The A380 was Malaysia. They have not operated A380s for some years, though they did participate in some airshows. An empty plane with few passengers will take off like a rocket, regardless of the plane.

I actually do know that parachutes can spoil the air and cause problems when doing close formation, not sure if it’s classified as wake turbulence, but I’m intrigued enough to do a bit more reading now.

The steep A380 takeoff: No self-respecting heavy-metal pilot even DREAMS of doing stunts like this unless conditions are unique: Empty (ferry?) flight, everything planned and coordinated with TWR and ATC to the most minute detail. This appeared to have been well planned and executed.

@wwt17 It was. It was at Farnborough 2012, an air display. This is one thing I find annoying about this channel, the incorrect and exaggerated descriptions. It wasn't *"too"* steep for an air display, where the intention is to show off the aircraft's capabilities. Why couldn't you have called it "A steep rotation and climb out"?

@@KuostA Depends on the airline and how long they've worked for them. Some airlines will send their long serving pilots on a bit of a tour when they retire. It's sort of like a bank giving a long serving manager a gold Rolex at retirement, but more fun.

common theme - use air. a bounce is observed, float, (landing gear position unknown) a380 under-wing is like 2 curves downwards to sweep air under. more pronounced than other planes. vectors air under the wings to sweep downwards. departing ground-effect and hit head-wind, at the same time, can result in the turn having a small radius but the pitch should be reduced immediately, compensate, to avoid losing ground-speed. turning while climbing(or descending) have such an effect unless yaw is not used (roll-bank, hit angle needed, return steering, wait for weight to sit on air, pull-push to increase-decrease turn, ... counter steer, ... )
