the numbers could indicate a controlled evacuation. after huricane katrina hit Louisiana, once the water lvls went down they had to search each home for survivors or bodies. once they cleared a home it was marked with #s and X's so others would know it was clear.

I agree With that statement, I've been apart of evacuations, after we cleared a house we had to mark it with a control number in RED spray paint after that we also went through and place red plastic placecards on the outside by the front door of the houses with a white "X" stating that it was unsafe and vacant... When a large area like this has been abandoned, it's usually due to some ecological disaster. The numbers on the houses were probably put there by people that were evacuating the the area. As each house was cleared, it was numbered. Picher Oklahoma about 90 miles from me is that way. The government bought everyone out at fair market value.

That's probably not why they abandoned it. Most places like this are abandoned because of things like contaminated water or soil, or possibly even a disease going around. The murderer thing does sound interesting though so try and post a link to the article.

After Disasters a lot of the time, the spray paint the number of people they find in the house... usually number dead. Sometimes it's an X with 3 numbers (number dead/alive/injured.)

Abandoned buildings are marked so Firefighters know when they see those X's that you do not go into that building under any circumstances. A sign with a plain red square tells firefighters the building is condemned but safe to enter. A sign with a square and half an "X" means it is safe to enter but there are hazards inside, such as broken glass. The signs aren't just for firefighters. They are supposed to deter homeless people and others from entering unsafe buildings.

Never thought of that, but I agree completely, buuut I Was planning on going to an abandoned oil-water tower and underneath was a bunker - absolutely amazing find! - but all the contents from the tower drained into the bunker and if we went down there unaware we would have gotten very sick. I like your style guys, the way you film and document is really good. A lot of comments below dont seem to say too much on how well you do this kind of stuff but i just wanted to let you know that its well done without all the bullshit that most just cant help themselves to put in. You obviously do a lot of travel and research and by the looks of it, use top quality cameras. That is where most of the credit is due, other than the fact you do it in a respectful, but interesting way. I would like to see a video on how you prepare for such an event, that would be just as interesting, sort of a behind the scenes doco. Damm, i wish i could be there with you, having nearly 40 years of filming experience, i have not filmed anything remotely as interesting as you have. Dont spoil it, keep yourself honest and the bullshit left out. Thats what makes the difference.
