Abandoned- Who was "Leslie"? Did they pass away in this lonely old cottage?

This cottage sits on the down slope of a beautiful country side hill south of Adelaide in South Australia. It has to have been built at least as far back as 1860 and has been adapted to electricity later like a lot of these old homes. From items still left inside it looks as though this cottage was last lived in about 1980.
Interestingly this cottage has no plumbing at all, to taps no bathroom and an outside toilet. There is a creek at the front which must have been their source of water which would have been brought up to the house for bathing and cleaning. This is quite amazing as this would have been still the daily routine right up until 1980 when the owner died or moved out. My guess is that someone who was brought up in this home stayed until their dying days as they were used to the simple ways of living when raised. A card with the name "Leslie" is still in good condition which may be the owner or last resident of this beautiful old lonely cottage.

I really love your style of filming and editing. You take your time and show not only every detail, but have a great talent for showing the overall feel of the setting surrounding it. It was easy to imagine this being quite a charming little place before it fell into disrepair. You have a good eye, and I hope your channel grows, you deserve it!

It's like the old tree reached out to touch it's old friend, the house before it died to try to say "goodbye". You could say this was kind of a sad video , but think of all the happiness that went on there as well with all the lives that spent time in and around that house. I wonder how many children may have been born there & of how many may have passed on. Very nicely filmed. Putting the key in the door was a nice touch. Looks like there was some kind of book right side of the fireplace in the front room. Another great find. Thanks for taking us a long. 💖

Hey Ruth thanks for your support! :-) Yes the old trees next to her are as much a part of her as the old occupants were. I think this home was very much loved by the person or people right up to the very end. I think they spent the final days here probably. I had a sad but also very happy feeling when I left this place. Happy because the people loved it, sad because the people had to leave it :-)

Wow! What an incredible find. Tiny little cottage, appeared to had been 2 rooms originally with an add on to the back? The room in the back that the floor was falling in was that maybe the kitchen at some point since it had a fireplace? Was the wall in front of the cottage just to prevent erosion or part of a porch? Sorry for all the questions, I love old structures, but am unfamiliar with pioneer buildings that you find. I'm in the United States log homes are the primary structures often found beneath the siding of, or part of old farm houses here. Usually 1 or 2 rooms in size. My family (5 generations back) settled in the state that I live in around 1812, however there homes are long gone and even as late as my great grandparents homes there brick and wood structures have been torn down. Thanks for sharing your fantastic explore!

Hey Donelle! :-) Thanks for watching , yes that front concrete block was the front porch support which has now toppled forward. There may have been a wooden part too that has rotted away. I found this by total fluke looking for something else so it turned in to a nice little adventure. Love to get away from the city sometimes and see these really old places. Thanks for sharing that info regarding the early homes in the States, sounds like we here in Australia took the styles from our early European settlers and used stone in preference to wood. Australian soil and especially here in South Australia is renown for reactive clay soils that result in the cracks and separations in the stone walls. :-)

The little shed looked like an outside kitchen and the rafters looked blackened. In the old days they used fuel for lighting . The rod on the mantel, my guess to dry items, to hang food, to hang a cover to stop soot from coming into the room when not in use. If I knew the location, I'd check obituaries and do a bit of investigation. I love doing that.

The Chinaware on the windowsill reminded me of a great Auntie who used odd saucers as plant stands, See an 18th century teacup saucer holding up an African Violet. She was a bit spooky. your dates are correct. re-fitting homes with electricity time-frames vary, but 1905 to 1915 would be a probable date. Enjoyed to see the old place, if you close one eye, you can see it more as it could have been then.

Thank you! the filming was beautiful, especially the last part: so artistic and poetic, nostagic, almost tender. A respectful and touching tribute to this old cottage and its past inhabitants. I wish we had also seen close ups of the patterns on the plates left on the window sill, and the stamp at their back if there was one. Also the pots or jug on the ground of the main room... I wish you had shown us (and of course put them back at they were so as not to disturb anything). I really like looking at old dishes and cups or glasses, and sometimes they have a story to tell. I wonder what's happened to this cottage now after three years. It looked both strong, with the stones, tall walls and wooden doors, but also fragile with all the cracks in the walls and floors. Take good care and stay safe!

