The U.S. has emerged as a vital strategic partner of Ukraine since Russia's full-scale invasion nearly a year ago. Aid provided by the U.S., ranging from weapons supply to assistance to help keep the Ukrainian economy afloat, plays a pivotal role. The pre-New Year visit of president Zelenskiy to Washington and his address to Congress underscored the character of the relationship.
But questions remain for the future. Are the American public and political class really ready for long-term, ironclad support of Ukraine? Is there a real threat emanating from the isolationist wing of the Republican party? Can Kyiv and Washington synchronize their visions of the war's preferred end result? Can a certain level of chemistry and trust be maintained between Ukrainian and American leaderships? And finally, what is the role of the U.S. in the post-war recovery of Ukraine and in efforts to sustain Ukraine's security in the future?
Presenter:
