I was an Army brat living in Lincoln Village from 81-86. Nothing but fond memories. Brought a tear to my eye seeing it this way. The youth association was called the DYA at that time. Walking to the Commissary and aafes on base. I even went to the day care by the Officers Club. My dad was with Stars and Stripes. Thank you again for sharing!

Hi, Jen - I worked for AAFES during those years (warehouse and courier) - my dad was the American Red Cross Field Director and my family lived in Jefferson Village on top of the hill. I came to visit them, then got an apartment and stayed... great years, great memories.

I wonder if your dad worked with my mom. She worked for the Stars and Stripes back in those days too when my dad was stationed there. Heck, either myself or my brother most likely was in school with you. Small world. I'm sad to see these bases shut down.

This was one of the best, if not the saddest, video of the place I used to live and work in Germany... the silence was deafening... the lack of human occupation a little ghostly... but a damn good steady cam you have my friend! Excellent job - done with much respect. Thank you.

Wow great memories... I was stationed at 11th Sig around early 90's, also Dj'd at the Rainbow club not to far from rear gate, and used to eat these awesome jaeger schnitzel & pommes frites with the mushroom gravy all the time near the front gate. Thanks for the footage. Salute

Wow! Amazing. I lived here from SEP 03 to AUG 07, assisted in the closure. The video actually walks right up to my building (22nd SIG BDE HQs) and the door I use to enter every day. Then it went up the steps toward JAG and Legal, the steps my Soldiers and I would always hang around and smoke (I since quit). So many memories flooded through me, it's amazing how this little Kaserne is such a big part of my life. Thanks man!

I was stationed at Kelly Barracks 1962-1964 547th Engrs, but worked long hours at both kaserns. I truly enjoyed the time I spent there and really did not want to rotate back to Conus. It was really fun to go to the Grossen Woog and enjoy an afternoon swim and view the local supply of beautiful natives in their bikinis. The people were wonderful and they treated one very well as long as you showed respect for them and their culture. It is so sad to see the kaserns closed up. BTW: A strange thing that I observed in my trip to Germany last fall, No graffiti on any of the closed up kaserns that I visited. One sure as hell can not play that tune on your guitar in good old USA ! And yes, I did observe some graffiti (a minor amount) in some local towns but nothing when compared to the display one is treated to on an empty structure back in the good old USA!

I was stationed here between 1983-1987 and served with A Co. 11th Sig. Bn. as a generator technician with Thomas P. Hines as First Sergent. A Co., I believe, was reassigned and all of us later became a part of HHC 11th Sig. Bn. just before I went back to the states. The opening scene of this video shows the motor-pool where I worked. This video prompted many fond memories of this place and as I look back, I truly enjoyed my time. I made many good friends here which was a real blessing. Thank you for this video.

Sad, so very sad. What was once a live, vibrant home for many young men and women is now a lifeless shell of it's glory days. Long-lasting fond memories is all that remain, and those who cherish those memories are passing on and taking their memories with them. Thanks to all the wonderful German people who befriended me during my tour with the USAFSS 6910th., and to all my many fellow airmen who began our lifetime friendship at this wonderful place. Thanks for the memories. Bob Ferrell Sr. 292X1 (1964-67.)

Lots of memories. I tought I was over this place, but seeing it again has brought a lot of nostalgic and good memories. It makes me sad to see empty and abandoned. I was stationed there, Det. II, 44th Sig. Bn from 1984 to 1988. Our barracks is the building that appears at 0:30 to 0:34 secs of this video. Also the Motorpool where our Comm. Equipment was (TSRT-6) also showing 1:45 to 1:52 time index. Was checking out Darmstadt videos because I might go there next year. That's when I came across this video. Had no idea CFK was abandoned. Thanks for taking the time to film this and sharing it.

This is Tom McCormack. I was in the Air Force stationed on CFK from July 1968 to July 1971. We were the 6910 Security Wing of the Security Service. Our operations and antenna field was outside of Darmstadt. About a 15-20 ride to our operations bldg. I was in Able Flight. A 29252 AFSC. I loved Darmstadt and all of Germany. While stationed there i was able to go to Oktoberfest in Munchen twice. Berlin and Check Point Charlie, Berlin Zoo, the track that Jesse Owens won his medals in the 1936 Olympics. Jimi Hendrix in Frankfort. Deep Purple in London, Grand Prix in Spa, Belgium, 24 Hour Le Mans Race. Anne Frank's hideaway in Amsterdam I could go on and on. In 1999 my wife and I took a bus tour of Germany, Austria, Switzerland & Italy. While on the bus we saw the AN/FLR-9 antenna in Augsburg. Our unit in Darmstadt moved to Augsburg when it was built. I think in the 1970's.

This is a great Vid ... I was stationed at CFK in the 4/92nd MP Co. from 1990-1992 after the 61st MP Co. disbanded in Hanau. I still have contact with a few of my old buddies. They will love it. Thanks for the walk down memory lane.

