People should note that there are two varieties of atama - one is more bitter and needs to be blanched with hot water and washed till the bitterness comes off , while the other is not bitter.

Actually 3 types. There's one type my mother planted. The leaves are dark green and quite bitter. But if you wash it with hot water, it gives you a very sweet after taste in the mouth . I hardly find that specie around.

Wow! This uyaya is called "prekese" in Ghana and "4 côtés" (four sides) in Côte d'Ivoire. In Côte d'Ivoire, it's mostly used as traditional medicine to boost fertility. One love❤🇬🇭🇳🇬🇨🇮

We use palm nut for Banga soup with banga spices and beletete leaf eaten with banku(pounded starch and plantain) and it's a staple in Delta state. In South East Nigeria, palm nut is used for ofe-aku soup, the spice and vegetables used is different from banga. In Calabar, Akwa-ibom, palm nut is used for today's recipe and the spice and vegetables used is different from the two soups above. I'm sure some other regions use palm nut for their soups but these are the the popular recipes.

@SisiYemmie, You got cooking the Abak soup so right. Have you tried eating it with Rice apart from swallow.? It's BAE for me!. It reminds me of village while growing up as a kid. I love Abak Atama anytime, anyday..Another way to enjoy it is cook the Atama with Water leave. You'll love that too. But, with Abak it makes me eat more than enough. Thanks for taking me back home. My boys love this soup so much. The Uyakak is also a constant K in my pantry.
