You did a Great tutorial and demonstration of my favorite war plane, I bough it from A2A Simulation some time ago but didn't have the chance and learn to fly it. Watching your videos gave me the joy to learn on how to (but not mastered) ......BTW:.she is gorgeous, sensitive and difficult to handle, but no matter what, I am one happy camper! Thanks and congratulations. Gonzalo E

I too have loved aviation since I was young. Stationed at Moffett Field in the early 80's, I was an Aviation Electrician's Mate on the P3-C Orion, then Lockheed Modification Team for a short while after the Navy, and ended with McClellan AFB on the F111. But, never pursued any license. At 52, am I too old? LOL. However, MSFS has been my access to the skies, since it's early inception. I've always had the current MSFS edition on my computer. This is a healthy obsession, definitely easier on the checkbook than the 'real' thing. I do see that you're instrument rated in real life. You seem very humble (which is great), but still, your rating is impressive. Your real world skills are obvious, you're the perfect instructor and guide (great video producer, too!) for 'our' Flight Sim obsession. Apologies on the long reply. :) Ron

What made you choose the military version over the civilian version? That has been something I need to decide on.
@FSMaNiA9 жыл бұрын
Jon Clay Hey Jon, I wanted to produce a Memorial Day tribute video dedicated to the brave men of our armed forces who paid the ultimate sacrifice for freedom. I also wanted to fly the airplane configured as she would have been during World War II when she was so effective in her bomber escort and fighter roles. There are some navigation tools using VOR's and NDB's available in 2D menus for the military version. I haven't looked close at the civilian version, however, I think it has more updated gauges and avionics. Hope that helps. Cheers! Tim G., FS MaNiA

What a pleasant surprise! The Mustang is one of my favorite warbirds. The Corsair would be another one. If A2A did that, I might have to pick it up. Seems like there's more of a forward view than, say, in the Cub. Not sure if that's because of a higher nose up attitude or the fact that it's flown in the rear seat. Ground ops seems a little easier than in the Cub in that regard. Over to part 2!
@FSMaNiA9 жыл бұрын
Love the Mustang but would really love an FU4 Corsair. The Corsair also has forward visibility issues on landing which really made it challenging for carrier ops. Working on more video of the Mustang just because I'm having a blast flying her!! Cheers, Tim G., FS MaNiA

Beautiful as always FSMania! Wow you survived hypoxia! I cannot imagine how terrifying that must have been once you realized what was going on. I've never had it happen to me, but that is enough to remind me if ever up that high to keep oxygen flowing. (The chances of me going airborne in the near future are slim though, unless we are talking virtually). Keep up the awesome work, will be looking for part 2. A2A makes some amazing planes. I have the old aircraft factory corsair myself, and i believe their P-40.

belgeode thank much belgeode! Just to be clear, I was referring to a previous virtual flight in the A2A P-51 Mustang. I was flying formation with another P-51 I flew on a previous flight using "Advanced Play" with FS Recorder. The A2A Accu-Sim P51 version simulates the effects of hypoxia if you forget to done your mask. Real world I haven't had the misfortune of hypoxia from high altitude flights. Thank you for your comments! Kindest Regards, Tim G., FS MaNiA

I know you posted this a while ago but if you still fly this aircraft, according to the 1943 official p51 manual, you have the mags ON when you start, the oil movement is caused by mechanics spinning the prop by hand 12 blades. This means your checklist is actually spin prop 12 blades by hand, flaps up, trim set, bat and gen on, fuel on, booster on, mags on, prime, start. Secondly, you are supposed to idle the engine at prop full forward 12-1300 rpm, then 1000rpm when the oil temp is 40 or above. Those are wartime settings though, designed to speed up warm-up, so probably a little less than that but definitely wait for above 40 for oil temp to fly. Lastly, the tail wheel on the aircraft is actually not free moving. It is steerable with the rudder to 6 degrees left to right or if you push the stick forward it will disconnect and swivel, allowing pivot turns.
@johnnyappleseed57538 жыл бұрын
Oh, and, make sure to test the supercharger high position on your run up. Which is done at 2300, not 2000. You flew it great though!
@FSMaNiA8 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the clarifications Drive Shares. I think using the starter to turn the prop with the mags off is an A2A compromise to avoid the need to model a line crew. I understand the stick forward unlocking the tail wheel allowing it to castor and using differential braking for steering. I have flown modern aircraft with castoring nose wheels that had to be steered by differential braking (works well until you lose brake fluid in one of your brakes..yep that happened). At any rate, the A2A version of the P-51 is one of the hardest aircraft I've attempted to fly in FSX. It was as difficult to learn to taxi as it was to fly. I still haven't mastered the ol' girl, but I sure enjoyed the training! Thanks again and cheers from Tim G., FS MaNiA
@johnnyappleseed57538 жыл бұрын
FS MaNiA well, thanks for the reply! Yeah, I know they didn't model line crew... but they did on their newest, T6 Texan trainer. I wish they would go back and update the 51, but it's not really necessary :)

