Something I just learned about isopods is that lizard owners will often use them as cleanup crews to remove a lot of the lizard's leftovers and waste without disturbing it. And that makes me think isopod would be a really good name. Because you use it to salvage the Scarab's leftovers.

You made me think of a name for the DPR-2. I quite like the image of the ship going through the chrysalis stage, but instead of a butterfly it could draw its name from a moth : one on the largest moth is called Atlas moth and i find the name fitting this huge hauling ship, since it refers both a moth way too big for our sanity, and a titan holding the earth. A little far-fetched by i like the name.

27:45 You may notice that when you target the disruptor turrets, your weapons target the centre of the facility (which happens to be behind a lot of armour in this case). You should instead target the armour block directly behind the exposed turret section instead to take it out without needing to burn through all the armour.

Situation @~ 14:50 If you want to engage more effectively, override your set attack distance to much closer. When you have it set to barely in range (as you should with Ion beams normally) the ship will slow down significantly before matching the target distance, leaving more time for the enemy ship to move away to travel speed etc. So by temporarily setting attack distance to very close, you rush into combat range much quicker.

Issue with your mining laser setup: their deadzones aren't facing each other, so you can have one laser salvaging the other by accident. Also, the double capacitor for the lower bank is going to be less efficient than even a single basic reactor and a capacitor. You have so much uranium you might as well use it for secondary reactors where needed.

Found that when out destroying enemy ships for resources it's best to disarm enemy ships with an attack ship whose weapons are set to target weapons only. Then bring in the mining ship and have the cutter finish the job. The cutter won't detonate or 'destroy' parts like weapons do. You get more resources (nuclear cells, hy-coils, etc.) that blowing the ships' reactor can often destroy. Plus, loot doesn't get scatter all over space. A tractor beam does inevitably become part of a hauler/miner ship utilities so that can be used to hold enemy ship still while cutting too. Worth noting too those ships armed with cannon weaponry near always have ammo storage behind them. Blowing that up can often start fires and cause considerable damage to adjacent components (save your ammo and let the fires do the work for you) but you also lose all that ammo for looting and refilling your own bins. Steel plate is always a component I focus on the least since building causes any nearby resources at get automatically used. As long as you win a fight, you can always repair mandatory ship components like the reactor, cockpit, and basic weapons. It's also a plentiful resource found in the ship graveyard and destroyed faction bases, to the point where production is almost needless. Do not underestimate Point-defense systems around your ship. They are a solid counter for cannons. It's why I would never recommend cannons for a starting ship.

When you put the Door from the beds directly to the Capasitor, the workers dont have to go out of the room and in the capasitor. Thats two tiles less and they are directly at the energy pickup point. Greetings

Greetings :0) Yeah, I'm aware of the potential with the doors to cut down on travel time a lot in those instances, but sometimes I pick things purely based on aesthetics; I don't blame you for not knowing when I'm going for efficiency versus looks, honestly it seems to changes with the direction of the wind LOL, but I think with this particular ship I was aiming more for looks simply because it's designed to stay out of combat so wouldn't 'hurt' for being inefficient, you know?
@whisperzzar33212 жыл бұрын
Only Halfway through ATM, but I would strongly suggest, if you havent already, get rid on the ammo factory in the factory ship and just produce it on the combat ship. ( right next to the guns and a storage dedicated to ammo and sulfer) Efficiency is paramount when it comes to ammo. Especially with the flak guns and deck guns. Also, I highly recommend EMP missiles as you advance. Takes out sheilds and thrusters at a nice extreme range.

I love how your hauler's sheer scale is probably going to get to point it's 5x larger than other ship you have just because you need that much room for materials. There's probably a point where you'll start basically reaching the point you plan to leave that solar system before you've run out of a space putting a logical limit on how much storage you want to have, but I can certainly imagine the end goal of at least 1 large storage facility of every advanced and worked material is probably a pretty good goal. Even if the idea of you lugging around that many diamonds is just a hilarious flex of wealth rather than anything practical. In that regard I hope eventually you effectively get two industry sections. Basically General storage > tier 1 resources > A smaller tier 1 resource storage area > tier 2 resources > final storage. Would look really clean, and works as a good end goal for that sort of ship.

