The right answer is to get to a healthy bodyweight and max your strength out at that weight. There's no need to get heavier to lift more if you're not a competitive powerlifter.

If one follows the bodyfat percentage, you'll have your caloric surplus and get stronger and heavier without getting fat. The point is to choose what percentage you're confortable with and staying there, adjusting your diet towards mantaining fat%, not mantenance which is current weight mantenance! I'm very happy at 20%, down from 28% and weak. Will continue lifting and gaining weight accordingly, always at 20%.

You have to gain weight at all costs; it doesn't matter how fat you will be. add weight to the bar It doesn't matter how much you weigh; it matters how strong you are. Bigger is stronger. Get your body weight to 500 lbs get bigger You will be bigger than what happens next. You will be stronger too and lift more heavier weights drink 3 gallons of mil a day and get bigger get it? you get stronger.

I’ve been living this. Mid 30s, 5’8, about 6 mo ago my squat sets across were around 285 and DL working set ~325 at a BW ~195 (much more fat than I want on me). Then spent about three months doing the program, got to 330 for squat sets across and DL 370X5, weight according to scale didn’t change! I now want my fat trimmed so running a slight deficit, similar lifting frequency but I can’t train to anywhere near the intensity I could before. I probably lost 25 pounds on my squat and my DL. I’m OK with that for now because the fat’s coming off.

Protein is the limiting factor, you need a minimum amount of protein to build muscle (estimated by bodyweight), then whatever that number is for you, you need the correct ratio of fat for hormones, so essentially it is only the carbs that need to vary for body composition changes.

If the only thing that makes your lifts go up is gaining weight, just WHAT are you accomplishing?? Especially on something like a bench press where your bloat and excess fat literally makes the mechanics of the lift easier for you. What matters is strength relative to your size. Who cares if I can lift 600 pounds if I have to bulk up to 400 pounds. I know people are into very silly things and singling out someone's preferred hobby or passion is kind of a dick move, but seriously, why would anyone actually prioritize simply being able to lift the most weight possible??? Even if you become that person and set a world record, I couldn't give two craps about it and I think 99.999% of the population would agree with me, like ya, congratulations, you were born with the most superior DNA to do that one specific list most optimally, now go out and get absolutely obliterated in any actually athletic activity you try to participate in that isn't simply lifting the heaviest possible rock off the ground

Not doubting Rips knowledge by any means, but he most definetly only trains people with high testosterone or people on drugs in general. Because the weight gain advice only works for them. Going from a 205lbs at 6 foot to 255lbs in 3 months will surely drive up your squat by a decent number, but you will sleep worse, your face most likely looks swollen and your breath hard when talking lol. You definetely will look fat if you don't have the genetics for it and I feel like these dudes are in an environment where people in general have insanely high testosterone that they lost touch with reality. They try to convince me that Chase is an average person. Dude is surely a workhorse aswell, but I would probably be at a 245 lbs OHP where he is at a 405lbs OHP with the same amount of work at the same bodyweight.

Someone who already weighs 300 shouldn't eat a surplus, as stated in the book they should eat maintenance, still 200-300g protein and 100g or so carbs, until that person becomes physically strong.
