not ryt. My mother told me this, "agar ladki ki shaadi nhi hoti toh woh bojh ho jati hain, or uske baap ko paap lagta hain". And it's just not my mother, everyone where I live, belive in this and tell this is ryt. I am just saying that such thinking and practices should be stopped. I am not against my own religion. I love praying and worshipping to my Krishna. But certain things needs to changed. Nothing is perfect and same applies to hinduism. We need to change those things that are wrong. Also, kanyadan being charity does makes a difference. It's not moving out. It's donation of the daughter. They are basically taking away the rights for her from herself saying that, "abb yeh aapki amanat hain". She is not a object. It might be just a practice that was not initially in hinduism, but developed with patriarchy. But, it should be stopped. Infact, in some places, there is also a practice in which the father or brother of the bride washes the groom feet. It happens in my place too and I hate it. Such culture should not be practiced. But I am happy, that their are people who share my opinions. I thought I was the only girl who wished stick by her parents, because the ones I talked with about this, either said the same thing you mentioned that it will hinder their privacy or were actually having no problem with leaving, like they were infact excited for so. I have no hate against them, they have their own opinions but still how can one imagine for leaving their parents especially when they turn old.

@@vandnasharma2080 Hinduism is way of living not any religion where nothing can be changed.krishna says In geeta i am giving you best knowledge but human consciousness is greater than anything.it depends on how people take traditions.like sindoor some say It shows you are property of someone where ayurveda says it increases sexual drive of women which is good thing after marriage.what you said about parents and society is true it's reality of my life too but i always say them did Durga, sati, parvathi take permission from anyone before doing anything neither should i.the only one thing make me strong everyday in this cruel world is my devotion towards Durga maa.and i too hate some traditions like paw pujai(washing feet of groom) and wife touching feet of husband.if you see goddess Kali pic lord Shiva under her feet you can guess hinduism doesn't support Idea of women under feet of man .by the way it was nice to talking intellectual Person like you
