Nvidia 570 drivers are INSANE! DLSS 4 and Multi Screen G-Sync (VRR) run on Linux!

FYI I just got some information from NVIDIA that the legacy changes are only for CUDA. The Driver will be still maintained for a while. This means Pascal, Maxwell and co still will get updates.

I reallt hope they fix Low Framerate Compensation for VRR, as on some lower-end monitors that don't compensate for it themselves, hitting the lower bound of VRR (40-45Hz in my case) causes the signal to blank out, only on Linux.

@@XeZrunner Happens on Windows too, I found a program that let me adjust minimal Hz of the VRR and i set it to 58. That seemed to fix the issue. Program is Custom Resolution Utility (CRU)

@XeZrunner You just tighten range a little bit from usual default let's say 40 - 144 to 48 - 144. 58 - 144. Whatever works for you. Plus the way it adjusts works perfectly fine on doubles etc. Let's say you get 20 frames so the default would be 40hz, but next would be 80hz. So in reality tightening vrr the way I mentioned wouldn't change anything.

Even though I'm running an AMD GPU, I'm happy to see Nvidia driver support improving for Linux. It will foster an environment where more people will make the switch, especially with the looming end-of-life date of Windows 10. If you're in that boat, come on over - the water's fine. Linux is in a seriously solid spot right now.

I agree. The difficult thing is keeping up with the variations compared to the monolith of windows. For example, what’s GSP firmware? What is Wayland? I have an RTX 3080 on AM4 CPU/mobo and am running PopOS… do I need to reformat and switch distros to ensure I get access to this driver?

You don't need to update to this new Nvidia driver to test DLSS 4 in Cyberpunk FYI. CDPR pushed DLSS4 indepedently in their 2.21 update.

You can also copy the DLSS dll files to put DLSS4 in any game but you have to force the J preset in NVIDIA Profile Inspector to use the transformer model.

Thanks for the info. However I had some issue with certain option on linux (DLSS 4 Transformer + FG will result in black screen after restart of the game). Installing the leaked 570 beta drivers fixed those.

@@A1RM4X It's the FG apparently. I don't use FG and with 565.77 I also get the amazing performance/quality improvements of DLSS 4 without crashing. FG, however, crashes without the newest Proton bleeding edge. But in any case, looking forward to 570 and beyond due to VRR and the other obvious benefits. :)

I have a 4080 Super and DLSS4 works there as well. The 5000 series while being more powerful does draw more power to the point where it is no more efficient than the 4000 series. Actual the 4080 Super is the best blend of raw power to power efficiency. Everything just works as intended now. Again Nvidia just get your open module ready for upstreaming will you.

To update DLSS in a game, is just one dll file away and the Nvidia app on Windows will let us override the internal game's DLSS in order to update it to version 4. I hope it works on Linux too, perhaps manually. I don't feel that optimist, I know that DLSS 4 has something more under the hood, but who knows...

Have you had a chance to test stability with gamescope or the WineWayland driver? There's a bug with a vulkan extension that causes the displaying window to freeze while a game continues to run. Its the one thing that keeps me booting into windows for HDR.

I’m not surprised Nvidia is giving first class Linux support now. 1. They want that AI Crypto money, 2. They want that SteamOS market share, yes imagine a 5090 steam machine. 3. They want goodwill with the Linux community. The 570 driver will make the open module the only module, which makes me think why don’t they just upstream the driver module, since it’s open and allow people to swap between the nvk and Nvidia utils stack. I would love a future where we have nvk by default and only need the proprietary stuff for OpenCL/CUDA. That is where Nvidia really wants the competitive advantage, since gamers are just downstream consumers to their business partners anyways.

its why cachyos folks are working with nvidia now....as valve did with amd...cachyos also do better work to get FG before value been clueless how to get it work until cachyos devs with nvidia help they pin point what windows library part that uses opticalflow function , once they got the part working, IT WILL OPEN A LOT OF DOORS TO LINUX SIDE due to drivers using same code as windows for everything it do...its why i prefer forked version of proton from cachyos devs than valve devs is taking forever for one thing when cachyos is not only getting opticalflow, they getting other stuff for nvidia users from windows side uses on linux applications

I hope they fix the drivers, right now I have to install Windows 10 in order to play Final fantasy rebirth, all because I have a NVIDIA card. This makes me so mad. A bug in the NVIDIA driver on the Linux side. Knowing NVIDIA they wont fix anything and I will never play Final fantasy on Linux unless I sell my NVIDIA card (4070S) and buy an AMD card, but if i buy an AMD card i cant do anything with reason in Blender, again Linux falls. I want a Linux PC where I can do Ray tracing and play all games. So for the time being I will have to do something nasty and install viruspywear 10 64bit on a spare had drive. I will only love the drivers if and when I can play Final fantasy 7 on Linux PC.

Have you actually tested games and apps under Linux? I doubt so.. Or - you wouldn't be recommending Linux for gamers. For a weeks I've been trying to locate the reason of my problems - why rendering inside my web browser is being killed by Wayland and Linux (which was looking like a crash). OR - why my games in which I use a lot of graphic mods - are getting killed or are crashing. Through extensive testing and using tools like nvidia-smi - I've been finally able to pinpoint the exact issue. Whatever the app that is using GPU under Linux is (game, web browser, CUDA app, etc) - it will crash/get killed or/and will be unable to start if the whole VRAM is already taken. Meaning - Linux driver has no system memory fallback option like the Windows driver has. The fact is that gamers using Linux don't realize that, most likely, like half of all their problems with gaming, etc. come down not to the "buggy drivers" or "bugs" but the fact that THERE IS NO ACTUAL IMPLEMENTATION of the CRUCIAL FUNCTIONALITY IN THE NVIDIA DRIVER, that Nvidia has DELIBERATELY CHOSE TO SKIP. That functionality (system memory fallback, as I've mentioned) - comes down to partial swaps of data from VRAM into regular RAM (and back), when the VRAM gets filled. Under Windows - the driver will move not used data to the system RAM, under Linux - the apps will just crash if the VRAM gets overfilled, even with one byte, for whatever reason (texture mods, alt-tabbing out from the game and running some GPU app in the background like browser, gaming while streaming videos, etc) WHY the FK isn't that the main subject of rants of the youtubers like you? This is a HUGE, HUGE, MAJOR problem. NVIDIA should already be smacked for that on every possible occasion. Why there are no videos about it? Why there are no people pushing NVIDIA to actually implement absolutely crucial functionality for the stability of the driver and the whole Linux environment?

You do realize that people are still gaming on 4 GB or 8 GB GPUs? That there are gaming laptops that have less VRAM than desktop counterparts? And that one instance of Chromium under Linux alone reserves 2 GB of VRAM? Run the game with a web browser in the background under Linux and either the game or web browser will crash, while under Windows everything is going to work fine because its going to move either game data or browser data from VRAM into system RAM/swap file. How is that acceptable for you? How is that helpful for people that are gonna have problems that you don't have? If the goal is to make Linux more popular across gamers - doesn't it make sense to actually voice serious issues and criticize NVIDIA for being lazy?

When the video was released and as I speak, there is still no official 570 drivers packages / release on Linux nor Windows. I use Lossless scaling set to x20 frame gen and I get more FPS than a cracked out 5090 on any setting because im a baller and i have the best fake frames ever.
