The porches where paint haint blue . The reasons where to keep haunts away , and it was supposed to keep insects away, (the paint had lye in it as a component, acted as insect repellent). The light blue would act as sky and insects where less likely to build nest . The color even reflected light at nighttime . Porches painted like this where usually coastal towns .

I live in Charleston, S.C. and see blue painted alot on the ceilings on the older homes.. We want to paint our porch blue to keep the insects away, but have not gotten around to it..heard its especially helps with spiders!!

This is my dream home. I love Victorian homes. They have so much personality. With the "pocket doors" (sliding doors), the "claw foot tubs", (beautiful bathtubs), the armoire (dresser), the "dropleaf table", (upside down on floor), the intricate woodwork, huge rooms, amazing architecture. Beautiful old house. The black tub is actually for outdoors to make a fountain pond or koi pond. The "windows" above the doors are actually transom doors for air flow when the room doors are shut. That is also why there were many windows in old homes for cross ventilation especially during the warm months (now a days we call them hotter months) 😉😁

Very Beautiful mansion! The southern states have many beautiful homes. I am from the south. In my state people have went as far as having those beautiful homes moved before allowing them to be demolished. One crosses my mind in particular but as soon as it was moved the new owner began renovations, restoring it back to its former beauty. It costed more to have it moved than the actual house was purchased for. But everytime I see it, a huge smile comes across my face. It was kind of my childhood fantasy home. Loved the video. Singer sewing machine with cabinet could be anywhere from $100 - $700. It really depends on the mold, year and condition. My grandma had one. When she passed we sold it to a collector for $600. That was 42 years ago. They really are beautiful.

My grandmother had to old sewing machines, singers, one looked just like that one that had to be used manually and it was pump controlled with the foot pumping not a pedal so to speak but more like a teetertotter type petal attached underneath. the other was electric and got $1000 for it, but the for both of them she got almost a 1/4 million dollars. Some of those are worth a lot of money by chance finding the right collector. Amazing and stunning. And your right nothing is made like the old days. Things back then were built to last and it took a lot longer to build back then vs now. Nowadays it's not about quality it's about quantity and the old mighty dollar.

The blue ceilings above the porch are a Southern thing for sure. My great grandmother's house had them. She told me it's the color of the heavens and keeps bad spirits away....she also used brick dust but that's a different story🌻 Keep up the great work and travel safe!

everything in the house is absolutely beautiful, loved the wood work, window, pocket doors all though they can be hard to open and close because they swell with the moisture. Those tubs are called slipper Claw tubs, or claw tubs for short, the other tubs like that have a ring base it sits on that can be up graded with the claw feet, if you look at the claws, some are eagles claws, lion's paw's etc. these tubs are cast Iron all the way through with a porcelain finish, I love these old tubs and sinks, I have an original in my house, the old toilets are cool some have the tank that is attached up by the ceiling and has a long pipe to the bowel and a chain you pull to flush it, it's just a little bit of a pain in the butt to have to climb up there if something hangs up or needs to be fixed. the stair case case is gorgeous, I loved seeing the whole house thank you for sharing

What a treat this was to watch. I live in an old home built in the 1800s in Minnesota, not nearly as cool as that one, but it truly takes you to another time when you move through it. They are all so unique unlike the cookie cutter houses built now. Would have loved to see it from the outside a bit more, but I do understand the need to keep it unknown. Thank you for showing this. I'm sure due to age, the original fireplaces were no longer safe to be used as intended. Fireplaces and the fabulous penetrating heat they produce, are a favorite of mine. The fret work on the porch is amazing especially the sunburst over the doorway. Glad the stained glass is still intact. It would have been nice if they had left the kitchen as close to original as possible and maybe hide the appliances and a sink made for that time period. Years ago the antique dressers and harp back chair would have been worth something, today no one wants antiques and they are hard to sell. ☹ Thank you for not posting where these homes are located. I saw the other day a beautiful well kept victorian that was on the market for sale had been robbed of all the architectural pieces. It had to have been someone who viewed the home then planned because they removed several huge double doors like those and all the stained glass/stained glass transoms.

The singer peddle machine to the right person is worth some money . The machine is all metal . You can order parts for that machine now. It was used to make clothing but was really nice for making quilts .

