Dear Calvin have enjoyed your channel for many years and consider you the go to expert with anything to do with Bond I have just finished watching The Netflix Series the Gentleman and I was very impressed with the performance of Theo James . I feel he has all the right attributes to be the next Bond he has the right look right age 39 and voice also he has that upper-class demeanour as well as being able to dish out the rough stuff . Most importantly he looks very cool especially in a tense situation all of those attributes were on display in the Gentleman. I know he is an actor of some experience but have not watched him in anything else but Bond definitely came to mind while watching him in the Gentleman. I wondered what your thought were Calvin or any of your loyal followers out there is he even talked about for the role ? I have not heard anything here in Australia loved to know yours most sincerely Carl .

As for Aaron Taylor-Johnson himself, I think he'd be a really solid choice for Bond. But as you say, until there's a script and director attached to 'Bond 26', I can't imagine Barbara and Michael will announce anything, without having a press conference with the film title reveal , writers, director and a Bond himself.

I can't see any actor would tie themselves up with a project that doesn't have shooting dates let alone a script. Actors have to plan because of other job offers. They'd have to be very successful, actually developing the Bond film themselves or committed to Bond at the risk of their popularity and visibility to take so much time off.

Henry is too old at this point. He’s now in his 40s and with how long these films take to make compared to previous decades, he’d have 2-3 films if he was lucky
@sandersson2813
@sandersson2813 7 ай бұрын
It's not what someone at 40 looks like now, it's what they look like in 10 years when they're on their third Bond film. Films aren't being made at the Connery or Moore rate anymore, so Cavill might age terribly. Personally I'd rather they choose a different actor as I'm not sure Johnson looks the part, but happy to be proven wrong if he scubs up well.
@jamesatkinsonja
@jamesatkinsonja 7 ай бұрын
@@rossmccay The advantage of going younger is that if delays occur it's not aging the actor out ['The Batman part 2' has been delayed until 2026 recently but as Robert Pattinson is 37 it will be okay] and there usually a lot cheaper [allegedly Cavill got $10 million for his extended cameo in Argylle so his 'full film' quote must be pretty high] when the first Bond with a new actor traditionally watching the budget. I know people say they'd change strategy [like suggesting filming 'back to back'] to accommodate him but I just don't see that happening [Argylle not doing well did him few favours].
@Tuelis97
@Tuelis97 7 ай бұрын
@@rossmccaythis is true, but all of those actors had films that came out every 2 years or so - the gap between Bond films is now around 4/5 years (likely a symptom of Craig’s popularity as an actor and desire to be involved in other projects), so, unless they put a clause in the contract that reduces the amount of projects the new actor can do during his tenure as Bond, they really need a young actor just to make it worth it.

Personally this feels very much re-hashed from the December 2022 reports which said he had 'shot a gun barrel sequence'. The BBC's article was so thin as it went though the usual other candidates to pad it out. Given his next lead project-Kraven the Hunter-is from Sony's Spinderverse and following on from the bomb that was 'Madame Webb' it needs all the help it can get! There was reports that Richard Madden was to be offered Bond 'within days' to cash in on Bodyguard in 2018 and Sussanne Beir would direct Bond 25 after 'Night Manager' which are just two examples of stories which didn't go anywhere.

There are a few comments you made which is valid. 1) The director is normally involved in casting Bond. As far as we know, there is no director. 2) There is normally a writer. As for As we know, there is no script. I will add my own point. 1) I wouldn't trust the S(c)um if they wrote water was wet. I know Nolan has apparently said he would cast Taylor-Johnson as Bond but there is no way the producers would give up that much creative control, even if Nolan is probably among the best directors right now, particularly with his two bookends that he has as Oscars in his well deserved hands. I think we are still quite far away from anything beyond Brocolli having conversations with Jeff (Blofeld) Bezos.

I give it more credibility than most rumours because he is an excellent choice for the role, by far the best I've seen. Most of the actors they talk about are either too old or look nothing like most people's idea of James Bond. Aaron Taylor-Johnspn seems to me to tick every box. Plus he's a well known face but not a big star they'd have to pay a fortune to, which is the kind of actor the Bond producers have usually gone for. If I were to bet, I'd bet it's true. Given I've long though that the next Bond needs to be in there early 30's due to the slow rate of production now a days [Mission Impossible 7+8 difficulties probably have ruled out 'back to back filming' and given 'The Batman part 2' has just been delayed until 2026, Robert Pattinson being in his 30's helps] and probably shouldn't be an A-Lister for the 'surprise' factor, I am supportive of Aaron Taylor-Johnson for the role and to me he feels like a more 'fresh' candidate than names that have been banded about for years or people who've played similar roles [multiple times in Cavill's case] but again I'll believe it when I see it. I'll be interested to see if the Nolan rumors get revived given he's [well deserved] Oscar win and having worked with A T-J on Tenet. Whoever is cast I do want to give them a chance though.

I do understand the sentiment around them getting a director and script before the actor, but that was almost 20 years ago now. Like it or not (I don't really) today we live in a world of cinematic universes and connected movies, so maybe for this bond, they're casting the actor first, due to that being the most recognizable face for the audience

I remember Calvin accurately saying someone will need to direct the screen test and they'll need to know what tone there going for [David Arnold said he was given the Casino script when Craig was cast and was confident he was going to be a success in the part]. I could only imagine it happening if Nolan has agreed to do it [as he'd write the script] or Martin Campbell did the screen test before a younger person directed the film but as you say it seems unlikely.

