The trouble for Angel Road was passenger numbers..up until the early 90's, there was a lot of industry in the area. In the 60's, 70's 80's until the early 90's there were many big employers in the area, but as many downsized or moved to new areas the passenger numbers dropped. ..Also the rise in car ownership made a huge difference too. The widening of the A406 didn't help as it isolated the station, and the configuration of entry and exit to the station was strange and long winded. The new station Meridan Water is built on the other side of the A406 where there are new housing being built on the site of a electronics company and access to the station is a lot easier and safer than Angle Road Station.

Same kind of story as Brightside and Angel road in South Yorkshire I suppose, communities it was built to serve jsut vamished as de-industriallisation occured leaving both station virtually useless as everyone had a car by then.
