This clock was hidden in an attic since WW2 before I bought and restored it. Hear it chime the Nazi anthem 'Volk Ans Gewehr' for the first time in over 70 years!

My great grandparents owned a clock and watch store in Chemnitz before and during the war. The store was completely destroyed in the March 1945 bombing of the city. Today the large bust of Karl Marx sits 20 meters to the left of where the store once stood. We were fortunate to have several clocks that were at home and today one of them hangs on my wall still working perfectly.

It's the first time I see a clock like this... I've seen mantel clocks made by FMS with this chime, but never a wall clock! This type of clock is probably next to nonexistent... It's very good that this one survived! By the way, you've got an amazing collection of rare clocks! I'm glad that I discovered your channel and seen some new types of clocks (those with Tessiner and Volks gong, the 2 weight Grand Sonnerie clock, and also I thought that I'd never see a second GB wall clock with Whittington chime!). Keep up the good work :)

This clock is wery comun in Brasil. Its fros Junghans oder from Junghans oder facktory after 1930 : Gustav Bäcker, In Freiburg In Schlesien ( today Poland) . The most comun ist with three springs von Junghans. The sound is Westminter! But in this clock here the boy change two of the sound bars.

It takes bravery to dismantle and reassemble such a complex clock. I have a Mauthe clock with this same chime and I would dread having to do this task!

My grandparents had a clock like this. I restored it to working order many years ago. I'm not sure if it's still running at this point. Yes it was from Germany, but since it was exported to Canada, it just had a regular chime without the Nazi chime.

You're a brave man letting that mainspring down with just the key. I've had badly bruised fingernails doing it that way. Great job with this. I would love to have a clock like this in my collection, nazi chime and all.

What a good idea to use a rubber tumbler drum to polish the parts! They look beautiful!
@uhrennarrLR7 ай бұрын
Thank you! These clockmakers tumblers are great because you can exactly control how clean the parts will become. From just removing the dirt but leaving the patina to as shiny as new.
@jamespassas94417 ай бұрын

I have a similar clock that has been in our family for at least six generations. It has 3 main springs. It chimes every 15 minutes and it counts on the hour with a Westminster melody. I would never dare to take it apart, but it needs a service.

Don't worry, that's a clockmaker's tumbler, made by Lortone. The granulate is ceramic and won't wear down metals.

I have an identical clock - but I do not think it is German. It is stunning how accurate the clock time is. I have a question - my clock has a metal brack on the inside of the back of the case, and I have no idea of it's function. It is like a saw-tooth level with the bottom of the clockface. Do you know what it's function is?
@uhrennarrLR8 ай бұрын
Both sides can be turned inwards to clasp and secure the chiming rods during transport.
@leightri8 ай бұрын
OMG - just checked and they do fold together over the rods. I have moved the clock so many times as I moved house and never realised that. Thank you so much.@@uhrennarrLR

He did a lot of wrong when he hit the drum lid directly with the hammer! . There you hit it with a small piece of wood to avoid leaving hammer marks on the drum. You are setting the WRONG example!
@uhrennarrLR6 ай бұрын
In my experience, a small hammer doesn't leave marks on the sturdy main spring barrels of these quite modern German clocks. On french and most older clocks I use a rubber hammer or wood underlay. But you're right, I should have used one of those here as well to not set the wrong example for those who might not know the difference.

Dear sir, first, let me congrat you with your quite new channel. I like it, and looking at the thumbnails, I imediatly recognized my clock, as shown in this vid. Mine seems to be a slightly cheeper version, as it doesn't play German songs but only has a two tone chime. Mine has an interestng issue that I would like to ask you about. Just before getting into details, I 'd like to ask you: Are you at all interested in this type of conversation? If so, do you have an email that you are willing to post here? Could send you some pics. Maybe a bit difficult but I just don't want to post my mail for everyone to see on Tube. Would be nice hearing from you.. Regards V.

Hi, the same clock was built with BimBam-chime, which was the standard, while the special chimes were only offered in 1933 and 34. I don't mind helping out, go ahead and contact me at rupprecht.uhren@gmail.com. This goes for anyone reading this.
