Hey L L I was able to find out that this was used as a home business that ran an Elite taxi service around 2011. The male owner lived there with one of the drivers and the large yard was used as car parking for the drivers cars and the fleet cars while not in service. Initially it was a very well to do home built in 1955.

Love this. Loved art deco since a kid helping sell antiques in the family store. In that era people were very creative with entertainment activities. Restaurants didn't have the huge draws all at once nor the laws we have today. It's possible to run in just a large kitchen for the time the cooking. Just like special home cooking. We certainly don't get that sort of cooking at home much anymore. Makes me hungry for that real food!

Cathy Reardon Viewed the home with the pink bathroom, which I've seen in other homes you have shown. I personally would rather have the blue. The pink reminds me of a medicine in the U. S. when I was about 8 years old. It was called Pepno Bismal for upset stomaches. I am now 71 years old now. Believe me it did not taste very good.😝 I probably misspelled the first word .🥞🥞🤭In .Oh

Yes I bet that place was stunning in it's original days, before someone guady-ed it up with 70s decor.
@MrGaryRoberton6 жыл бұрын
There's a timeline there. The original was probably built in the 1940's with a major refresh in the mid 80's. There are hold-overs, the Sectional settee was period correct, the Porthole door was as well. The style was mid-century modern. The cooker in the kitchen was straight out of 1968, the orbital clock with the digital display is classic. would have cost a truckload of money even then. The kitchen counter cabinets are so fifties it hurts. the pink & Black tiles are dead out of 1955, but the fixtures are new style That place would be a museum display here. Wonder who designed that? somebody important I bet. Wonderful find.

Hey Gary thats awesome knowledge and thanks for taking the time with it. I could only really be sure of the counter cabinets and booth style eating area as being 50`s the rest I was trying my best to squeeze into Art deco haha. What a crazy quilt of architectural styles! Everything from the '20s through the '90s. Love the pink tub and surround. I don't see it as a restaurant because, as another commenter said, the kitchen is way too small. It doesn't have the vibe of a brothel at all, either (though the carpet on the walls and mirrors everyplace are what every wannabe ladies' man in the 70's would've wanted for his pad). Maybe a bed and breakfast? Nice explore, nice and slow 👏🏼😻

Nicely filmed, I do love period places, and this has all the atmosphere. To me it looks a lot like a private gambling and after hours drinking club. Of course there would be snacks available, and maybe even a few “good time girls” to dance with, or to serve the drinks. It has that early upscale kind of flavour to it along with a touch of shady decadence. Great architectural bones there...I do hope it gets rescued instead of rubbished. Thanks for taking the care to get the right music. The front door is classic along with those bathroom colours and fittings. 🖤🇨🇦

Hi Paul! :-D I'm absolutely salivating over that G-O-R-G-E-O-U-S fireplace and the molding around those chandeliers! This is definitely Art Deco and I'm thinking that it looks like it was once a brothel. Hence all the pink. As a child I remember when this house was built, it had pine trees & a pool out front, when the transport department decided to expand Anzac Highway they brought most of the house for the expansion, the previous owners were not allowed to take any fixtures from the house only their personal belongings, over the years I had seen a cyclone fences around the front of the abandoned house,

I love the deco and pink bathroom. Not much of a restaurant to me, with the astrology magazines, maybe tarot card readings, and a brothel? Not sure, everything about it is not what it seems. No menus? it was a small business. I like the stairs and that fireplace. Someone was staying there, I quickly saw a can, of some sort on the floor next to the chair near the fireplace. Cute video, love the the added music.💕

Hey Elizabeth I was able to find out that this place was used as a taxi service home based operation. The large yard used to have all the cabs parked there and the staff would have to use the bottom floor thus the exit signs required for a business. I live a couple streets from here and about 20 years ago there were lots of taxis parked in the yard like a taxi hub. It would have been a stately home in the early years and then rented out to businesses in the end, maybe 70's on? Yes anything with rounded windows and walls like that is art deco, built between the world wars 1920's - 1930's. This is a good one Urbex! You would know the really cool art deco townhouse complex a few doors down from this one which is really high end and really well maintained, I've been inside a couple when they were for sale and they are beautiful. I hope the whole property is heritage listed, it's looks straight out of old Hollywood, Bette Davis time :-) Oh yeah and now this one has graffiti ALL over the front upstairs window, surely ear marked for demolition

Hi kukkaFeatures :-) Thanks for watching, your right for sure as I had a look at the older google maps images and there were a lot of taxis in the yard, elite I think. Yep this site is ear marked for a huge development and will be gone soon. Glad I explored it when it was still ok condition as now everything is tagged and smashed to pieces! That art deco complex I wish I have seen, I do like art deco! :-) In fact I will let you in on a little secret......up Anzac Hwy towards the city just before officeworks on the left there is an old iconic art deco building, 4 units in one. I`m the last tennant in there renting, that whole block including the older homes behind are on hold as developers are in on the game of proposals.......a few years back it was nearly redeveloped too! Once again the lounge suite and the recliner could have been picked up by one of our charities, the crockery etc could have been donated as well. The mantle in the lounge room is magnificent, lovely chandeliers altogether a beautiful house,especially the bathroom.