Hi FS MaNiA! Thank you for sharing these 2 beautiful vids. I bought this addon yesterday(I'm used to the DCS P-51 and I love it). I' m really impressed by the work done on these birds by A2A(I have also the "Big ass bird")! I have one question for you: what scenery do you use, it's pretty awesome! Cheers

Pat myZisfantastic Hey Pat, Thanks much! I am pretty much obsessed with the P-51. I just uploaded a P-51 training video concentrating on takeoffs, landings, and pattern work. I have become a huge fan of A2A Simulations. I'm sure I will be adding more of their aircraft to my fleet. Most of my scenery is Orbx. I use Orbx FTX Global, Vector, Regional, and Airport Sceneries. I have a pretty massive inventory of other developer's scenery including FS Dream Team, Fly Tampa, and Aerosoft, but I tend to favor Orbx. Thanks again, Tim G., FS MaNiA

@FSMaNiA9 жыл бұрын
Rodney Buckland Hello again Rodney! I fly a lot of aircraft with a lot of wiz bang technology that allows me to navigate with remarkable precision. I was working on the A2A P-51 series just before Memorial Day, and I really wanted to fly the vintage P-51D equipped similar to WWII era P51's. When I learned to fly in the late 1970's, I had to use dead-reckoning, pilotage, NDB's, and VOR's for navigation. We had Loran and RNAV but only in more advanced aircraft. No GPS until later. I still like to fly using the old school methods on occasion to keep those skills honed.... you never know when you might need them. I have had GPS fail on an instrument flight. Fortunately I was backing up the flight with VOR navigation along the airway. No problem. Long answer to a short question. Thanks so much for your comment and question. Cheers, Tim G., FS MaNiA

FS MaNiA, I have the military version of the A2A P-51D and I love it. The only thing I'm trying to figure out is that whenever I engage the starter, the mixture moves by itself; which is fine because it starts up, but I would like to move the mixture myself. Any ideas why? I don't have the Accu-Sim with it, thats the only thing I can think of.
@FSMaNiA9 жыл бұрын
Check to be sure "auto mixture" isn't checked under FSX realism settings. If that doesn't do it then you can check the A2A forum for similar issue Hope that helps. Cheers. Tim G., FS MaNiA
@JacobEvansAviation9 жыл бұрын
It isn't checked, that was the first thing I looked at. It isn't a major issue though. Appreciate the response :)
@FSMaNiA9 жыл бұрын
Hi Jacob, I'm a little stumped on this issue. "Shift 3" brings up dialogue box for setting "cold & dark", "auto-start", "auto cold & dark", etc. I don't see anything related strictly to the mixture. I will say the mixture in the P-51 is designed to be automatically adjusted to remove some workload from the pilot. You should only have to move it from cut-off to the first detent for normal operation. Then there is an emergency detent setting to override the auto mode. I would recommend you check in the A2A P-51 forums. They have a very good support system at A2A. Please let me know what you find out as I am curious what would cause the mixture to engage other than auto start? For what it's worth, almost every plane I fly, I cruise the support forums to get a better understanding of the finer points of the model and aircraft systems, glitches, bugs, and work arounds. It saves a lot of frustration and allows me to learn from others who have gone before me. Hope this helps. As always, thanks for your comments and suggestions. Kindest regards, Tim G., FS MaNiA

For some reason I can't get the tailwheel to move I keep pushing the stick forward and it won't move and I can't get it when you can stick is pulled back do you have any tips I can use
@FSMaNiA9 жыл бұрын
+96 Alpha Hi there 96, I can't say I ever noticed the tail wheel movement/animation was actually modeled? I do know the P-51 is a very difficult plane to taxi, take-off, and land. In fact, I think it is the single hardest FSX plane I have ever tried to fly. I know I logged at least 40 hours just practicing taking-off and landing before recording these videos. I learned to use a combination of differential braking, stick forward, stick aft, dancing on the rudder, and praying to keep this plane on the runway/taxiway. She requires constant attention or she will go her own way to be sure. I think I got better with practice, but I can't say I completely tamed this wild lady! I would suggest browsing through the A2A forums, perhaps searching "taxi" to see what some of the other guys have to say. I recall picking up some very helpful tips over there. Good to hear from you again. Thanks for checking in. I hope this is helpful. Good luck and God speed!! Cheers from Tim G., FS MaNiA

Is Accu-sim a stand alone game or is it part of flight simulator? What do I need to download to get this running on my computer.?

Hi corruptscorpion. Accu-sim is developed by A2A to add more realism to the default flight sim. They use upgraded flight modeling and sounds to name but a few. The software is a separate purchase. You can read more about it at www.a2asimulations.com A2A is a top tier developer. I love pretty much everything they offer. Hope that helps. Kindest regards, Tim G., FS MaNiA
