This is 10,000% what I hope to find when I have time to take on a project. '65, post sedan, straight six, column 3 speed, rough everywhere. Hell of a score in the trunk, all those extras you get to keep for other revivals and rescues. I wonder if the previous owner knew the engine was going to go and was collecting bits to do a V8 swap, or if he had a Camaro he wanted to build and the Bel Air failed on the way back from the salvage yard. Wonder if there's reprints of those radio/antenna installation diagrams or if you have some unique stuff that deserves scanning and uploading to the interwebs for 65 owners everywhere? Might be something dealer techs used back in the day and none got saved? I'm pretty sure Clayton would survive driving to Oklahoma. I mean it's only a 950ish mile trip straight down 281, no interstate, no toll booths. 5 cylinders is enough. 3 doors is enough. None brakes is enough. Might have to do something about the exhaust. I can stop to add water and/or oil every hour or so. Tubes might outlast the casings though. Clutch might not be happy. But I think it'd make it given enough time and a healthy serving of luck. Pretty sure I'll miss out on this one but I'm gonna scavenge up some plain 14's and usable tires in case I find another or yours is still available later.

But he kept all the maintenance up on it himself, even PM, changing oil whenever it should've been changed and everything else. Anywho, yeah, it was good car, at least when we had it. In my junior year of college my roommate had a 1954 Chevy with the in-line 6. It spun a rod and having very little funds for repairs the local mechanic took out the offending piston and rod and as I remember clamped a piece of tin around the crankshaft to maintain oil pressure and we drove this 5 cylinder Chevy for the rest of the year. The fact was he bought the car from a friend of his brothers for $5 , it was brush painted black with a 6” bright green “racing” stripe. Also had a 6” log behind the front seats to keep them from tipping over backwards 👍😄🎩

That fine piece brings back some memories, a buddy's dad had a repair shop and was letting me use the lift to work on my junk. Had to make a bone yard run for parts and a kid working out of the back shop let me use his 65 with 6 banger to run down to the valley. He always told me how he never had to buy oil for it because he just used the drain oil from car services. Before I left for the parts he said just remember not to take your foot all the way off the accelerator when going down hill. Of course on the first big hill I forgot until I hit the bottom, stepped on the throttle and instantly could not see the road behind me through the cloud of blue smoke, good times.

👍 The expression as the crow flies is an idiom for the most direct path between two points, rather similar to "in a beeline". This meaning is attested from the early 19th century, and appeared in Charles Dickens's 1838 novel Oliver Twist: We cut over the fields at the back with him between us - straight as the crow flies - through hedge and ditch. Got it from Wikipedia.

Yes, That would have been me screaming that's from a 68-72 Nova. I have owned close to 300, with most of them from a few years in the late eighties. I bought and sold them for several years as a side hustle. I painted them all the same, flat black. I bought two 55 gal drums of flat black from a military surplus outlet. most of them were 6 cylinder with a 2 speed power glide. With a price range of $100-$500. All of these old GM cars brings back a lot of memories. Yes, all of the less than desirable models from way back when. Hell, my first car was a 4 door 1967 Buick special. I have been thinking, I may have another low buck build left in me. One more for the road, literally.

Last time I saw such barbaric bodging was the Land Rover owners club. Mortske, you are a man of true brilliance. Love this channel

It's going to be one lucky kid who gets this '65 chevy 5 cylinder more door with junk in the trunk for free! (that's a very nice thing to do). Thanks Mortske for another great video with good music! And more Pookie, but with subtitles though!!
