My husband does all the same work that you perform so very well. He was a block mason in his teens, carpenter in his 20s, and commercial building contractor till 50s when he had enough Florida sun and became a county building inspector. Still does the occasional remodel. Love what you do. Takes lots of skill, experience, and hard work to be competent in mechanicals and good construction practices. Not many who are good like you. Only suggestion is we started doing counter tops in the same tile as bath floor. He builds to tops in marine plywood, seals then frames the top either painted or stained to match cabinets. Then sets tile on top with tiny grout lines. These counters last for decades longer than laminate. Also we like Hardie board for exteriors. Vinyl can leave in hurricanes😱.

This was an absolute pleasure to watch. I restore cars and this is like, the literal house version of that which I love. Interesting to watch, you're funny when it's warranted but you don't do it in a way that seems forced, and you turned a ~$5K decrepit shack into something I'd move in to TODAY. Well done all around, man. Thanks for sharing this.

Thanks! That’s the analogy I use when people ask me what I do for a hobby. I tell them it’s extreme home remodeling, some people rebuild cars … I rebuild houses!

My grandpa was a builder, and built many of the homes in our town. Watching this reminded me of him and his many talents! He helped many families over the years with safe, affordable housing. This is truly using your gift to help others, great work ❤️

HAHA .. you would certainly not be the first to say that. I've often wondered how long it would be before someone on KZbin would make that comparison. It seems the answer is 552 days. Thanks for the chuckle and thanks for watching!

@RehabLife4 жыл бұрын
I am hoping it doesn't take 12 months either! But, as there are things beyond my control, you can never know for sure. It is moving along much faster than this project though. I'm hoping for a 3 - 4 month completion. But oh what will I do then? You know I already have plans :-)

First of all, thank you for making this video. I had no idea of the amount of work needed to rehab a home. This is a way to provide a good living for your family, and for the next generation. Not be at the mercy of a company that might fold. You must sleep well at night, from your hard work, and from the security you have earned for your loved ones!
@RehabLife3 жыл бұрын
@Toni Y thank you for watching! HGTV and others tends to give people a sugar coated idea of what is involved. They focus on eye candy instead of a functional, well thought out and affordable home. Most folks watching those shows just see them and see “pretty”. Folks who do what I do, know the real work needed to revitalize a property. Only a few people would ever attempt this. For better or worse, I am one of the few. Oh, just to be clear, this is a weekend gig and I work a full time job. In fact I have little time for sleep. I usually get to bed between 1-2am and usually get back at it between 6-7am 7 days a week. But it’s not work if you love it! I love it!

We use to call those dumpsters "magical"....they fill up the next day with someone else's debris!! No wonder some have locks on them.
@RehabLife3 жыл бұрын
Yep, it happens ... I caught someone putting trash in one once and he was genuinely surprised that I cared. When this goes to the landfill and there is household garbage in it, I can get a huge fine and triple dump fees. Thank you so much for thinking of the environment and picking up trash, now kindly reimburse me for the $1750 you cost me by throwing your household trash into my construction debris dumpster!