Great to see an Art Deco building, don't see many of them. My only thought is that I don't think it is being salvaged, it is being robbed. Salvagers would have gone after the frig and the curved booth not torn them up. Thieves take plumbing and wire and easy to move items. It is odd that those good ladders were left though. Maybe the thieves just got to some things before the salvagers showed up! I agree the bathrooms are amazing and whatever its use, it is a WOW. It would be great fun to fix and then live in.
@urbexindigo51646 жыл бұрын
Yeah you could be right here Jan Ramey. Robbers will use ladders to get up in the ceilings to get wire also ans search for hidden money and stuff. Thanks for watching :-)

So wonderful! Think it was residential to begin with, and then converted. The countertops in the kitchen are So Cool, and nicely complimented by the upper cabinets with sliding glass doors.The curved walls with curved glass so streamlined!Personal Fave An Awesome Front door with three portholes! The Classical niches and ceiling medallions don't seem original to me, although vintage not the right style, but hey there's no accounting for taste, seems the originals would have been chrome and streamlined, and very uniquely designed especially for the space! Great Explore!

Hi Robyn, this is still one of my Fav`s! :-) A local viewr was able to comment that she knew one of the former owners and he was a gentleman who owned and ran an Elite taxi service and parked the taxis in this huge yard and lived there. He also had one of his drivers living there with his Girlfriend downstairs. This was 20-30 years ago. It does eem to be a mix of beautiful eras! Thanks for watching and Im glad you enjoyed Robin :-)

Hahaha that was fantastic reading your comments just then Ed, good on ya! Haha. The old Trout pout hey! There are a few over here too but not as many and silicone valley! lol. Yeah this place is just up the road from me, been keeping an eye on it and making sure it was unused before I tried my luck. Glad I was able to video it but I really hope it does not get trashed or graffiti`d! I think your right with it being a bit of a play house for some rich bachelor. Maybe a private club for entertaining a select clientele. Thanks for watching mate! :-)

What a great find !... and what a mix of the mysterious. . I was immediately sold on this as a classic RoadHouse... the business atmosphere- commercial kitchen, eating nook.. and the upstairs.. all hallmark signs that this was also 'something else.' . But, I couldn't really call it an out-and-out brothel -- unless things are different in Australia. My reasons? . This looked to be in a rather densely built-up neighborhood- practically all similar establishments of this era are (in the US anyway) built-- "on the other side of the tracks." Neighbors are one thing Roadhouses do not want (to hear complaints from the neighbors to the authorities.) Also the upstairs rooms where the girls would have entertained lacked both separate bathrooms for them ( a big requirement) and also a separate exit for the patrons to leave by a non-descript door. Two things I always look for. . On the other hand, how do you explain the heavy purple curtains and that fancy mauve bathroom on the first floor?... if it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck......... . In some of the 'establishments' I have been in - high class like this appears to once have been, the girls may have lived upstairs and 'entertain' on the first floor-- there is certainly enough rooms down there. . My guess??... it was once a small exclusive dining club with a discrete clientele. The 'apres dinner' entertainment may have been conducted downstairs. But there was never a large number of customers there at any one time (the size of the eating nook.) Sort of a small family enterprise with a little something extra...... :) . My theory, anyway...lol . Thank you for presenting it !.... ;) . .
@urbexindigo51646 жыл бұрын
I totally agree with the small exclusive dining club Ana! Another viewer had a similar comment of a private club for select clientele where entertaining and dining was the main theme. Explains the exit signs and mirrors. I can imagine a little bar upstairs at the end of the room. :-) Would have been pretty cool to see it in action so to speak haha ;-) Thanks again for your knowledge and comments Ana. :-)

If this wasn't a private home at one time it might have been a B and B. I bet it was really nice when new. Love the round dining area and the pink and black tiling in the bathroom. I wonder why these beautiful places are not restored. Could it be that reno is just too costly? Another great video!
@urbexindigo51646 жыл бұрын
A local Lady wrote in the comments that a gentlemen who owned an elite taxi fleet lived here and stored the taxis here also , the yard is huge and has many car spaces which makes sense. She said this was about 20 years or more ago. That would explain maybe a few of the things. It must have been a B and B too I agree at some point. One of my favorite explores still. :-)

Hey Lea I was able to find out that this was last used as the home base for an elite Taxi service. The owner of the business lived here and had one of the drivers living here too. The large yard was used to store the drivers cars during shifts and the taxis while not in service! Pretty cool! Must have been a upper class home when built in 1955 though. :-)
@leabarto81565 жыл бұрын
I agree, pretty nice when it was first built. That's really cool that it was a taxi service. Glad you were able to find out the history!
