As a nurse, I can say this is a very good explanation for patients. With any chronic disease, patient education plays a critical role in maintaining optimal health. If you can get a patient to feel like they have a degree of control over their medical condition you have done a great service for them.

I would love to get myself to the point where I can work out but I'll settle for getting to the point of being able to walk for more than 10 minutes. I brought my a1c from 12.1 down to a consistent 6.4 without using any diabetes meds. I was started on them but through google university I researched my butt off and found I was not willing to deal with the negative effects of metformin and I had an allergic reaction to the stronger med they gave me. I achieved this through diet by adopting the Keto way of eating and I dont follow it strictly but follow it pretty strongly.

Congrats! Same here. Just received new A1c today at 3 month keto mark. Down from 11.5 to 6.1 in 3 months. No meds, though Trulicity was prescribed. I did not take it. Metformin increases liver enzymes - cannot take it. Tried Metformin earlier in life (30 years ago) for different condition. Had to go off it very quickly - doc was talking liver transplant!!! It must have been bad but has not recurred since then. Liver enzymes always normal. An earlier doctor started me on Januvia once. It gave me a headache the next day that did not cease until 2 days after discontinuing it. Only took it 3 days. Worst 5 days of my life. Never had a headache in my entire left before or after that. Never again! I think Januvia has been removed from market due to side effects. So I try to find non-drug solutions where available. Keto works. And reading the info sheet in the Trulicity package, it messes with every organ in the body that the diabetes hasn't already messed up. No way! Still my doc sings its praises and wants me to take it for weight loss even though not needed for diabetes any longer. Will not do it.

Aitrogenesis (clinician induced) It kills more people a year than their diseases do according to queens hospital London surgeon general. So glad you used intellect and got the information available to reverse your diabetes T2 as your HCAB1 is below seven nicely... So your not diabetic any longer and you kept your liver. All with diet.. Well done man, most are lead astray by the white jacket and credentials, yet doctors usually never reverse a single case of diabetes in their entire career. So your clearly well smart to get rid of diabetes T2 so quickly. Thanks for sharing, your a shining beacon to others. Your family appriciated you keeping your liver and being healthy and alive I bet.... That's probably partly why you did it. Good man good of you.

I ignored him because it was hovering there for years without change. Then it suddenly jumped to 10.1 and I was put on insulin and metformin. I guess that was the wake up call I needed to kick my butt into action. I went on a ketogenic diet and started walking at least a half hour a day, usually closer to an hour a day, and I've been doing some light weight training.. I also have dropped 50 lbs. Had blood pressure readings of 220/115 and sugar level of 390. Obviously I was diagnosed with diabetes with an initial A1C of 12.6. Doctor put me on 500 mg metformin 2X a day, Rebelsus once in the morning and 30mg Pioglitazone once a day. In addition I did the following: a tbsp of Extra virgin olive oil EVERY morning (for 3 months), a glass of apple cider vinegar with water b4 every dinner (for the last 5 weeks b4 next A1C test), and 1 clove of garlic b4 bedtime (about 2 months b4 next test). Once again my initial A1C was 12.6 I just received my A1C result today (August 1) and it was down to 5.6-inside NORMAL levels. Thank you for your advice. People, it took me 3 months to get my A1C back to normal..Take these steps and it can happen to you too. Also, I consumed ZERO sugar during this entire time. Had Salmon twice a week, started eating scallops once a week and many chicken dishes with SUGAR FREE stir fry sauce. I even indulged in an Islands hamburger once a week for lunch (wheat bun and a side salad, NO FRIES). 1 to 2 pieces of fruit a day and 3 times a week i had greek yogurt with blueberries for breakfast...Switched out to sourdought bread as well. If I could do it, anybody can. Oh yeah, in 2020 i weighed 238 lbs. On April 11, at the hospital i weighed 209...Today I am down to about 188. My AVERAGE blood sugar count on my last test was 114

It’s cost prohibitive. My suggestion for doctors, is to have some type of a print-out for the condition the patient has, with his recommendations, so that they can read it on their own time and I have that I have a Doctor In the doctor’s office.

I was diagnosed as a type 1 diabetic at age of 26. Told I 'might' see my 35th birthday. I asked my PCP how aggressively we could treat my case. I'm 79 years old and since we began checking A1c several years ago, they have been between 6.o% and 6.6%. I have occasional low glucose readings once or twice a month. Overall, I believe I'm alive today because of having 6 meals a day with testing before each meal. I’ve discovered that metabolism changes throughout the day. I count carbs for each meal and calculate my Lispro dosage based on Carbs with a variable metabolism factor. I keep written records extensively, and am using a Dexcom G6 CGM. I also take 18 units of Lantis every 12 hours. Sort of like piloting a Jumbo Jet through a hurricane manually without instruments. However, taking the leadership of my medical team was, and is what has kept me going all this tme. When my time comes, I expect to die of old age. 😎

My A1C had always been 6.0 or 6.1. I took 2 capsules of cinnamon in the morning and another two at night. Since that much cinnamon can damage the liver, I took the same dosage of milk thistle. Since our livers are assaulted by all kind of toxins, such as air pollution and many other things, everyone should take milk thistle. Anyway, I had a scheduled blood test 3 weeks later. It was 5.4. I reduced the dosages of both by half. Every test since then has remained around 5.2.

