That very thing happened to my sons deer years ago. He shot a big 10 point and we got it to the taxidermist and paid a 200 deposit. Then, 12 months later we asked for an update and he wouldn't return calls. Then he moved. Luckily another acquaintance who is a taxidermist told me what town he was in and his address. he let me know that he still had lots of customer racks and frozen capes but felt bad and wasn't calling customers because he couldn't mount the deer due to health issues and couldn't afford to give people their money back. We went there unannounced and were able to get my sons rack back, but the cape was destroyed. I was out 700 bucks total to get my sons deer mounted (200 lost and another 500 to get it completed YEARS later with a replacement cape). He also had my wife's first bobcat cape which was completely destroyed. We lost another 200 on that deposit, and no mount to be had for that. Very sad, but at least we got my boys deer back in the end.

I hate to hear that! At least y’all got that rack back. Some folks don’t need to go into business for themselves

Hey daniel where are you located and how can I get in touch with you about possibly doing 3 mounts for me?

I have pretty much watched all of your videos. You do good at explaining steps. However, unless I have missed it somewhere. I have wondered about it tho. I know you use tags on the antlers. Book matches tag numbers etc. Do you mark the capes somehow that are in the freezer waiting to be mounted? In order to match it back to the antlers/customer. If so what process do you use?

I bag and capes and tag them when they go in the freezer. When I flesh them, I make tags out of cut pieces of milk jugs and a sharpie to write the cape number on the tags then zip tie them to each cape before salting
I go into detail about exactly what to do in this video

Man how do you only use mears forms? I’d like to but they don’t always have measurements I need. Do you cut them up an make them the size you need?
@thecedarridgechroniclesАй бұрын
I use several McKenzie if I need a pose that Mears don’t have, but in all honesty, all I use is the “B” measurement. I stretch the head and face by hand just like I do the neck, so no matter the size face, the cape has slack to shrink and adapt
