My mom used to teach in the one room school house in Wilsie, in the 60’s…she said it was the highlight of her teaching career…❤

West Virginia is where dreams go to die. WV is a dead end state without any future. Seriously, if you have dreams and aspirations of any kind stay far away from this dump. - a WV native

Anytime, it’s a shame this place had been given up on. Even though there is a lack of infrastructure, the strong community remains all over the County & State. The stores may be closed but the lovely people still call these places home.

I know who owns this house. It's my brothers father. I was just there last month. The house down the street is actually his father's father's house if that makes sense.

Hard to imagine these places even exist in these eastern regions of the USA. One would think these unused lands would be restored to nature or repurposed as farmland.
@indecipherabl32 жыл бұрын
Nature seems to be taking it back as it is... the flooding in this area can make it unsuitable for farming I would imagine.

Yes! It was known as DO Moyer's General Merchandise, you can see a receipt from the store in this article below. www.hurherald.com/cgi-bin/db_scripts/articles?Action=user_view&db=hurheral_articles&id=74929

Very cool to know that a local saw my video! It’s evident this had been a lively place to live at one point. You can see people walking these towns as recent as like 2015-2018 on Google Maps. Not to mention, Wilsie is incomplete and a lot of the buildings which had been sinking into the river were demolished. Yes, you have to be careful on these roads. Lots of deer, cow, rocks, ditches etcetera to hit. Some of the rough roads around the New River Gorge national park were more creeks than streets.

Unfortunately, I believe that flooding and a lack of infrastructure like new bridges being built towards the cities and larger communities and avoiding these smaller places, I'd imagine that's what had really forced people out of these towns.
