Get ready for the most epic project of 2025! I'm taking a iconic DeLorean and transforming it into a beastly V6 twin turbo Tesla hybrid! This is going to be a wild ride, full of twists and turns, as we push the limits of what's possible. From the drawing board to the garage, I'll be sharing every step of the process, from the engine swap to the electrical system overhaul. def AWD but hybrid seems such a compromise. I know EV DeLoreans have been done, but given the EV history of the channel, a Full EV that can handle 1.21 Gigawatts would be cool! Not that it's any of my business. Great to see Tim involved. He was on the Tesla swapped C10 and other STS projects. Does really cool stuff.

Being built in Belfast 1690 more likely refers to the battle of the Boyne and King Billy rather than its chasis number.

Deloreans have been my dream car ever since watching bttf as a kid. Next to impossible to find in Aus and stupidly overpriced but I've always wanted to build one with a supercharged Buick V6 and Porsche 6spd as a restomod with more power and that sweet s/c whine. Ever since EVs have become more practical and powerful my dream garage would include rebodying the Delorean over a model 3 chassis. I will forever be jealous how easily and cheap a Delorean can be found in the US

I'm sure there's room for some Arrival van parts in there ;-) Great project looking forwards to seeing this progressed, although pure EV would be nice (& very much in your wheelhouse) I can see why hybrid is a decent option.

The PRV 2.5 V6 Turbo from a Alpine GTA V6 Turbo drops right in. Or you can use a 3.0 V6 24v PRV from the last Peugeot 605. The UN1 gearbox is a lovely box, im going to say its one of the best manuals ive ever driven. The gearchanges are so slick. Originally from a Renault 30 2.7 V6, but then later used by lots of manufacturers inc Lotus.

I've been wanting to do a V6 plug in hybrid using GS450 running gear. Will be interesting to see how you get on with this in terms of electronics/system management.

Hybrid would be such a waste of time and money, especially with the advancement in battery technology. You're carrying extra weight whichever mode you're driving in. If you want the sound get a speaker

The plan is to draw in the ICE audience by doing a hybrid would help bring them across to all ev. There is also going to be a awd Tesla based build starting next year based on a ve transporter t5/6 van

@@Hazell_Nutz yeah I understand what you're trying to do, but it wont work because the mainstream media keeps pumping out the FUD. You need to educate and show that BEVs are the better choice both financially and environmentally. Hybrids will always be a compromise and are the worst of both worlds, not the best. BEV technology improves on an almost monthly basis, energy density, motor efficiency, moving to 48v etc, etc. I wish you well with the project, but doubt it sway anyone

Hybrid is a way to go. I have a project that might end up in a youtube someday. Currently figuring it out in the cad. I am interested in how you will control it. I have some ideas myself but would be interesting to see how you will solve it. Also how much kwh have you planned to use in the car? Most likely you need to modify tesla model3 front suspension to some sort pushrod setup if you want to use it in this car. Or you need to make a mixture of different parts from different cars to make it work in your design . I can say that my design has also tesla motor in the front.

It will probably be a model s sdu as I can use an AEM vcu to control it which give me a lot of options then mix with one of Holleys engines vcu’s as AEM is owned by Holley there is a lot of cross over/ support to make them play nice. Probably have to do a custom front end. kWh wise will probably be a 20kWh pack from a hybrid.

I'm in the middle of building a turbodiesel plugin hybrid Tundra, and I support you in your quest. Wait, so a twin turbocharged Honda V6, like from a hybrid Accord? Parallel hybrid so you can mount the engine longitudinal, use a Porsche transaxle, and use the Honda pancake motor for start/stop, charging and rev matching for shifting... Mechanically that's quite straightforward but I don't know how you'll tie the Tesla controller to the Honda controller, let alone control Honda engine to rev match, and to have any control at all over the front/rear torque proportion (I'm not saying it couldn't be done, but that's likely a custom controller, custom FW). I was originally going to build my hybrid using Honda hybrid components and I abandoned that when I learned about Toyota hybrid system. Luckily, the Toyota V6 hybrids are very stout. Both the 2GR-FE/FSE V6 and the eCVT. The inverter control has been reverse engineered on various models, so that portion saves some work. There is even an open source board (openinverter zombieverter) available that COULD control a gas engine (throttle, ignition power). The downfall of those powertrains for this project is they're transverse mounted, which is less sexy than longitudinal (the longitudinal version in GS450h & LS600h are front engine RWD).

I'd love to see it. A Model 3 front end with regen braking and the V6 in the rear, a small battery mostly for regen, nice! 👍💪✌

Ls swap it or if you can get your hands on one "if you ask weston nicely hed probably ask LUXIFER if he can source one" but green top BARRA swap it. The barra came in bunch of different iterations and the green tops were dedicated gas (LPG) So ford australia way over built them with forged internals, crank, higher compression ratio ect ext, you cann convert them back to petrol very easily, boost it and get a safe 750-800hp. Think of them as the rb and 2j's bigger brother. 4L can be stroked out to 4.3 nicely but whats better is destroking them to 3.8L and getting 9krpm So much you can do with just straight off the shelf parts here in aus, you have the edge of the exchange rate, its just freight... Do it!

If u wanna do AWD just take a carrera 4 Trans or if u wanna spice it up make it a PDK AWD but pls no Tesla motor

Doing ev only is definitely an easier option. This hybrid build will be hard as will be using a clever gearbox that will rev match.

@ my idea of a hybrid conversion would be the easy way out. Just put an outlander drivetrain in my Syncro 🤣. All those a3 GTE gearboxes s-tronic seem to fail..

How about a supercharged V6? That’d sound great! I’d ditch the electric front motor, but do the front subframe mod for the handling.

I do like the idea of super charger, plan is to build for SEMA 2026 so twin turbo just looks better and the ev front end help blend both technologies together
