Did the right thing and just drove it for years. Finally the plastic timing gear broke so I refreshed it with rings and bearings. Found the knock. It was a rod bearing. Had to laugh a it came on slow and I thought, it couldn't be a rod. Tough engine. Wife got another car and the kids beat the piss out of it for 2 more years until the daughter drove it after the oil pump decide it was done pumping. Metal flake oil. To the scrapyard it went.