This really shows what happens when nature reclaims an old house.... especially in any sort of a humid area. Still, the lonely traces of the former owners are evident everywhere. On thing I have found many times over in similar sites, if their are any, and few personal items-- that may remain in 'picked over' homes-- are the collections of cards- Christmas, birthday, various holidays-- graduations. They seem to endure long after everything else has disappeared. I have pondered this many times.... a sad epilogue all the same. I puzzled over the rod that ran across the top of the front parlour fireplaces mantle. Why was that placed there?... it wasn't original to that surround- it was added-- what was it ? My guess is maybe it was for some sort of screen- to hang a thick cloth as a draft barrier when the fireplace wasn't in use- or maybe as an aid in fire building. In my old cottage in in the UK, we would place a sheet of newspaper across the open heath covering the upper portion to cause an air draft to be drawn thru the soft coal at the bottom of the fire grate. It was a very effective way to start a fire, but you had to be very nimble, not to ignite the newspaper !.... Maybe Leslie's relatives were from the Isles and brought this trick years ago to the new home Down Under.... :) The lack of running water may shock us, but once you get used to hauling water and heating it for infrequent bathing, etc., its quite a simple lifestyle. Those porcelain blocks on the electrical panel looked like the very first-ever fuses--- rewindable elements with certain guage wires depending on the amp ratings-- and if you didn't shut off all the power first- a great way to get a good shock (voice of experience ! ) . Thanks for another neat mystery ! .

Hey Ana! :-) Thanks for stopping bye! The card was indeed in decent shape, would love to know how old it was. I did notice that rod stuck through the mantle also, I was thinking maybe they hung some clothes over it to dry quicker or something lol. The card did have a scottsman palying the bag pipes so you may be write regarding Leslie and their relies. I only notices the lack of taps and plumbing while editing the video! lol I was like wow, they must have relied on the creek or a well which sums up like back in the day!!! :-)

I'm amazed that despite the floors and ceilings being so rotted away, the walls only have minor cracking and are still looking quite straight and solid. It would be a beaut cottage to fix up. The first shed you went into with the old chimney flue hole in the corrugated iron looked like it was the laundry due to the 3 sided concrete structure that most likely held the wood fire heated copper.

I'm guessing this was a small-holding with one or two cows, some chickens and a cottage garden/orchard. The two old fridges out the back may have been used to store excess milk, or they may have been converted into useful insulated cupboards. The piece of equipment was some sort of grain hopper, possible a crusher for bruising oats etc for animal feed.

I didn't find this house sad at all (except that likely the old lady died). The little home seemed so cozy and loved to me. I noticed that the bedroom had a lovely carpet of roses barely visible beneath the debris. With the bed set up and maybe some curtains and a few things. it would have been a pretty and restful bedroom. The setting is so beautiful, with the bridge across the stream in front of the house. I think the kitchen was the room you saw the first fridge in and the two at the back room were kept for extra storage. One may have been used as a fridge and the other may have been used for bread, biscuits etc to keep vermin out of your house. Fridges were air tight so good for storage.

This must have been the cutest cottage EVER! It is to bad it has been left to just crumble. Must have been marvelous at its glory days, for the time it existed, anyway. This home was ready for an elderly person to live comfortably in the older days of life. Often they did keep their family members with them when older as they had no other choice. Having family was important.

Very nice camera work. Very Appropriate music and not too loud. Very interesting find. The trees look even older than the cottage. I noticed several clearly worn foot paths; who has been walking there so much recently? I hate to think of an old lady living there so primitively. The roof must still be holding as the ceilings are holding. Strip it down and there's a sturdy structure to support a renovation of the original part. Maybe a weekend getaway from the city, just to sit and chill.

