My brother and Auntie both worked in Abu Dhabi for a long long time.I saw picture after picture of exotics abandoned in the desert. Typical repeated stories , rich oil Shaikh or his kid buy the car, ran it until it had a puncture or ran out of fuel and so just left it on the side of the road. I remember a gold Countach LP500S , a Pink (?!) De Lorean and tons more just sitting covered in sand.

@@Ratarossa To be honest Erbilis ok-ish but I would not be going there unless you have a very trust worthy contact out there and a security detail....I cover this whole region for work and the very large majority of the folk there are absolutely mint but is like 20-30k from ISIS territory and you would just vanish if you went out there with a bag of cash and strayed into the wrong parts.

there is probably a ferrari broker or two who knows who owns it, but they know the extensive repairs will turn off 99% of all potential realistic buyers. there isnt many people who would want to pay a 400k car that requires another 200-400k to be overhauled, on top of that having non original parts, bodywork, or reconditioning are major turn offs for major collectors and investors

Just saw the video about the F40 LM replica with the 4.0 V8 Lexus/Toyota engine, the actual owner leaved a comment on that video and he said he built another two units for 2 customers in the early 2000s. One it's supposed to be in England and one in South Africa.

The reason it's missing parts, is because they've been stolen. The steering wheel being the most obvious. It would make a good parts car for the normal guy, but it will take a multi millionaire to restore that car back to it's former glory. I don't consider a replica F40 shell with a Toyota engine in a Ferrari. You may as well drive a "Ferino" Celica kit car. However, I know you'll go all in if you decide to do this Scott and I wish you all the luck in the world ! Dreams are worth chasing, as long as they don't become your nightmare.

If there is a car that symbolizes Ferrari in my mind, what Ferrari is all about, is the F-40. The mother of all "track day" cars, as it was a "road car" which was made with the track in mind. Ferrari went well ahead of everyone, with the F-40. Absolutely fantastic. Absolutely gorgeous also. I do hope that the (happy) owners of F-40s keep them in great shape, for posterity. A hundred years from now on, this car should still shine and show what it was all about in the 80's. What a sportscar was meant to be.

I'm here in New Zealand & am a bit of a fan of the Steve Cox S40 Silhouette is a great option, because it can be driven hard, customized gilt free & none of the drawbacks of something that is too precious to drive in anger. Plus the bonus of Toyota reliability 👍

I was 16 when they were new and Foreign Cars Italia in Greensboro, NC got one. I drove by to look at it at least once a week. But seeing my first 308 when a kid got dropped off from one at soccer practice when I was 9 is still the most thrilling car sighting of my life, and I was blown away when my dad told me it cost $45,000. For me, the models from the Dino to the F355 comprise the most beautiful cars ever. I wish that I would have chosen your path in life. At very minimum I would have an F355 now, like someone I know who did, and does.

Well if not there still is another solution or great opportunity : associate with Davide Cironi (he is an Italian) with great passion for cars mostly Italians, the thing is he also worked previously in an AutoNews back as teenager and has meet and also did interview on youtube all the important people that worked on some of the best brands to create some of the most amazing cars : H.Paganni, Stanzani, N.Materazzi, L.Biocchi.. etc So, being passion Cironi brought a Countach body replica and properly build it to be a street usable perfection replica of Countach.. Now in my opinion since these dudes both want the same thing, first should know each other and talk a bit to convince the engineers behind F40 - N.Materazzi to help them out to source other options.. Anyway is just an cool idea for any option Scott will choose : Good Luck for re-building an F40 !!!

@@madmike6942 I agree with you as I see myself some in many youtube footages but how many of them were impounded or collecting huge amount of debts for some parking taxes or other taxes that the owner do not care/or don't want to pay and the future owner is forced to pay all of them and on top of those taxes another many other taxes over boarders, shipping, rent a container, insurance is a big mess there.. and since the car was impounded as it is most certainly it has no key, no owning papers, insurance expired, no mot technic inspection certification for maintaining services checking no titles nothing but the car as it is abandoned and many many many taxes..

Actually they kept them all in a 40 something floor high rise car park. Unfortunately a few small fires broke out on the lower level floors causing the entire building to collapse at freefall speed into its own footrpint. Shame.

1300 F40s made, many are non runners, crashed, burnt, some still loved and treasured, most bought as investments by speculators because restoration/repair costs stay the same, but the value of a crashed F40 goes up as much as a fixed one, dramatically increasing the rate of return to an investor. No need to service a wreck either! This WAS why no crashed F40s have been available for a few years. Now though, as supercar prices fall, F40 project values are falling by higher %ages, investors have to jump ship and pay back their loans now or they will go busto. Save up, sell that nice house, live in a cheap industrial unit say Wembley or Harrow. Rebuild a genuine F40 fallen angel as an F40LM. 360 Stradale style, as only Ratarossa knows how...

All access to all the cars, and its actually a race up Rod Millen's {Rhys Millens Dad - ex international rally driver etc} private driveway. There are an awful lot of people commenting who are cery negative and discouraging which is a shame, howeverI will ad my own word of caution, I was watching Harry's Garage the other day and he said that, sadly, driving an F40 was a bit like meeting your hero and finding he is a tosser! The F40 is the only ferrari my dad has ever driven. He was at a dealer with his friend in the 90s and they were able to take it out for a spin. He says it was such an incredible car to drive and hear.

i have been around after it for 3 years now, i live in slemani near Erbil(last seen), the car got owned now illegally by a government man, i believe it went Baghdad now for repairs, it doesnt have a title and its seized money by the government, therefore exporting it outside the country will get you in problems with Interpol

I work as a security contractor in Iraq. I've seen a lot of abandoned exotic cars but never this F-40. Your best bet is to post those pictures on security contractor forums and speak to vets who served in Iraq . I'm sure someone who's been there since the start of the war has seen it and knows where it is. Good Luck.