Like Vicki said....the black tub is for installing an outdoor pond. The "sliding doors" are called Pocket doors. They were to save space. It's a terrific idea that was only abandoned because of laziness. The upside down table is a drop leaf table. If you flip it on its feet, it will have two sides that will fold up or down depending on what size table you need. The mantels are exquisite! Wish you'd have shown them a little more closely. This is a beautiful house. I wish I knew where it was. I would look into obtaining and restoring it. Absolutely gorgeous and it should be saved.

The second set of stairs, are for the help, they were not aloud to use the main stairs. The tud is called a clawfoot tub, ive been lucky enough to have had them many times, i wish i had one now.

Is this house actually abandoned? Someone is maintaining the lawn and there are repair materials and paint cans. I hope someone does save this beauty. I wouldn't want such a large house. Hopefully someone will give this one the TLC it deserves. It doesn't seem to be very deteriorated at present. The porch is really my favorite part, I think. The whole place is nicely balanced. Your appreciation for architecture repeatedly makes me think you should study the subject and channel your passion for it, somehow, into restoration work. Just a thought

Not sure about the paint cans, maybe they’re old. We own a groundskeeping company and are occasionally called to by a township/city or the owner of abandoned properties to mow the grass. Due to ordinances, they have to be mowed or the owner gets a pretty hefty fine a few times a year.

This is beyond spectacular!! Looking at this beauty makes me wish I won the lottery,I'd be looking to buy it in a minute!! I love victorian homes,there's something about them that reeks of history. The bathtub is called a clawfoot tub,I loved the french doos,it has pocket doors also,and on the dining room table that was a tureen,usually used for serving soup. I'm hoping it's put on the national list of historic homes,there must be some distant family members who would want,or to protect it. It could be made into a bed and breakfast,or retirement home.Thanks for sharing

At 7:38 that was a garden pond liner. It's a cheat used to make garden ponds. It's pretty new cause they've been using them for 10 years. I loved the living room with the cupola on it. Those are great for putting Christmas trees up. Or even bench seats so you can look out. Thanks for the tour.

As a proud granddaughter of an amazing carpenter, I am always drawn to the woodwork. I’m a die~hard admirer of craftsmanship and details. Victorian “Painted Ladies” always steal my heart. They’re always so beautifully appointed. I wish I could see this on something bigger than a phone! That’s a Lyre (pronounced like ‘Liar’) table. Hence, the harp~like instrument carved on the sides. Possibly Duncan Phyfe (again, I am watching this on a cellphone). The sides drop down, so it can be snugged~up to a wall, out of the way. I’m one of the fortunate people who gets to take her baths in a claw foot tub. They are so comfortable! 🛁 I had a piano similar to that one. Mine had a bit more detail. I got the information from the inside, researched it…..and found one just like it for $10,000.00~$14,000.00, depending on condition. (My house was built in 1886….and still standing strong!)

Thanks for a GREAT video! Your attention to detail is very much appreciated! It is wonderful that you discover, explore, and share with us these marvelous reminders of a yesterday not so long ago! The staircase is indeed magnificent! The woodwork and craftsmanship, beyond reproach. What astounds me most (and there are too many to mention!) is that all of the natural woodwork has NOT been painted over and appears to be in excellent condition! That blew me away. There were at least five different woods used from what I could make out. This judge was obviously quite wealthy. I spied some of the doorknob hardware (fancy fancy!), the leaded glass, the built-in furniture (built-ins), and the pocket doors---sliding doors separating one or two parlor rooms, the dining area, or a hallway from each other---used to conserve heat in winter and to provide extra privacy in the home. The workmanship on the fireplace mantles and the beautiful tile work is top notch! Superb! I was looking for parquet floors to see if the wood floor had any fancy wood designs/styles, but, too dark. The answer to your upside-down furniture identification question is that right-side-up, it is a table or extender. It is the exact identical style of the dining room table downstairs. Both tables' supporting legs are designed and built/carved with the Lyre style. It could very well be an extension for the dining room table. The chairs around it match as well. The matching chairs have the Lyre symbol also carved into the backs. A Lyre is a beautiful and ancient-looking musical instrument, similar to a harp. If this furniture is original to the house, the judge may very well have had a great appreciation for music. This house appears to have been built with natural airflow in mind. To act as an air conditioner. Heat rises to the high ceilings in all of the rooms and the Transomme windows (open and close windows above the doorways) force the room's hotter ceiling air to flow from room to room. The sheer number of these windows in this particular house creates a strong draft that moves on into the outward halls---inward, toward the center of the house, which then spirals around the grand staircase. There, up the staircase, the heat flows to the second floor, swirls throughout, and exits either through open windows or up the stairway to a vented attic. A few open doors or windows on the ground floor are quite helpful in creating and supporting the house's circular airflow. I am SO impressed by this unique Queen Anne Victorian that I have a few questions and thoughts I'd like to share with you, if I may. I sincerely appreciate your time and hope you might respond! How large does the property appear to be? Is it surrounded by rundown homes or other large homes? Bad neighborhood? Is there a driveway leading to a Carriage House? There may be a vintage automobile or even a victorian carriage with a horse stall. Do you have any video of the surrounding property (ancient trees, a cistern, smaller buildings, or a barn?). Is it possible to photograph all exterior sides of this home? I'm hoping that you might agree with me and return to this home to shoot additional video. It is so worth it. Winter is fast approaching at the time of this writing, so more of the property and the houses' exterior architectural elements might be more visible. The trees surrounding it may have lost some or most of their foliage. Please give it some thought. Thank you again for an excellent video and keep up the GREAT work, chaps! Carry on!