I spent a year there in 64-65 at V Corps Artillery HQ (S-3). Air Force guys were across the quadrangle. I'm surprised it hasn't been turned into apartments (as they did in Rivers Barracks up in Giessen). Those big buildings were solidly made.

I served in the 32nd Signal Battalion (Corps) n 1960-1961, alternating between CFK and the I. G. Farben Building in Frankfurt. After 57 years away from there, it's strange to again see the familiar shapes. Mostly good memories, and lots of wondering about the men I served with. Thanks for the tour!

Thank you for posting the pictures from the base in Darmstadt. I was stationed there with the 32nd Signal Battalion from November 1957- March 1959. Sorry to see the shape of the base, but as we get older things fall apart. I am sure the fellows that were with the 32nd, at this time, will remember Lt. Lewis. White sidewall haircuts and hill 242. Fond memories.

I was stationed there from 1991 to 1993. I was a legal clerk for Jag. The SJA, LTC Romig ended up becoming the Judge Advocate General and Chief Roberson became the Senior Chief Judge Advocate (I'm still traumatized about spilling a bottle of ink pad ink on the Chief's new carpet - Chief, if you read this - Sorry - Again! :) ). It is fun and sad to see the old building where Jag was, then HHC, 32nd AADCOM and my barracks room was in the middle of the third floor facing the parking lot, looking towards HQ, 32nd AADCOM. It was my first assignment and I was a Private E-1 when I got there. There was a picture of Hitler walking the grounds hanging in one of the hallways when I was there. I see the "motor stables" building! They called it that because it used to be the horse stables for the Germans. And oh - the Rainbow Club (not shown) - many good memories at CFK and Darmstadt. My last tour - where I retired from was in Ansbach, Germany. While I was assigned there, I drove through Ansbach to go look for Dieberg Lake. Darmstadt changed so much - it seemed more like a major city than I remembered it from taking the tram or walking to the clubs downtown. I never did find Dieberg Lake... :). So much changed, to include myself, since I was a Private E-1 spending my puny checks on cd's (newer technology), beer, bier, booze and night clubs, going to clubs in Frankfurt and coming back still drunk at 4 in the morning, going to PT at 0630 and the 1ST would run the beer P!$$ out of the whole formation, which reeked of alcohol! Those were the days where they just ended being able to have a beer or two at the Rod and Gun Club during lunch, the initiation of the Single Soldier's Initiative (now BOSS). We quickly turned our room from a dress-right-dress standards with wool blankes into a room sectioned off by wall lockers and shower curtains and huge stereo racks 4 man with each one having their own cubby hole girls coming in overnight fest. I fell in heat for the General's secretary but apparently so did a lot of other guys and then for a cute little PFC red head from Finance - all due to the Rainbow Club but I was always serious for my high school sweetheart back home, who I married as soon as I came back from Germany (and still going strong). I have many more "professional" memories of the place but what the hell - I was a 19 year old Private who could legally drink and I was in Germany! Prost to all and RIP CFK!

Had to comment in case any other 7th Combat Support Hospital people from '74-75 see this video. I was unbelievably sentimental watching this....something I never thought I'd be as I couldn't wait to come back to the U.S. when I was stationed there. Now, looking back, that 15 months included some of the best times of my life. Thanks so much for taking this.video and sharing it. I've heard the U.S is going to ramp up its presence in Europe again in response to recent Russian actions. So, perhaps K-F will live again. BTW, there are some pretty neat other Darmstadt-Eberstadt videos on KZbin as well. Again, thank you so much for making this video available

AbandonedKansaiVideo, thank you so much for posting. I was station there in 1984 Det II 44th signal. TYC 39's. Right at 1:49 is the small building what was inside our motor pool. I was told there on Janurary 30, 1984 just outside that little building of the death of my brother back home. After all these years, I remember when all the cobble stone was being put down on the streets and the sidewalks. Thank you again.

I was stationed here from July1979- January 1982. CFK - HQ 32nd AADCOM. So many friends! Don Cook (Baltimore), Kerry Landfield (now in Austin, Tx), Jerry Venable (best friend-would love to find him again-he was stationed at the smaller Kaserne in Darmstadt, not Kelly Barracks, the other one I think), Geraldine Hulvey (now in Detroit), Tony Vito (Chicago), Jeff Burroughs (Florida), Casey, Chuck (Idaho), WOODY! Where is everyone? It was a "permanent party". The concerts in Germany were AMAZING! I saw Led Zeppelin, Heart, Foreigner, Journey, Kansas, Pink Floyd, Styx, ZZ Top, Little River Band, 38 Special, Lynyrd Skynyrd (3 day concert up at Lorelei Rock-sweet!), on and on and on! Great beer, better times...thank you Germany!
