Leave it stock please!! Best vehicle I ever owned was A 1975 C30 crew cab dually camper special, 454 with turbo 400. It carried a 12 and half foot camper most of the 200 thousand plus miles it had on it. Took it with camper up and down the Alcan 3 times in the 80s and 90s. I am now 80 years old and that truck brings back great memories. Thanks Puddin

No offense but your truck was yours and this truck is his, it doesn't need to be what you would do, but you can still respect it and reminisce the same! In fact, if left stock, then you will only see it in the background here and there as opposed to it he builds it, then you'll get a lot of content to take you back to those good ol days! I don't know about you but I'd love to see him dive back into a lot more fabrication again! He enjoys it and that shows! I think between him and slick they could really transform the bed into one hell of a trick setup to really showcase not only their talent, but their passion as well! Leave the outside as it is (fix the rust spots if he wants and maybe paint the hood, roof and bed rails....) but cutting the middle of the inside of the bed out and doing some huge tubs to tuck semi wheels as well as leaving the rear axle, frame and an intricate suspension exposed (like a custom cantilever bag setup) along with a really nice sheet metal design in the front of the bed housing the air ride system with crazy hard lines and custom brackets and mounts would be amazing! OR slam it static and put in a high performance/big (ger) cube motor and make it haul as..... !

@@Hobodeluxe960I agree The red needs to absolutely go! After the last square body interior he did, this one needs to eclipse that! (Ironically he said he did it because his buddy deserved it because he's so selfless..... Puddin have him that truck, he gave back the previous owner of the "some day model a", he's honest and extremely thankful for us to and is absolutely sincere when he said it! If ANYONE deserves a quality interior, Puddin does! This truck has so much exponential potential, there's absolutely no way he should just leave it stock! (He knows that though, there's no question that he really wants to proceed to see where he takes it!);

IAC. (Idle air control) motor is located in the t body. Pull it out and clean the pintle and where it seats. It is a controlled vacuum. Also be careful of the gasket as you put it back or replace it. You can watch it open and close if you have a scanner. To determine if it's the cause of your stumble. Pretty common and won't usually throw a code...

If it was mine Puddin , I'd leave it just like it is except fix a few lil things I noticed as you were working on it. Like replacing the swaybar bushings with polyurethane bushings, connect that cruise control rod back up to the that actuator where it goes and see if the cruise control would work. And after that, I'd ride that Cowboy Cadillac.

I got my truck last August. 1989 F250, long bed extended cab, not crew. 460 and C6, also red on red. Dragged the thing home and got it running. It needed a fuel pump and rear brakes. Interior just about as minty as this rig. Threw one of them Apple CarPlay head units in. The thing cost me $250. No, I didn’t miss any zeros or commas. Guy had let it sit since 2011 and just wanted it out of his driveway.

If , when you replace any component of the power steering/hydroboost system on any vehicle, you will elevate the front wheels where you can easily turn them without starting the engine, top off the reservoir , steer it back and forth a couple of times before you start it, that will cause the large piston in the power steering box or power steering rack to push the air out and fill everything with oil. When you start it without doing that it aerates the fluid and those bubbles make the pump cavitate causing the whine sound and since its full of air bubbles it over flows the reservoir because the air displaces fluid. just make sure the the reservoir stays full while you purge it as described with engine off. Power steering fluid should be used in power steering systems, transmission fluid breaks down the seals and permeates the hoses. When I was first starting out as a mechanic I put transmission fluid in the power steering systems and had a lot of leaks, an older mechanic told me about the problems that occur if you don't use PS fluid, just passing it on, good luck and great video.

As a fellow squarebody crew cab owner I can agree that truck is good as is, you're not gonna save any money by doing too much work to it if you intend to occasionally drive it every now and then for hauling stuff. I use mine for long distance hauling across the states and have diesel swapped it in stead of the 454 it had originally, tripled my MPGs. Those seats are amazing and they'll be great for the long drives.

Hey Puddin when you swap steering lines and fluid (and the gear) if you put the truck on the lift and work the steering back and forth lock to lock for about 10 minutes before you start it that usually helps get the steering system bled before the pump causes the fluid to get aerated. 5 grand for that rig is a pretty good deal considering you got a stereo system with it and no major components damaged. You get that AC working and that carpet kit you were talking about and a dash cap and that truck will definitely be worth double your money in the square body market! Good job of editing when doing multiple bolts, wires, wheels, etc! One suggestion: please put a dab of thread lube on bolts/nuts to make easier to assemble (and remove next time). The screeching exhaust flange bolts (1:24) were trying to tell you they're too dry!

You can change the pitman arm but if you want really good steering change the steering box if it is leaking and it will drive like a new truck just make sure to check how many turns on the steering wheel from Lock to lock.. some were 3 turn and some were 4 turn... if you decide to keep that steering box you can loosen off the 5/8 in nut and turn in the hex screw 1/8 of a turn or more but if it bottoms out back it off or the steering will not return to center which is a dangerous situation.. personally I would keep it on the original suspension... you might want to pressure test the cooling system while you're at it to make sure it's good to go.. nice dually Puddin !

You’ve got me all inspired to get mine all spruced up. I’ve got an 87 just like that in tan. It needs some serious tlc, but it does have good, solid bones. Zero rust. It’s next summers project. Got an OSB I’m working on right now. That and an express box van I’m building into a camper. One (or two..) thing at a time.

I forgot my daily square (an 86 c20 burb) needs some minor tlc. Due for a tune up, some fluid changes, and I got some aftermarket hella headlights for it that need to go in, so I can actually see at night. Just do a little bit every day and you’ll be way further along than you imagined pretty quick.

Hey there Puddin , I don't know if you know this or not but on , old school engines without cats on the exhaust system . You will have really good luck with using oil for diesel engines ! It has zink and all the other minerals and vitamins that every good dinosaur needs ! Too save the cam and lifters , and keep the engines clean and running a long time ! I always use SHELL ROTELA (NOT THE LOW E TYPE ) 15/40 ! It really does work well for old gas engines ! Anyway I love the new family member , and l vote to keep it stock height , that is what really makes this truck look sooo damn cool and it is the first thing you see when you walk up to it and makes you want to see more of this beautiful truck ! Thanks for a great show 👍 as always !

Yeah!!! We're doin up an 82' square body crew cab dually too. The starter had to be shimmed first thing to get her home. Motor and trans was swapped in two days, all without a lift. We're almost done, catch up Puddin! 🤠

I'm team "LOWER HER 5"/7" DROP". I have 91 SQBY DUALLY as well. I lowered it on stock wheels that I had powdered coated. Helper bags for towing and upgraded to ACES Fuel injection in place of TBI. Love it. No matter which way you go ... You can't beat an ol squarebody

With these early 90s fuel injected cars you need to pop the ECU open and verify there's no corroded capacitors inside. Fords are notorious for this but I'm not sure about chevy. has to do with the Quaternary Ammonium Salt/compound issue of the early 90s capacitors, they all leak everywhere and spew caustic electrolyte on everything and whoops, no more ECU. eats right through the conformal coating, even.

Definitely leave her as is. This is one that does not need to be slammed. What a great find and for only 5000.00, you could not find one where I live for that price. She cleaned up really good.

$10k would be cheap for that rig here in Tennessee. Great job on a pretty sweet tow/haul rig. Well worth investing the time and parts in. 👌 Another quality episode!
