The A7RV I think is such an underrated hybrid camera. It’s my go to for all professional and can’t miss moments.

The rolling shutter performance in the A7RV at 4K 24p (18.6ms) and 4K60 (15.0ms) is actually much better than that of the A7IV (26.8ms at 25p), though this often goes unmentioned or overlooked. It's specifically the 8K and Super 35 crop modes where things get worse. Of course, nothing can match the global shutter performance of the A9 III, but that's beside the point.

I held back from the A9III simply because my line of work didn't fit these criteria however, I am curious to try it for outdoor flash capabilities in extremely bright situations. Do I need it? No. My gut feeling is telling me to wait for the A9IV with an improved base ISO and a bump in the megapixel image.

I has been using Sony camera since A850. I got myself A7r mk1 at 2015 and another 2nd hand body after I am into time lapse. I brought another 2nd hand a7r mk2 as first A7r dies off. I got myself a brand new A7r mk3a but if I am not going to get mk4 or mk5 due to I am more into time lapse as 42MP already killing my storage. I also did have a 2nd hand a6k and a 200-600mm lens. Therefore, the next body would be a9mk3 if I am into it, even a1 mk2, I wouldn't need another high MP camera. Noise not an issue for me as there are noise reduction software, I need the speed! :D

As a long time wedding photographer I can say that the A7RV is by far, the best stills camera I have ever used. Size, weight, choice of lenses, that tilt screen, the DR, the resolution/detail/ability to punch in hard. Nothing else out there exists for my needs at this time that can beat this combo. I get the occasional lock up and have to drop the battery out, about 1 in 1000 frames shot, but that is my sole criticism and is possibly just an issue with my specific unit.

correct. I talked to the Sony techs while I was at Kando about it actually. They said that the internal processor puts such an emphasis on all of the AF/subject tracking/etc that the CPU/GPU/whatever maxes out to there, leaving not enough processing to fully max out the screen resolution, which is obviously a bummer. As a seasoned wedding photographer, I found the A7RV a real challenge, originally coming from a Canon R5. I ultimately ended up swapping back to the Canon. The worst thing was the rolling shutter performance. I love to shoot silent for ceremony + reception as much as possible, and found the rolling shutter pretty shocking. I did also struggle a bit with the AF, which seemed less intuitive than I was used to on the Canon, even if it was arguably just as good (but I wouldn't say better). The other major issue - file sizes. Cards were filled at alarming rates and I ended up with over 500GB per wedding. Lightroom struggled with the huge galleries too. Low light performance was also average (not unexpected for a 60MP sensor). I found the Canon was the better of the two when pushed to 3200 and above, which was disappointing surprise. On the upsides, I was fairly happy with the files, colours were OK, and the biggest plus was how well it paired with the absolutely brilliant Sony compact primes, the 24 2.8 and 40 2.5 - sharp, punchy and just wonderful in rendering everything for such compact lenses. The ability to crop from 60mp is also amazing, but something I also benefited from with the only slightly smaller 45mp in the Canon. In hindsight, I should have opted for the a9 series, even if it doesn't have the same crop flexibility. Faster, better in low light, no rolling shutter issues, and non-stupid file sizes. With respect, I cannot see how the A7RV can be recommended to wedding photographers.
@benjhaisch3 ай бұрын
Sure if you’re going to shoot silent, but the shutter on these things is so much quieter than the DSLRs that everyone was using even 3 years ago. I’d assume the AF issue was more on getting used to the system than anything. Curious what file type you were using and how many files ended up at 500GB. That’s significantly more than my catalogs have been, LR has no issues though as I edit from smart previews regardless of the camera. I guess it’s different priorities in a camera though, because the A7RV is totally my recommendation to most people between the two.
@olly1oo63 ай бұрын
@@benjhaisch Fair point. And you're right it is vastly better than what DSLR shutters have been in the past. I think I just got so used to silent on the Canon that I didn't really want to switch back. The R5 isn't without rolling shutter artifacts, but the scan speed is fast enough that it's not an issue 99% of the time, which I tended to rely on. I ended up swapping down to the 36mp compressed RAWs to reduce file sizes, which helped, but they still ended ups larger than the 45s I was used to. I loved the Sony primes so much I am still in mind to eventually make the switch, but I think I'd be leaning to the a9iii's after the experience with the RV.