I also have some little hints to recommend or say if you don’t mind :) -when after a battle, most of the time you can just approach the wreck of an enemy ship and use their parts to repair your own, without having to call dpr2 or mine the resources from the wrecks -inside the deadly sphere of influence of stars there are *giant* gold asteroids. If you want to mine those, it would be better to build a HUGE and POWERFUL ship with a MASSIVE solar shield (made out of like, 5 layers of armor) and drag the asteroid out of the star influence zone. that would be, so cool to watch :D

@Aavak, I have an idea that might work. I don't know if it does as I haven't tested it yet but it would make sense that it would. Your Scarab has two flak cannons on board and from what you had said they are ammo hungry. Why not have two ammo factories feed directly into them. This way they are constantly being fed and you wouldn't need too many logistical members running from the storage area to gather the ammo and carry it back to the ammo-hungry weapon. Just food for thought on an idea that came to mind while I was reading on the Cosmoteer discord and listening to you in the background.

I feel like the capavitor splitting the triple batteries into single batteries wastes more cew time than the local storage gets you. I think just having the centeral reactor might be better, especially if you are using a lot of items with large internal storages, like ion beams, sheilds, large engines, and engine rooms. For example, the capacitors at the back of the freighter are harming your crew efficiency. A crew arrive from the reactor carrying the triple battery, stops 2m short of the engine room (where the battery will end up), and drops it off, splitting it into three single batteries. Then, somone else has to do two trips to get the battery the rest of the way. The same applies to the scarab engine room caps and the forward caps. Im confident that the front 2 ion beams would not have run out of power if they were directly fed. In short, anything with an energy storage larger than the battery size you are hauling around should be directly fed. Only exception might be shields, as they are the only item where the energy consumption can get arbitrarily high. Even then, putting a cap in front of them would waste manpower when just supplying their 'upkeep' EDIT: also, if you want to place down a capacitor, consider just having a small reactor. Esp for supplying small thrusters and pdcs. A small reactor will easily handle the load, and once you have a dedicated salvage and factory ship, materials become extremely cheap, crew are much harder to get.

I think it might be prudent for porters to supply ammunition to flak batteries before any other kinetics-based turret, even my beloved railgun, which ive found to be excellent at severing nacelles and the like. sure it takes 4 seconds and six ammo to fire but a single ammo factory exceeds its demand and it also has, in my opinion, the prettiest vfx in the game

regarding asteroids: I also noticed in my starting system there are a couple rare resources hidden just inside the danger zone of the start "only visible with DPR1's sensor array). I was thinking how to get to those, my ship didn't want to enter the danger zone and surely you can't send EVA's. Coincidentally I had been wondering what the tractor beam might be sueful for. Then I connected the dots 😂 (Haven't tried it yet, no idea if the range is anywhere close enough to reach those asteroids from outside the danger zone and pull them out of there...)

A bit too much dependence on capacitors. Changing out some of those for generators should help a ton. The ones farthest away from the main generator being great options. Faster reaction on thrusters only matters if the thrusters have enough power to move the ship. While it would take a lot of testing, the extra spool up time may not matter if it ends up getting the ship moved faster than the smaller ones due to the extra thrust.

So. Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't capacitors counter productive post level 1 reactor? One guy drops off 1 charge worth 3 to your engineer room. Then he picks up a charge worth 1 and 2 others must also come and pick up another 2 to drop off making more strain on crew power for elsewhere on the ship.

I think they can be more efficient when coupled with well managed travel times, which is easier to do with a capacitor than a large reactor. But what I'm finding at the moment is that if you aren't locked by enriched uranium then putting a level 1 reactor there is even more efficient still.

