Kornél Farkas or a great place for homeless population to make a fresh start with some govt help!! Although paintball would be 🔥!
@mcearl80735 жыл бұрын
Rebekah Smith How do you think that would work? The government would have to spend millions and millions rehabbing an entire town, then they’d bus thousands of homeless people to live in these camps that are very far from civilization. Then where would they get food, medicine and everything else they’d need to be self sufficient? They wouldn’t? So the government would then need to ship supplies in to them non stop so they’d never get independence again. Crime would go through the roof as gangs move in to fill the drug needs. No businesses will move in there, or very few. And then before long most of the houses would be damaged and all fucked up anyway. The homeless would not have any access to the general public so panhandling would be out of the equation and a high percentage of homeless have drug and alcohol issues and they wouldn’t be able to get any money for their habit so they’d start stripping anything they can from the houses and buildings. What I’d be ok with is rounding up all the homeless that would be willing to work for their new place, bus them out to the town with a load of basic supplies where they could essentially build a shack to live in. Then have weekly shuttles where they can go get supplies with their welfare cards/food stamps or whatever. It would be rough living but they can be somewhat self sufficient and not living on the street. Some ambitious ones could start a permafarm kind of thing or set up their own solar. Of course that place pretty much already exists at slab city and most homeless won’t want to be pulled from their ways of getting money and drugs but I’m all for places like that where people can go and check out of the world pretty much. The sad part is we let our own citizens sleep on the street while illegal aliens come in and get put up with 3 hits and a cot in those camps and people complain that that’s not good enough for them, it’s a hell of a lot better than literally sleeping in a box on skid row with no access to a bathroom or meals or really anything. LA can’t even put a porta-potty in skid row without it being taken over by the gangs who try to charge people to use it

Was pretty much sure that you were talking about Eagle Mountain. I was unaware of the town, but being a railfan, I have long been aware of the mine being shut down and the railroad abandonment. Why this has not been put to re- use considering the housing issue? I imagine it is because it is not up to code. I have seen this in other areas of California, when the military or federal government moved out, and left the land to local government reuse. Hard to believe that there are areas in much more populated parts of the state that sit abandoned, when the demand for, and lack of, housing seems obvious.

Ok guys if you like the ghost towns, abandoned towns and things if that nature, then California is a gold mind of places, I got a few that you could probably check out, first off, there is an abandoned section of L.A. kinda stuffed in-between the old 6th street viaduct now almost rebuilt, and the 3rd street viaduct, you can only get to it from the L.A. river access tunnels(access underneath the viaducts and under the downtown interchange), this place is an old industrial complex full of old shops, forges, repair facilities, etc... And it's basicly an island, the Arroyo Secco is on one side and L.A. river on the other, they use it to film apocalyptic stuff now days, next in the Bay Area are a couple of great sites, 2 have been featured on Discovery channels Myth busters, the first is the former Navel Marine Base Officers with families housing area, if you watched Myth busters and you saw the run from police using getaway gadgets like smoke screens, oil slicks, etc. Then you've seen this place, it's on the Alameda island, it's a former base housing that's fenced off right next door to the Oakland port/shipyards, it's got done hills and probably about 500 abandoned homes, cool place to checkout, next up in the Bay Area is in Richmond, although I wouldn't go there cause Richmond is dangerous, there is more former military base living you can find it on Google maps really easy and even the wiki for Richmond, CA mentions the area, now if you drive north out San Francisco on the 101 there is a town, I can't remember the name but it never north past Mill Valley and Novato on your way to Santa Rosa, the town is for sale, the whole thing, 18 homes, a store, gas station, hotel, etc... It's been for sale for years, asking price is like $5.25mil, if you want a town in some redwoods with one fourway stop no traffic lights and no residents, lmmfao, there's a ghost fleet of American war and merchant ships parked just if the coast of Mare Island(abandoned Navel logistics ship yard) in Vallejo, CA and there are many more treasures

I used to live by here. It's an Abandoned Air Force Base (George AFB, Ca.) Can't see why they didn't just drive through the front gate like everyone else. Running and hiding from people driving in to see the old base. Hope these guys did there research, last I read was the EPA will be cleaning this place till the year 2077. Something about toxic contamination or radiation.
@patpeterson26712 жыл бұрын
That is what they say ........ could be as simple as California is running out of fresh water at an alarming rate ...... and they are saying toxic contamination or radiation as the reason ...... I don't believe anything officials and the POS government and President says anymore

In as much this”town” is literally in the middle of nowhere there’s not much to attract homeless. No towns or cities nearby and once the mining company closed down the mine they also closed down the company owned town. No food, little to no water and electric, no public transportation, etc. Homeless better off in a major city.

Although I had previously never believed in ghosts, for over a year I lived in a house located at 2250 South Street in Beaumont, TX, a charming cottage with nothing creepy about it, but which was "haunted" by the spirit of an old woman I referred as "Felicity" The atmosphere was spooky during the first week; I first felt hostility but then starting talking to the house, explaining (out loud) my need for housing, how much I liked and respected the house, and I promised to keep it clean and to be respectful of her. I also talked about how the landlord used the house as rental property, and that if I was not welcome, keep up the hostility and I would move out, then my replacement may not enjoy the house (and its "occupant"). As I talked, the environment gradually went for hostile to warm and welcoming. Although I never said anything to my young sons, when they visited. When they told me one day that "there was something living in the house" I told them about Felicity, and said nothing but good things about her. With them present, I again "talked to the house" and explained to her that they were my sons -- part of my family -- and that they would only be visiting every couple of weeks, then repeated the prospect of my leaving. Again she relented. Over the following year I shared a home with a ghost. I kept my end of the bargain and enjoyed the unseen, but sensed, company of an incredibly wonderful "roommate". I never felt as though my sons and I were alone, and when after taking business trips, I would return to a welcoming home that felt lived-in and occupied. I came to love and enjoy my unseen roommate, and when work required that I move to Houston, I experienced a profound sense of loss. Whenever I have an occasion to revisit Beaumont, I always stop by 2250 South Street and speak a few comforting words to the house and my dear ghostly friend. I am now in my mid-seventies and my son's are now parents of adult children, but the three of us sometimes speak of Felicity. One day in the (hopefully distant) future I hope I will be able to meet her face to face and enjoy her company for the remainder of eternity.

Eagle Mountain iron mine] As the mine expanded, Eagle Mountain grew to a peak population of 4000. It had wide, landscaped streets lined with over four hundred homes, some with as many as four bedrooms. Two hundred trailer spaces and several boarding houses and dormitories provided living space for Kaiser's itinerant workforce. Other amenities included an auditorium, a park, a shopping center, a community swimming pool, lighted tennis courts, and a baseball diamond. Businesses included a bowling alley, two gas stations, eight churches and three schools. environmental concerns in the 1970s led to a reduction in iron output and a drop in population to a low of 1980. In the summer of 1980 the mine shut down briefly, reopening on September 23. Only 750 workers were brought back to the town with an additional 150 (with uncertain employment futures) The population dwindled as layoffs began. The grocery store closed in October 1982 and the post office, which had been active since 1951, closed in 1983. In June of that year the last official graduating class celebrated their commencement at Eagle Mountain High School, followed by closing of both the mine and mill. The old high school is now the current site of Eagle Mountain Elementary Schoo] which continues in operation (as of 2019