I have b 12 deficiency(pernicious anemia) and was never told by dr. that this would interfere with my A1C lab test. I live in Canada so the measurement is different. My highest a1c was 6.1 now it is 5.5 been on keto, no sugar, no unhealthy fats and no grains lots of vegies berries 3x per week and medium fat and protein. lost 50 lbs feel great A1C down, Triglycerides low. Thank you for telling us about how B12 deficieny can alter testing. I feel great. I didn't want to become diabetic hence the keto diet.

@ Karin Valeri , so your HbAIC is now 5.5%. Is your anemic now under control? Sound like you are doing well. New diabetic of two years with HBA1c now 5.7% , yeah you do want to be active to prevent being become diabetic . Keep up you good work.

I've been diabetic for 13 years now. I had an A1C done in May and my A1C was 11.1 which is the worst I've ever had since I was first diagnosed. I got back on keto, started intensely exercising, and started intermittent fasting again and when it was checked in August I had brought it down to 7.5 which is a pretty huge improvement. I also lost 25 lbs. in that time frame. I imagine it would have been even better if my liver would cooperate. I could bring my sugar down to somewhere between 90-110 after exercising at night and in the morning it could be 200 or higher just from my liver making glucose. I'm not sure there is much I can do about that, my liver does what it wants to do. My bloodwork also suggests that I'm anemic since my iron is always low even though I take an iron supplement.

Hi Dr., my brother recently passed away at 61 from sepsis due to toe wounds. He had an AKA amputation in March. He had liver failure, kidney failure and a CABG. He claimed his A1c was 4 to 5. I used to argue with him that he could have had high levels since A1c is an average. I wish I had seen this video and your service years ago. Thank you for helping those with this insidious disease. I am wondering if it’s possible to have good control and still have complications? He didn’t know he had DM until a wound on his foot wouldn’t heal. Much gratitude

Oh my goodness! All these years of my having Diabetes, and I never knew this information about A1c and how to calculate it. It made me look up the formula so I can figure it out myself and next time I go to my doctor I’m going to ask for an order for the continuous monitoring. You have actually changed the way I look at being diabetic and has made me excited about taking care and taking charge! Thank you so much for your (channelle?)!

I am 73 yrs old. I was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes. My first doctor had my A1C blood work done Non-Fasting. The results were 5.9. My doctor moved to Boston. The Medical Center switched me to a PA. She had my T2B blood work testing as Fasting. The results were 7.9. Should I be concerned? Thank you for your time!!

Have been watching your videos voraciously and they have really helped my understanding of my Type 2. I had a diagnosis about 20 years ago when my A1C was around 7. I’m 6’4” and weighed 210. I immediately lost 10 lbs and dropped my A1C to 5..7 . Over the last 10 years my A1C has averaged around 5, but my blood sugar when taken is rarely below 120. About 4 years ago, my endocrinologist prescribed Farciga on top of my Kombiglyze. I immediately dropped another 13 lbs. and now average around 174 lbs. My doc has been unable to understand how my A1C remains so low, but my blood sugar remains relatively high. They did hook me up to Libre for 2 weeks, but the results were inconclusive. They also ran a frucostamine as well, but that yielded no conclusions as well. I have neuropathy in my feet and very frequent urination, so I do have the symptoms of Type 2. Northern European ancestry, so no sickle cell in background. My doc remains stumped, but as my A1C is so reliably low, he seems unconcerned. I try to eat healthy, but I pretty much eat what I want, although in moderation, but I continue to lose weight. Two of my brothers and my father (96 years old), have type 2, but my brothers were both overweight. Any thoughts as I remain concerned. Again, thank you very much for your KZbin channel!

Only recently discovered you channel. Your presentations are outstanding. Been T.1.D for over 25 years and am now 64. In the early years 5,7 to 6,5 were fairly normal. Now at 64 it's a bit wild. The Dexcom G6 has been a fantastic game changer especially in the night. Didn't know how low I was getting. I find discipline is the biggest thing that let's me down. I know the rules, but frequently break them. That's when yo-yo hell starts. I know when I have got control I only have my self to blame. Dispite 25 years, I am still learning lots from your channel.