You can figure out the basics you'd need for them, but they'd come in handy while your main ship holds attention and they can snipe about, they can also provide protection for your factory hauler, call em spider mites. At the 30min mark you burrowed through the armour to get the disruptors as it selects the centre of it when you aim at it, but if you fire at the small square armour block behind the head of the disruptor that's sticking out, you can kill the disruptor much quicker if he doesn't skew to block.

A fully raw episode of Aavak building goodness, followed by a nearly equally raw combat episode would be Cosmoteer bliss! Why? Because Aavak the Shipwright Engineer and Aavak the Space Admiral is toe to toe on quality gameplay! Combined with that commentary flowing effortlessly into our ears like perfectly heated and healing sweet honey, is the immaculate cherry on top! P.s. Use a good length of structure combined with the mine explosive placed on the structure in the middle between the old and new ship, you could easily make more ships in stead for repairing the derelicts... Found that on the Steam discussions page. Just build, explode, transfer crew and Bob's your uncle!

40:00 is it me or does that ship look like an eater of souls from terraria a little bit?

Hey Aavak, has anyone told you how to save your crew-role settings? When you click the crew main menu, there is a little menu icon just to the left next to the header 'Crew Management'. There will be an option to save current role definitions as your default setting. That saves it to the system, so it will be the default and auto-load the roles whenever you build a new ship. You can also 'paste' the whole default role setting to existing ships, so you don't have to re-create the roles for each ship individually. This has saved me a lot of headache. I hope it helps you also.

Something I have noticed in the last day. The thrusters don't seem to balance but do fire if there is even the slightest CoT potential. So found it useful to switch to Direct Control mode and do some rotations and strafes to tune the thruster locations. Had to fix my barge being able to wiggle forward using only rotation

I'm trying to break myself of the habit of having everything in one ship, production and weaponry. I need to do a redesign and get myself a factory ship going too.

Name suggestion for the DPR-2 > Cargo-Space Pun on "car go space", the Tesla that was put in space and because its cargo BUT IN SPACE ! PS: One ship is called the DPR1 and the other the DPR-2 - Please fix your naming conventions xD

Oh, I likely named it to match the paint at the time, depending on the space I'm playing with I will sometimes use the hyphen to stretch the name out to fill a space better XD I'll fix it at some point I'm sure (You're not the first to comment on it, I just forget such a tiny detail while recording lol)

it would be nice if you could lock slots of inventory or something to that effect. my reason is to make it easier at a station if you want to sell all but 200 steel for example.

In case you missed it while rearranging the DPR-2, you didn't reinstall any hyperdrive on board.

DPR2 spends its time flying towards explosions made by DPR1 - ergo it must be a Moth

With moving walkways you can continue them through a intersection. If there is a slow down sideways I haven't been able to notice one. On the flip side there is a very noticeable slow down going from a moving walkway then having to walk across an intersection then going back on the moving walkway again how you have it rn.

Have you considered using 2 batteries of 2 ion cannons? 2 cannons to a crystal to max econ and retain the practical turret function and cool factor plus you get dual lasers

I've been thinking about it for a while, but it may be time to split the Scarab into a dual-channel Ion beam ship. Two beam channels would give greater damage redundancy as well as increased damage output for the price of increased size. It wouldn't even need more crystals. Instead of channelling all beams into one, a 4-1 setup, doing a dual 2-1 setup has less damage penalties. Greater damage output, greater combat redundancy and only at the cost of increased structure. And time, redesign time, heh. Also, shields can be stacked into multiple layers too. My last ship had a secondary shield set way back, basically in line with the armor to act as a backup protection when the primary went down or hit by penetration rounds from cannons.

one thing ive been noticing i think is a major system missing in this game is life support systems, i used to love that part of FTL worrying about oxygen and keeping rooms sealed off and stuff, and it could be a even cleaner way to claim a ship by just killing off crew members
