With the rear clam-shell in place it was time to fabricate the rear sub-frame upper brace rails. Consisting of brackets at each end and a right/left threaded adjustable strut rod, the brace will provide a complete circle of tension and compression in the sub-frame members, adding rigidity to the monocoque assembly.

You should do an X brace welded between those two braces you installed. It would make it 1 piece but it would tie the back section of the car together. With those two braces on their own, there isn't anything there to keep it from twisting a little in each way, which will sacrifice handing big time

@BuilderCreator
@BuilderCreator 4 жыл бұрын
I have looked at SCCA and NASA as well as Time attack which has divisions with fewer restrictions. Some of it is a bit hazy when building with the monocoque tub. Like a 6 point roll cage. If I embed a steel roll hoop behind the driver, can I bolt the other 4 points to the existing hoop and count it? Like I said there are few things that when you work outside the norm you just have to prove their worthiness. I am not so competitive as just wanting to have access to a good track.

Those braces look substantial and stiff, but looks like the rod ends that you have threaded in the ends of these struts have polyurethane bushings in them. This negates most of the stiffness of these struts. The overall axial stiffness of the strut is the radial stiffness of the 2 polyurethane bushings and the axial stiffness of the metal tube between them combined in series (1/Kequivalent = 2/Kbushing + 1/Ktube). The tube stiffness is much higher than the poly bushing, so the effective stiffness of the entire strut is nearly 1/2 of the radial stiffness of the poly bushing, at least until the deflection is enough to bottom out the bushing. Maybe you want that "give" between the top of the roll structure and the rear of the subframe? I would consider replacing the polyurethane rod ends with metal-to-metal rod ends, or since there is no articulation necessary you could just put in solid clevises. Have you done any FEA analysis on these structures? Anyway, kudos on the beautiful design and build, your wide range of skills and productivity is frankly amazing and I am thoroughly enjoying these videos.
@BuilderCreator

I know I'm late to the game here with my response to powder coating but any time I can powder coat I will. I've had to get kind of "creative" with my ways too. I like to use a wet coating technique where I simply mix my powder coating with distilled water (no minerals to interfere with anything), airbrush my mix onto the part, and I simply let the water evaporate away before oven baking or infrared lamping. I know that this system make seem wasteful when time is looked upon but since these are my own projects and not charging an hourly rate to a customer, I feel like the product aka powder coating saved from floating everywhere is well worth it to me. Plus, it's always good for me to be working on my airbrushing skills.....no matter how class is in session! Har...har....har....

Ok, I have a doubt. when we install those brace rails, Why do we install it on a free rotation bushing and not hard mounted to the chassis like the bottom section of the rear sub-frame? what I mean is why to give it a degree of freedom and not rigidly mounted. Thank you 👍
@BuilderCreator
@BuilderCreator 4 жыл бұрын
The bottom mounts will have urethane pads as well. Although this adds some movement in the chassis, I want some sound/ vibration dampening. (this will be a road car mostly). The upper rails will be extended to a set torque value creating a stressed member and then fixed with jamb nuts. The upper rails are needed, because the two bottom rails are to close together to spread the moment arm forces on the back corner of the tub out enough to transfer all the loads to the tub structure evenly. Don't want the bottom attachments points to become a hinge joint on some wopty-dos (waviness) in the road. Plus I want the top rails removable (out of the way) on servicing. Other than that I have doubts to. Ha!

@divyanshsrivastava7312 4 жыл бұрын
@@BuilderCreator okay, I think I understand the working now, by the way, I loved the "wopty-dos" with the translation 😂😂. Okay, So will you be mounting any shock absorbers between the rear subframe and the monocoque to dampen/ restrict the vertical motion of the rear subframe (like the subframe of a bicycle).
@BuilderCreator
@BuilderCreator 4 жыл бұрын
@@divyanshsrivastava7312 No. Just the urethane. Solid mounting is to hard, rubber is to soft. Similar to changing out all the rubber motor mounts and suspension bushings on your street car to urethane for better performance, but not quite as drastic as going to metal on metal of a pure race car were you don't care if your teeth rattle, you just want performance. Some rigidity just not super rigid. any dampening is by the shocks and springs.

Looking really good, however, your engine choice confuses me a bit. It's too long. I think you would have done better with a more compact design. Yours is too long for a mid design. It reduces cabin space and you may have problems getting the exhaust system to fit inside the car perhaps. this sounds like I'm being very critical of your choice. I*m not. I respect your choices and especially your design... Steve in Utah

Wish this car was metric, haven’t got a clue what he is talking about. 1/4-20?? Makes visualising anything almost impossible 🤦‍♂️

Sorry, trying to speak more metric, as a good chunk of the audience is outside the United states.

1/4 - 20 is .25 inch diameter with 20 threads per inch. Closest metric equivalent would be about M6x1