Something else to consider is that (as you said) Amazon now owns MGM and Bond was undoubtedly a huge part of that sale. They aren't going to let EON sit around wearing black armbands forever. I'll believe all this when Wilson and Broccoli introduce Taylor-Johnson at a press conference, but I do think that there's more going on than they've suggested. FUN FACT: Assuming that this is all real and Taylor-Johnson ends being Bond for a decade (the bare minimum that EON is apparently asking), he'll *still* be younger than Roger was when he started.
@jamesatkinsonja
@jamesatkinsonja 7 ай бұрын
It was interesting when Amazon said they were going to reboot loads of MGM properties [like 'Thomas Crown'] that Bond wouldn't be part of it given Eon are still figuring out the reboot. It does make me wonder how much say Amazon has it in or if things like 'Sound of 007' and having the films on prime are useful 'filler' for Amazon until a film materialises.

I’m jealous of the fact that James Bond updates seem to be national news over there. Otherwise, this would be great news to me! Aaron Taylor Johnson seems like a great pick, in that he’s a suitable blank slate, looks enough the part, and there’s nothing I dislike about him. Here’s to hoping Nolan directs it and they manage to pump the thing out before WWIII.

I'm at the point where I won't believe any casting news if it doesn't come directly from Barbara Broccoli and Michael G Wilson. Also, Aaron Taylor Johnson has "almost been hired" to play Bond for more than a year now... It's probably his team just trying to force their hand but I don't know if it can really work. Personally, I still wish they'd go with an unknown to the general audience or, if they pick someone who's already established in the industry, I'd rather them going with someone who hasn't already lead a big action movie. My pick at the moment would be Jonathan Bailey. Still, right now I believe them when they say that the casting process hasn't begun yet... However, it's been enough time since *NTTD* that I'm starting to believe that they are working on at least a 1st draft of a screenplay. Who knows, maybe this lack of official news is making me a bit delulu lol

This feels like the first piece of REAL Bond news we've gotten in almost three years. If it's true, I'm for it. I like Aaron Taylor-Johnson enough to where I'm good with him being cast as Bond. He's young enough and he's got the comedic chops (as displayed in Kick Ass, The King's Man, but mostly Bullet Train) needed for the role. Hopefully Eon brings back the humor of the first 20 Bond films instead of the seriousness we got with the Craig era as a response to the Bourne movies but also just post 9/11 Hollywood in general.

If Aaron Taylor-Johnson accepts the role of James Bond, my prediction is that he will be a more campy Bond like Roger Moore and/or Pierce Brosnan. Nothing wrong with that, but if they go down that road, maybe they could continue from DAD (considering that Craig's Bond was a reboot) and continue the campy style with the new Bond?

I highly doubt that Barbara Broccoli is telling the truth when she says there's "nothing" regarding the next Bond film/era. More likely she means nothing has been finalized or is even close to that point. Just ideas & suggestions on what to do that are so under baked that to mention them would just lead to fans speculating & then being disappointed about stuff that was never actually promised...because that's how the Internet works these days. Probably still trying to decide what kind of tone & direction to take the series, as that will dictate what type of crew and actor they want for the next couple of films. Or maybe they really are taking a break after making Daniel Craig's films for over a decade. Maybe there really has been no development, at the end of the day we can only take these announcements and interviews at face value.

I can imagine the only grain of truth here is that ATJ has perhaps met with BB about potentially auditioning for the role further down the line. Nothing formal, just a quick chat (she did the same with Craig, and like Craig she actually knows ATJ from a third party - in this case his wife). He's probably not the only actor they've approached about this. Just gives them an idea of specific candidates/whether they'd be interested. Apart from that it's rubbish.
@jamesatkinsonja

Ralph Finnes said he had an 'informal' chat about the role in the mid 90's so it's certainly plausible. Similar to how both Nolan and Eon have said they've had chats about him directing Bond for years but it's never [so far] been anything serious.

I call BS on this. Having said that, the only reason I want to see him as Bond is because with him in the role I wonder if his leading lady will be a mature one. A leading lady pushing 50 will be nice to see, and will diminish the bad taste left after Monica Bellucci’s brief time in SPECTRE. Apart from that I am not excited for him getting the part.
@jamesatkinsonja
@jamesatkinsonja 7 ай бұрын
Bellucci's cameo really added little to the film other than slow the pacing [I suspect it might have been a late addition to the script as only Craig appears with her for her scenes]. I'm all for more mature ladies in Bond [It's crazy Honor Blackman was one of the oldest at 39!] .
@barbedheart

The only reason I can think of why Aaron Taylor-Johnson would have been offered the role at this point in time would be because Craig co-produced his Bond films, setting a new precedent for the next Bond actor. Talyor-Johnson would want to produce as well, or Broccoli/Wilson would assume he should. So in casting a new Bond they would also hire a co-producer to develop the film with. This would help explain Taylor-Johnson's quote about not doing what has been "laid out" for him and perhaps also shed some light on the Christopher Nolan connection. Perhaps Nolan has worked as some kind of chaperone or reference for Taylor-Johnson seeing as he was in Tenet. Speculations! Yes.

This will be the first time that Bond will be younger than/the same age as me, and I think that's just not going to work. It all ends for me with Bond getting blown sky high! It was a good run. I even got to work on one of them, so I'll always have my memories. Time to get into something with an older protagonist...Colombo perhaps 🤔
