Amazing. In Australia we are not permitted to have anything shown here without firearms training a firearms license, approved gun safe, police approval and of course, fees and charges .......... even that pigeon would attract attention from Bio security bods. I'm fairly sure that those military replica BB shooters would not be permitted full stop. We are allowed to have catapults but not if they have wrist grips. Having said this, the criminals have full access to everything.

Thank you for this wonderful review, Andy. In my youth, living in the Philippines, I started out with a Philippine made Squires Bingham (now Armscor) CO2 air rifle that had a threaded air reservoir under the barrel, and it was charged with a CO2 tank that had a threaded valve. We would thread the tank into the reservoir intake in front, open the valve for a few seconds, charge the rifle, and then close the valve tightly and unscrew. I could usually get about a dozen effective shots out of it per charging before lower pressure would have an effect on pellet trajectory. The CO2 tank, when empty, could be sent to a sporting goods shop for a CO2 refill. It was usually sold seprarately from the rifle. I believe my gun was called the Squires Bingham Model 16 bolt action air rifle. I had won quite a few medals in competitions with this rifle as a young man. It is no longer being manufactured, unfortunately, but there are still quite a number of these plugging away all over the Philippines. I no longer live there, but this is one type of air rifle that I don't see anywhere else in the world. I am curious as to whether you have ever had air guns like these in the UK?

my first air rifle was the crossman 1077 .177mm 12-shot semi-automatic rifle, which i thought was a good idea at the time, it was low power(7,5joule) but what i didn't realize at the time is that it can only be used outdoor is the summer or wehn temps are above 15 celsius, so now i am looking to buy the Gama 1250 magnum IGT air rifle, so i can also shoot on the not so cold wintersdays

To calculate the Ft-lb of the airgun, the formula is actually ; Ft/lb = Velocity of pellet (feet per second) x Velocity of pellet (feet per second) x Weight Of Pellet (Grains) / 450240 or “V squared x mass over 450240 = Ft-lbs (energy)

Some years ago i used to play paintball, we started with Co2 cartridges, progressed to larger refillable bottles, but found Co2’s limitations of being affected by cold and less fill when refilling from a much larger bottle. So we all changed to air system which was much more reliable, apart from the sizes and shape, but lighter.

Got mine from the CCS over 3 years ago. 18" Crosman bbl from then. Got it to control squirrels and named it Squirrel-X. I also got a carbon fiber TKO moderator on it. Made it far more yard friendly with the nieghbors. Took the report from 111 db down to 96 or so. In db math that means it is like 1/26th the noise it had before mounting the moderator. The moderator is GRRRRRREAT! Mine is not that long,,,,adds like 6" to the barrel length. I can more easily tell the difference between the pellet hitting a tree, ground or felt. I have laid in head shots on squirrels @ 40 yds with this thing when I could bench rest the barrel. Lot's of drop over 40 yds but still,,,,with what was a 100 dollar Hawk 2-7 scope the thing is magic. I run Air Arms Falcon 13.4 pellets. Even with the iron sights (I found a light fiber front sight that fits the moderator and the scope is on 'view under' mount) I hit em out to 30 yards easily. No head shots though on that dance. Drop @ 40 yds is like 3.5". Easily graduated on the scope retical. The stock was short so I tossed a pool noodle on the shoulder member to tighten it up for me. I also put a pool noodle on the upper stock so when my cheek hits the stock it aligns with the scope. That piece can be slid back on the stock for sighting under the scope with iron sights. Great gun man. For the price it's unbelievable. The squirrels no longer run from the report. They are just that stupid. However the down side to the moderator is that the neighborhood cats no longer come running to gather up gifts for their owners. lol Iron sights zeroed @ 10 yds and scope @ 20. So yeah 3.5 drop @ 40 yds on the scope. .22 is pushing 'bout 600 fps with the pellets listed above. Just took out two more tree rodents today @ about 25 yds. Easy picking they were. Drop from 10 to 20 yds is like 3/8". Drop from 20-30 yds is 1 and 3/8' Still enough power @ 40 yards to go clean through a squirrel's head. Put a drop of 30W engine oil on the cartridges to limit leakage and lube the interals and the barrel. Mine is sporting a rifled barrel.

All you need to know is to get a 2nd variant Crosman 180 or a 160 from the same era. Best that have ever been made. So good that the qb78 made today is a Chinese copy. With my '65 180 set all the way down on low with the first cocking notch I get 50 good shots.

Ive hunted rabbits with both the Umarex 10/22 and the cowboy under lever shell ejector, they both do the job with a single head/eye shot, no problem at 50 yards. You can use 1000 fps break barrel at 100 yards, and you could even use a 400 fps pistol at 10-20 yards if you really wanted to. Don't let yourself think that just because it does or doesn't say hunting on the box that you can or can't hunt with it. For hunting 50yd and less, I much prefer my 10/22 (.177) For hunting over my two gamo Break barrels. Semi auto double action, or 2 pound trigger with single action, 12 shot capacity. I only use the break barrel when i absolutley need some more distance. As far as general fun, versatile usage, price, and replication, its just easily one of my all around favorites.

Co2 are fairly good in warm weather and I made a custom rifle out of an XS78, but when it got colder the power dropped and so did the number of shoots, this was in .22 cal. I had a 92s in .177 cal and power wise poor but it looked good and was fun to shoot at 10 yards but after that not very good. If you want FUN guns that look like the real thing and are multiple shoot them these are good. If you can afford to go PCP then yes you will gain a rifle or piston which will give you all weather shooting with power and accuratecy over a much longer range but for a price. The CO2 is not that cheap. On my rifle I had 4 bulbs under the barrel which gave me 80 shoots max with about 50 at reasonable power. I went back to my spring guns which don't have any of these problems and are ready to go when ever I want. All the guys in the Field target club I went to all had PCP or Spring guns for target work and we had a CO2 range for fun shooting.

There has been a right cock up with one of the rifles I brought, it's not supposed to be full auto but on the selector switch that gives you the option of single, semi or full auto, it actually allows the selection of full auto, so warning to anyone who gets a gun/rifle where the selector switch says full auto I'd double check the rifle before buying.

Good stuff as always. We big ratty fans an have customised lots of em. Not convinced that the metal breech improves the power tho, as long as the transfer port seal is good. I use plastic ones on the pistols and metal on the rifles. We have bolt action and side lever multi shot breeches on ours Also rattys cam be easily changed to a high pressure air instead of co2, makes em less temp sensitive. David James Thompson and Norris Sheldon both make great custom parts for rattys in the UK.

9:01, the calculation isn't too complicated: V^2 • M ÷ 450240. That's: velocity times velocity (in feet per second) times mass (weight in grains) ÷ 450240 = KE (termed foot pounds of energy in airgunspeak). Example: 720 x 720 x 15.89 grains ÷ 450240 = 18.295 fps.
@heathhalfhill68674 жыл бұрын
Commenter Five I feel like a smart ass or a know it all when I try to tell other shooters how to figure out their projectiles energy. Nice to know I’m not the only on that probably has this happen too. Plus the question of the 450240... try explaining gravity’s constant to one of these shooters. I’m not that articulate and can’t seem to get them to understand. This formula is simple and like you, don’t get why some people find it difficult to understand.
