Great job! You actually missed the most beautiful houses in the town. I lived there twice. It would have been the exact opposite direction from when you enter the square. You would have been in shock seeing those beautiful huge old homes.

Huguenots were French protestants a lot of them left France due to persecution. My favorite Aunt , Lottie Mae, was of Huguenot descent from Charleston. It is so cool to see a little southern town so vibrant. I have not been there in about 50 years.

I also have this heritage. The Huguenots had passed through GB for a hundred years or so before coming to America. They were pretty far removed from French heritage by then.

Lynching isn't as bad a thing as you think...and it's not only Blacks who were lynched. My family ancestors decedents were one of the families that established this town. They were over 200 years removed for their French Huguenot heritage by then.