Hi Virginia thanks for watching :-) Those fresh track are from the cows! hehe, they were up the back of the paddock luckily. :-) They would wander back and fourth from the creek a few times a day probably. Glad they did not see me as cows tend to think all humans are there to feed them and they come running lol . Yes this place was amazing. It had a real feel of many many memories gone by and a simple life! I would love to see someone tackle this and restore it, would be soo good! Thanks again Virginia :-0

Thank you for exploring and showing this once loved home with the respect that it deserves. It is very humbling in this day and age, when many people live with a want-all and throw away lifestyle. It brought to mind a lady named Hannah Hauxwell, who lived on a small family farm in the Yorkshire Dales (UK). She was discovered (in the early 1970s), living as her ancestors had done. You can find her story on YT - Too Long A Winter is the one to start with. Have subscribed and now watched a few of your videos. Looking forward to journeying into the past with you - via YT.

Wow what a busy place. At 1:18 I hear a high pitch female voice say “OPEN”...at 1:29 and 1:32 I did hear also the male voice and female voice. But Even before then at 1:24 you hear “DON’T GO IN THE HOUSE”..😳😳😳😳 At 2:01 you hear a male voice say “I’M STUCK’”😳😳. Female voice from 2: 21 to 2:25 it says “DON’T GO IN THERE” “THEEEREE”...2:32 “NOT THERE”...Interesting house but it is extremely busy. It has tons of residual left behind. It almost seems like they are going along on your exploration. Cool caterpillar at 3:51. At 9:20 when you put the key in a male whispering voice says “NOT IN THERE”...Awesome found. Wonder the history on this place. Love the mantle. ❤️❤️❤️ I love your videos they are so cool. It is awesome that you like exploring and like sharing your videos. Hey Skittles! :-) You are obviously a sensitive to the paranormal as I miss all these things you hear. I do feel sometimes the energy shift in houses and wonder if i`m alone. I definitely believe in the residual energy of past owners being imprinted in the homes they spent so much time in. Urbex Indigo interesting you say I am sensitive. Because I didn’t even know that it was called. Honestly I thought I was going “BONKERS”..one night I woke up like at 2:30 in the morning hearing people talking in my room and even heard a radio playing. I thought I was dreaming since whatever was going on would not quiet down. I put my headphones on and started surfing You Tube and then found the most “AWESOME EXPLORATIONS”. “URBEX INDIGO”....of course 👍👍❤️❤️👏👏👏👏... And believe me I looked at so many videos of different explorers but by FAR yours are 100% the best. I do not know if I am sensitive to the Paranormal stuff but when I am in different places I get overwhelmed with emotions and feelings. At times I feel uneasy and scared. But figured we should fear the living and not the dead. And I am very grounded with my creator...MY HEAVENLY FATHER..I always remember the scripture that says “EVEN THOUGH I WALK THROUGH THE VALLEY OF SHADOW OF DEATH, I FEAR NO EVIL, FOR YOU ARE WITH ME YOUR ROD AND YOUR STAFF... THEY COMFORT ME..Anyhow someone told me it has to do with my blood type being RH -O NEGATIVE. But my mom my dad and 2 brothers are all RH -O NEGATIVE. Guess do not know what it means. I will check out your other channel. I am sure it is “SUPER AWESOME TOO”...Again “THANK YOU” 👍👍👍👍👍👍 for making the most “AWESOME VIDEOS AND EXPLORATIONS” and most of all letting us coming along. YOUR AWESOME..GOD BLESS YOU...👏👏👏👏👏👏

I like how you try to date the house and bring the contents into context. Instead of nostalgia and spectualtion, a brief history of the area or anything else related to the house would be more interesting. Most people doing these videos know very little about construction, architecture or history, so they try to cover their deficiencies with spookyness or nostalgia.

That is what I thought. It was like a kitchen/living room and later another room. This elderly person must have lived off kitchen /living room, and kept' warm with fireplace . Often they would use pots under their beds for at night, and' out houses 'during the day. So probably this was a lady maybe in her later years left alone, after spouse passed? Just doing her best to survive and stay at home. Hopefully family lived near by, or one family member added on a room, and moved in?
