Teachable moment. They completely replaced the floor because it was rotted out. However, did not address root cause, which is moisture buildup beneath the floor. They build a 5 sided box, with the 6th side just dirt. There's no ventilation, vapor barrier, or treatment. And, the sides of the box are brick, which is porous and lets in more moisture. You can see in the "new sub-floor" section of the video, the dirt is already moist inside the structure. Also, at the 0:39 mark you can see the broken floor joist. It has signs of bug damage. If they didn't spray anything to address this, the new wood they installed will get infected, even with removing the old wood. Years from now the floor will rot out again. Very cool build but this one thing can cause a lot of problems later.
@dingeldiy Жыл бұрын
Hello Yes your logic makes sense This house does have ventilation to the sub floor as required. The cause of the rot was termites not moisture The termites have been treated and concrete stumps and ant caps were used. I can guarantee you the floor will last a lifetime or even 10

I wish i had more knowledge on the subject. Things can always be tuned and dialed in with the aid of a dyno and software. The ECU definitely plays a part on the newer more electronic versions of the 1kz pump. You can always clock the pump bit by bit and test drive the car to see how it effects things

@dingeldiy2 жыл бұрын
absolutely not! Heaps of the framework, brick work, roofing and windows were fine to use along with many other things
@therealtamiec2 жыл бұрын
I think not cause that brick work alone would cost more than arms & legs
@janskovgaard8906 Жыл бұрын
Here in Denmark , it is the cheapest to tear down and build up new. Mainly because of tons of regulations , there is also lots of things that you - by law - is restricted from by DIY. If you are a craftsman , able to do a lot by yourself ( and family / friends ) , you can renovate and get a cheap house. And an old house can have a lot of soul , that NO new house has , and NO money can buy that. In Denmark we build brick houses , and old can have realy nice bricklaying work , with lots and lots of beatifull details. Those bricklaying details would be very very costly implementing in a new house.

Renovation looks great. Not a fan of the tile combination though in the shower area, I would have used the same tile thru out. Or I would have used something flashy likes gold, silver or stainless looking tiles or just some simple bright prime colors painted on stucco. I’m commenting on it because I was really thinking for a while that the smaller tiles looked as if it was part of the before renovation.

@dingeldiy10 ай бұрын
Plenty of information if you watch the build series, there are 12 or so episodes that take you through the renovation week by week. Roof was redone because we removed load bearing walls. We installed roof trusses to span from one external wall to another which also meant we could have a raked feature ceiling on the inside all while being able to reuse the old tin roofing.

Bricks dont need as much maintenance and some parts of the house were solid brick. it would have been a costly exercise when the money can be better spent elsewhere. Brick homes are very common in Oz and most people here have no issue with them
