This week's episode is a tragic story about twin sisters who lost both their mother and father before the age of 15. They lived high up in the North of Portugal in a home designed for poor people. When they were born their mother died while giving birth and their father was left alone to provide and bring up these kids. He did his very best to them a nice life and he did not disappoint. The home is filled with beautiful memories of their time when they were young. The sisters even got the privilege with support from their father and from the government to go study abroad. Come with us on this incredible adventure X Lesley and Jordy X

That is very expensive furniture. Not everyone had television in Europe in the 1950s for a variety of reasons. These people were not poor for the time. There were huge families living in 400 square foot slum apartments in Western Europe until the 1970s!

At 10:06 you commented that it looked like there were some women’s clothes left in what looked like the fathers room ~ it’s very possible that he just couldn’t part with his wife’s clothing. My dad passed 3 years ago and my mother still can’t part with my fathers clothing. She has even moved to a new home, and she still hung all his clothes up next to hers in the closet.

If this home had been abandoned in North America, it would be completely spray-painted, looted, and destroyed by vandals. So nice to see this home was respected and left as the owners had left it. Very beautiful home and great video.

I agree with the comment below. This young man (Leslie,I think is his name) shows the utmost respect for the memories of the people who have left their homes abandoned. I like the way he always keeps his voice in a hushed tone, as if he were in a sacred place and how if he does move something to get a better look at it, he always puts it back where it was. I really enjoy seeing the videos the brothers show us.

True... Also after that family all left, there could have been another family living there. Since the photos were in color, I suspect the photos were from another family. Another family member. Then some of that family took what they wanted out of the cupboards and closets and left. More than likely the house was too big to pay for the upkeep.

Most likely it's the usual story , a sizeable land tax/rates debt owed to the local council which any heirs figure as making the property a losing concern & with the $ needed to renovate etc. . so eventually some crooked crony of the council will eventual acquire the property for peanuts & develop & subdivide & make millions

Husband and wife work so hard, built this amazing house and live such a great life. It's sad that everything is just abandoned after his death. I'm sure he'd have never thought that. That house was built very well! It’s held up amazingly well . Goes to show you that the homes built commercially just don’t cut it as they fall apart much more quickly. The structure here looks sound . Didn’t see any roof collapse or damaged floor boards . No cracks in walls. That man did an excellent job on this beautiful home . Too bad it wasn’t worth anything after he passed . Another video very well done !! Thanks 😊

@@BrosOfDecay it's probably not people, but time. Rodents or other small animals can do a lot of damage as well. Just as the structure itself is deteriorating so are the things within it. Most people who explore abandoned homes follow the unwritten rule that things are to be left as you found fhen. It's not only morally wrong to take things but many believe that it brings bad luck. At least where I come from. I personally think that the damage appears to be what is expected after 30 plus years. And I do not think that the family was as poor as you say. The home appears to be well built and quite spacious for it's time and the furnishings and clothing are of good quality even if they aren't the best. In those days the average family did not have large entryways and poor families did not have formal dining rooms. The kitchen itself is fairly large. And the washing area that you saw was actually quite sophisticated for a home that lacked indoor plumbing.

Yes it would be nice if some of these videos were followed up with a little history of the families who lived there. Usually there are places maybe local libraries or somewhere you could get information on the area and the history of those who lived in these towns. I have seen him come across photos, names and other items left behind that would be a good start. It leaves many of us wondering why so many of these people left their personal possessions, houses, land and memories behind.

You breathe life into every place you explore, love your humility and expressiveness and compassion. It's not what we look at sometimes, it's what we see - and time and again you transform something that is 'literally' decaying and restore it back to its former glory and keep memories alive that would otherwise have never been discovered or even lost. Stay blessed and thank you.

It's the Dutch speaker Belgian guy. I really like this guy: he is very soft-spoken, very calm and very interested in learning about history through old heritage and abandoned sites. He must be someone great to talk to and have a cup of coffee/ tea or a glass of wine together. All the best

Thank you guys! Loved the explore. The history was indeed tragic, but it looks like it had been a happy home for both girls. They had quite a few antiques. The "wood worms" are called TERMITES and they devour furniture, floors and beams inside the houses. Seem they are usually in warm climates. Thank you for another great explore. Makes staying indoors more exciting with new episodes coming!. Stay well.
