I can't fathom challenging someone who is able to turn out such high quality work. Not only do I have faith, I also understand we are talking about some guy building a supercar out of cloth and glue in a barn. I am blown away buy all of this. It is very much in line with early aviation.

Note to naysayers: “The only man who never makes mistakes is the man who never does anything.” Theodore Roosevelt. As you journey through this build it is giving me insight to other cars I've admired. I keep coming back to the 914's greenhouse (while not especially pretty) is actually pretty solid. Keep Daring Greatly!

35 k subscribed, this is a brilliant channel with a humble, yet very skilled builder. Yes there will be things that need to be “tweaked” and adjusted, but to enter into a project of this magnitude without calculated decision would be madness..... and this guy isn’t mad, he is more than qualified to make informed decisions and humble enough to share his findings and improvements. Share this channel and support him in what ever way you can, a thumb,s up costs you nothing, so let’s all smash the like button and give this guy the support he deserves. Great videos, awesome videography... don’t stop sharing mate, 35,0000 plus people love what you are doing ! 🇦🇺👍👍👍👍👍

Gene Roddenberry told the story of how the architects of a Hospital visited the set of StarTrek to find out how the doors to the Enterprise bridge opened promptly on the approach of the crew. They wanted to replicate such swift action for emergency room access. Roddenberry took them behind the set and showed them the handles that stage hands would pull to open the doors .

I've scared business partners when I said I wanted things to break and go wrong. That is the fastest way to bring a mature product or service to the market against companies/competitors with years of experience. It's naive to consider that you are not going to make mistakes or find out the way you apply an idea isn't quite right. I am still here and they are gone.... Keep up the good work, loving how you are thinking through everything!
@BuilderCreator
@BuilderCreator 4 жыл бұрын
For sure. The only way to build something new without breaking it or making mistakes is to have broken so many things in your past that you can rightly predict projected results, but usually about then you are old and die. Ha!

@@alibutt5269 the engine is the same whether it is for front, mid or rear mount. The difference is in the transmission... the normal rear wheel drive transmission it mounts onto has a single driveshaft out the back going to the rear differential. In his case, he has the engine and transmission reversed 180°, with the transmission in front of the engine, and a transfer case, which splits the drive to the front and rear differentials. The more common way for rear wheel drive mid engine vehicles is to use a transaxle, which incorporates the differential into the same casing as the transmission. The transmission on most front wheel drive cars is a form of transaxle.

Another thought; I built two Fiberfab Aztec 7's which had gull wing doors very similar to your doors. The doors ran conduit around the door perimeters under layers of fiberglass. Then only regular door assist cylinders were needed. The body had the rain grooves and press-on weatherstripping finished it up. The latches were trunk latches, some guys even used the Cadillac electric pull-down latches with manual releases in case of dead batteries. Perhaps your son can find photos of my IROC V8 powered, full framed, transverse rear mid-engined Aztec 7 via a V8 Archie Fiero transaxle kit somewhere in "the cloud"? It was in the 2010-ish era. Best of luck with your build sir!

I cannot imagine the hubris someone would have to have to criticize you. This undertaking is mind-boggling. Just the effort alone even if every single part of the car fails is still impressive. It isn't like you are demanding others drive it, or denigrating people for not doing what you do. You are undertaking an insanely difficult project and documenting it and putting it up on youtube for us to watch for free. The small amount you must make from youtube can not even begin to compensate you for the effort of the video production. Hopefully, this channel continues to grow and you are rewarded for your efforts beyond the satisfaction of a job well done.

Howdy, mechanical engineer here, watching from Canada. I used to build prototype trucks for an electric vehicle company for a while, and you're doing an excellent job. The only thing that has caught my eye for improvement enough that would warrant a message, is the door mechanism. A properly sprung door (torsion bar, gas strut etc) should require very little force to open and close it - especially with your lightweight construction. Consider mounting the door, weighing the door to its estimated weight (including glass etc), springing the door so that it is neutrally balanced, and then select a very small, lightweight actuator to match with your lightweight ethos you already have going.
@BuilderCreator
@BuilderCreator 4 жыл бұрын
should require very little force to open and close it - How about when a gust of 50mph wind hits it? detents, stops, latches? This solves all of them and I have the room. Ebay actuators were cheap, this will be fun trying something different. Thanks for your input.

Binge watched the whole series. Loving it so far. Remember that you'll always get some level of unfounded criticism on youtube, so don't take them too seriously. The consistent >99% likes is way higher than vast majority of even well loved YTers, that should speak for itself, not the one off person.

Loving the channel man! I have built a few doors that lift and believe when I say 'Weight Matters'. Please toy with the idea of mounting the Kinetrol devices to the chassis and use spherical rod linkages to push the hinges up instead. You can dial in the height and leverage way easier.

I worked in a machine shop in fleet, Hampshire when I left collage that made those actuators. We used them in the machining fixtures for work holding because they are quick and unbelievably powerful. I tried to hold one that was about 4” across still with a spanner once, I failed....They’re used on a lot of bus doors hence the air release sound when the doors open or close. They’re said to have been the only thing still working after a huge fire at a Hemel Hempstead oil refinery. It was a pretty weird place that factory. It had a silence at lunch rule in the canteen. And there were a few old boys who completely ignored the ban on smoking in a workplace without trying to hide it or even make any excuses. They just carried on working with a roll up hanging out their mouth.

Very interesting. Are these actuators found on other cars or was this your idea? I know I have seen those gas struts on other doors that open upwards, and I think the DeLorean has some kind of torsion bar if I remember right.

The Nova/Sterling and other names Kit-car had an option for automatic door opening. Just 1 "door", front and side windows and roof was the door. I don't know how it was made though.

Jay - New to the channel, but as an engineer I have to say I am very impressed by your work. Instead of the Kinetrol 90 actuators, any thought given to using either electrical or pneumatic linear actuators? I believe there will be a significant weight savings over the Kinetrol units. Also want to say that your inspiration to a new generation of engineers and makers is something to be highly applauded and sincere thanks to see someone paying it forward.

Welcome to the channel Ron! I've debated the door actuators quite a bit. Truly reliable electrical actuators are very expensive and the pneumatic linears would indeed be lighter, but the rotary pneumatic are different (a fun new challenge) and really solve some problems for me. Inspiring young engineers- This is the main reason for building this project- lets be realistic, I need a car like this like a hole in my head, but I love them and others love them. Schools are teaching engineering, but not vision and possibilities. Seems my biggest audience of "aha!" moment engineers is India. I think the entrepreneurial spirit is growing there. Thanks for supporting the effort with your watch time.
