All the interest with these owners is when someone comes around looking to buy the cars....'Nope not for sale" & as soon as the prospective buyer leaves....so does the interest of the owners.....Restoring these cars are a tall order.....at best if they were R/T...... They will be claimed by mother nature...........

That guy's like our friend's neighbor, he had a 69 Torino I would've loved to have but he wouldn't sell it so the rats got into it while it was sitting in his yard (with a ton of other stuff) and chewed up all the wiring and eventually they found a car that still had voltage in the battery lighting it on fire, setting the whole yard on fire and destroying over 50 old cars from 1964-1987. If you're not doing anything with a project, pass it on to someone that can actually enjoy it instead of just hording it until it rots into the ground or natural causes destroy it.. just like my high school friend's grandfather that owned a 1930 Model A that sat out on Highway 65 for decades and rotted away and then was completely destroyed when the field caught fire and the already rusty steel burned away to nothing.

It still blows my mind how some cars can sit with no ambitions to get them driving. Oh well. one day they will get saved.

I too had a few cars sitting. My 70 Challenger sat in my fathers yard in NC for a few years. Today it is restored and has spent its days in my attached garage. My 70 GTX sat in my front yard in SC for 14 years. I traveled away from home for my work. I would return to many notes on my car about selling. And there were many that brow beat me for letting my car sit out in the weather. I felt bad about it. But I had very few other options. It was the 80s and 90s. I am in the process of restoring the GTX. Engine is rebuilt. Along with the brakes and front end. I have all the parts now ( bumpers, trunk pan, interior head liner and carpet, seat covers ect.) everything to restore it back to its glory. I start it up almost every day. Just waiting to get the trunk pan out in. The cars are now garage kept and never see rain. The Challenger is driven weekly. It is a Vanishing Point tribute car. But has a warmed up 340. GTX has a 440-6. I have touched every nut and bolt on these cars. I did the mechanicals on both cars and will paint the GTX when the body work is finished. And despite the long sitting both cars were 90% intact. So let’s hope these two cars can get some love before they get any worse. I was young enough to have saved money and parts to put my plan in motion. Now I am retired and I am working the plan.

Very cool. I love that some of these are still around, but a shame it's withering away. I was at an estate sale a few years back looking for cast iron pans and wound up picking up their challenger...sitting in the garage since the early 90's. Took some serious asking-for-forgiveness of my wife. LOL.

@@BryceCold For sure, he will never make them, so for every day, they come closer to the grave, where only a few can or will make them. Normally "those" people, will only make cars that are at bit spec. if not, then they will die. It's a shame. I would love to have one of them.

This is a tip for all you admirers out there. There’s nothing “sad” or “such a shame” about these cars except that they’re not yours. To people like this (like my brother) these cars are like Schrödinger’s cat - As long as they still have them they’re both the pieces of neglected shit they most obviously are, AND the concourse restored to-die-for show cars they have the potential to be after a LOT of money (they’ll NEVER HAVE) is invested into them. But the second they put a price on it that fantasy restored car disappears for them. Understand? So does the envy they get off on and don’t have to lift a finger to attain. The price setting means that reality will now come in because nobody is going to pay what these cars “could be” they’re only going to pay what they’re actually worth, which isn’t ANYTHING near what the attention they get from being envied for simply having them. Telling you they’re “not for sell” keeps that fantasy alive for them. Letting these shitboxes continue to rust into non existence keeps those infantile fantasies alive. The envy and awe they get nowhere else in life. Conversely, these feelings of “what a shame” keep the fantasy of “what I’d do if they were mine!” alive. These are components of staying poor and not getting what you want out of life. They’re consolation prizes for losers. If you spent half the time and effort it would take to even get these hunks of junk rolling ( working a second or third job, not blowing your money drinking in bars and chasing pussy) you’d quickly save the cash to buy a working unrestored model. Instead of feeding some envy-whore’s need to be admired. It’s the fantasy of finding one of these that the owner doesn’t know the value of that keeps you fantasizing of getting something for nothing. Work your ass off while you’re young and preserve you’re health like it’s the most precious commodity in life, because it is. This is why more often than not the guys you see driving restored highly collectible cars are middle aged or old. Because it takes time and lots of money-generating and savings to get. Unless you’ve already got money you’re not going to find one of these where you can get it for nothing and fix it up yourself. Get busy earning money. Unlike garnering the envy of others that money will buy you what you want. We live in a different age now. Those stories of barn finds of rare cars are all but over. Cash is what you need.

Your mostly right guy, but someone pay 25k for a hull, that's where 2 fools meet !
@thepaulhenderson2 жыл бұрын
@@timothyroatenberry1274 as the internet has clearly illustrated there’s an abundance of fools out there for whom having a useless rusted out hull gives them imagined “skin in the game.” Even parts collectors who think they’re chipping away at getting their dream car by accumulating parts no matter how bad of condition they’re in. One day, they’ll all magically Christine-together the “dream car!” Again, there are an abundance of working models that will never recoup their owners investments. The best trick is to buy a car that’s had $100,000 sunk into it for just $40,000 or $50,000. But of course that means money and $50k is a lot to most people. And saving that up for a car when you’ve got a wife and kids is generally an older man’s game. More than they can imagine having, but it’s very doable it 5-10 years. Chances are that $40,000 car is also going to need a lot of work too but nowhere near the the hellish nightmare something like one of these would. I just see so many younger guys who’ve been trained to dream without understanding they can actually make their dreams come true. And the envy-whores are just part of the long game goal. Worse, there’s a whole new crop of sobbsters who think their sad, sad story can be parlayed into a shortcut to making their dreams reality.