Well everyone got all of the correct descriptions for the claw tub, armoire, transom windows above the door, etc. What was missed was the round metal controller mounted on the wall above the thermostat. The unit was also a thermostat but chain operated the speed of the coal feeder to a huge “octopus” coal fire furnace. I grew up in a similar house. Great memories!

Pocket doors 🚪 are amazing 💯❤❤❤The whole house is amazing,I use to take baths in old claw tub like that in my aunt's old house.We use to put a slinky on the grand staircase and watch it walk down the stairs. We'd slide down staircase when my aunt wasn't around 🤗😅😊🥰Wed hear like boots stomping up and down staircase at night 😳🙈Loved the house during day but didn't like night time at my aunt's. That is a "claw foot Tub" The Singer machine was beautiful. My grandmother had one but not as ornate. This had to be one lovely home. Still, is really if only it could be restored but may be too far gone with ceiling etc. ? They were hard to heat though and needed to fireplaces. Could only probably heat as needed. The porch and little area to approach the home was absolutely so crazy nice. The bench facing your upstairs was odd though. Was thinking people would come to see the judge and would sit there maybe and wait to see him. They were trusting they did not go up the stairs? But maybe someone was with them? The floors may need doing over and some painting and yet furniture is not too bad at least some. I love old homes! The antiques left behind. Wal paper is a must in homes like this. At least in a few rooms. Sliding doors *Pocket doors* are hard to find! The wood was kept so nicely especially on the stairs. Wonder if anyone can buy a house like this *as is* as long as back taxes are paid, hopefully, and if they fix it up and do work in a time period relevant to when it was built etc, if they could buy it cheap enough after having it checked and approved for the condition may be *inspected well*, and could get it cheap enough to spend money to restore it. Maybe Patrons would help? If the programs were fun for them? I cannot do it but I would think a few friends, family or couple could? Worth someone checking out and am shocked they have not already tried it? Wonder if anything could be purchased in that way? I say stair case* also

Beautiful home! Imagine living there and growing up there with all your siblings. Great place to play hide and seek, and the staircases are perfect for button, button, who’s got the button. All the kids in the neighborhood would gather at your house, green with envy. Art and statuary would fill the rooms, and greenery would hug the corners of the sitting/living rooms. The house would be filled with the laughter of the kids, and holiday decorating would begin long before the actual holiday. Imagine lining just the porch with garland for Christmases. That alone would take days. Happy memories of the generations lasting lifetimes. How many servants would be required for the smooth functioning of this house? A wife/mother could not do it with just the help of the ten kids. Yes, this beautiful house/mansion sure sets the imagination on fire. Thank you for the tour!

💕Lovely find! "Dresser"in hall is called either a wardrobe or an armoire. Sometimes you'll find one with drawers alongside the area in which to hang things... that will be called a chiffarobe. The ceiling that had fallen and what the walls are most likely to be constructed is what they term plaster (what was on the floor) and lath (small strips of wood that were exposed in the video you took.) For binding and insulation, they would often add horses hair tobthe plaster mix.

Absolutely beautiful house! Victorian houses are my favorite, because they're ornate and thoughtful. Like you said, they don't make them like that anymore. Modern houses are so copy and paste with no personality!

The closet next to the "church pew" aka a guest bench to seat while your butler took your coats and belongings to neatly hang then inside that valet closet! Admirable! That table upside down was a sewing table extender with a drop leaf for larger sewing projects quilts measuring fabrics etc just apart of that craft room you was in
