CORRECTION: Sorry I meant to say 4 million subscribers, not 400 million LOL oops baby brain!!
Hi everyone, welcome to Abbey's Kitchen! In today’s episode of KZbinr reviews, we’re going to be taking a look at, Remi Ashten.
A few disclaimers:
1) The information in this video is for education and entertainment purposes only, so you should always speak to a health care provider about your unique health needs.
2) The recommendations for each individual meal I review is designed to give you a variety of ideas on how to optimize meals for balance, variety and satiety. Whether or not one individual meal or even one day is balanced or “healthy” does not matter in the grand scheme of ones health, especially if a person is eating in response to their physical and emotional needs. I give suggestions as examples and inspiration for you, but you can also gather this data for yourself over time by listening to your own body and figuring out what feels good.
3) Please be kind in the comments, here and on Remi Ashten's channel
4) TRIGGER WARNING: some graphics and discussions may be disturbing to some viewers so feel free to skip this video.
5) Don’t forget to subscribe to this channel and ring the little bell so you never miss out!

@@trudes4415 Yeah, I got so concerned when she was doing that! If you have to work out intensively like three hours per day to maintain a certain size, it might just not be natural/accessible for your body. We have to accept that sometimes the figure we want to have just isn't something our body is made for.

Because she has pcos, it’s harder for her to maintain a healthy weight. From what I seen, she’s still overweight, not in the healthy BMI index, so if she wants to lose weight, she can.

It would be interesting to see you review the Kardashians food choices. They show aspects of what they eat throughout their show, and also talk about food which can come across to be quite a negative mindset. Eg. Kourtney being very aggressive pushing her views regarding sugar and ‘candy,’ and it causing tumours and speeding up the ageing process. It would be interesting to hear your perspective

Kardashians promote diet culture and it's awful, because they have huge amounts of followers on their Instagram accounts and lots of people watch their show. They label food as "bad" and "good" and overall they can trigger eating disorders

I enjoy watching Remi's videos but definitely try to stay away from when she talks about food. I find she eats a lot of diet culture "healthier" prepackaged foods. She ends up making different meals for her and her bf which sort of just makes me sad that she feels she can't eat the same thing because she needs a healthier version. I'm glad she seems happy I just can't imagine eating like that.

Omg I looooove Remi! I'm so glad you reviewed her. I don't know if you saw it but a while back she re-did her own what I eat in a day from a couple years ago when she first started dieting and really opened up about her restrictive dieting (like she would film a meal but when she cut the camera off, she would throw the food out). I think it's so nice to see a creator being honest with their own dieting struggles and not trying to hide that. Her dieting has become much more balanced since she started her weight loss journey a couple years ago. I loved hearing all your feedback to her current meals 💜 Also, your baby bump is looking SO cuuute Abbey 💜

Thank you, once again, for talking about hyponatremia! I always have this need to drink, and it always worries me (last night I even dreamt that I was hospitalized because of my water intake as my doctor warns me). I usually drink around 8L/a day, and I know that some times I drank more than 10L. I try to be careful, and have my sodium level checked every once in a while but it’s kinda scary. And I tried to reduce my water intake, but I just can’t. That’s why I can’t help but praising people who talk about this issue. I know that most people don’t drink enough water, but they need to be careful not to drink too much. I didn’t know for a long time that it was dangerous, until I talked to my doctor about it. So thank you for bringing this up in the video!

Her food reminds me a lot about my old habits: low calorie substitutes, lots of water, low carb, etc. I had these habits after having my baby last year, and combined with exercise and breast feeding, my weight dropped to a scary 43kg and im 165 cm. I got very bloated and lost my period. One day I just had enough and started to eat like a normal human being. Guess what, my bloating problem is gone, my mood is much better, and i just got my period back yesterday. It is still not a healthy period at all, but it is a mile stone! I need my period and plan to have more kids lol. Plus, using these dieting habits made my muscle shrink, which i exercised regularly to maintain. What a waste!

Victoria Nash I probably should get check up, but with the covid 19 thing, i did not unfortunately. I think comparing to protein, Carbs and fat are more important to get period back, at least for now when we lost it. I started to have white rice, but white bread is great too. I have nuts and seeds, and healthy fat. I think around 2-3 weeks after doing this, i can see regular discharge lol. Sorry if this is too much info. I still dont have it stable, but at least something happens here, and it is a good start.

Regarding the shirataki noodles that come up in her video, they make great stir fry or lo mein type dishes. I tried them once out of curiosity and have found that, rather than replacing other pastas with them, they work well as an intentional ingredient in a dish. If you dry fry them (medium hot pan + noodles) they get a much more pleasant texture and a richer taste because you essentially dry out some of the extra moisture. You know they are done when they make a squeaking sound on the pan. Sauté away with veggies, whatever sauce (or sauces) you want, and your protein of choice.

As a person who lost almost 40 pound it was very hard for me to deny the diet words and how strict I was. Also, I struggled with period loss even when I was at 21 BMI. So, I have empathy to her. Gaining weight and return to my past weight was my nightmare . As days passed, my relation with food improved I allowed myself to eat more have some treats. As a result, I gained my period. It took me very long time to fight the thinking but finally I feel proud about what I accomplished.

Her yoyo dieting and recent weight gain (that she mentioned) definitely makes me not whole heartily take her advice. I had an eating disorder and I find her videos to be little triggering sometimes bc she has a very toxic "diet culture" mindset. :( and always talks about "low cal" I really wish she can focus on how nourishing Whole Foods are rather than focusing on the numbers :(

I actually love those liquid IV things! I still try to drink the same amount of water that I would otherwise, but as someone who has a condition where I black out when I stand up (I’m not anemic, it’s called Vesovegal syndrome) and it gets a lot worse with I haven’t eaten enough, if I’m stressed, if it’s hot out, or if I’m even a little dehydrated. These actually really help me on days when its super hot out, when I’m being super active, or if I am doing an intense workout. On days like that, it’s sometimes the only thing that stops me from blacking out or just getting dizzy while walking. Obviously it won’t work or be necessary for everyone, but for me it’s really great. Plus it’s absolutely delicious, I love the lemon lime one, it tastes like Gatorade but way better.

I think you did a great review on Remis diet! I like seeing what she eats as I also suffer from PCOS but I do find it unrealistic due to the fact that so much of what she buys are fad food trends and thus extremely expensive. The water she buys plus the different low carb alternatives are very expensive for most people.

Really appreciate you doing this but I actually disagree with a lot of the video. I started following her a few years ago and realized some of the things she was doing weren’t quite adding up for sustainable fitness. She has a lot of “cheat days” instead of just incorporating things into her diet, she would smell a piece of cake or a bagel her boyfriend was eating instead of just taking a small bite, and went on a tomato diet after seeing the Kardashian nutritionist. I think she things that anything gluten/vegan/dairy free is healthy and a lot of it is prepackaged. A lot of her serving sizes are quite large. She has a lottt of snacks that she shows on camera, but when she goes shopping she always says how they’re totally out of groceries which makes me think she’s eating a lot that she doesn’t disclose (which is only problematic since this has become her brand). She has a movie drawer full of junk for visitors that also triggered me a little lol. After watching a lot of her videos, i think cutting out alcohol and sugary things, focusing on Whole Foods (instead of gluten free/vegan everything) and getting rid of her big snack drawer would probably help her a lot. Her more recent videos are much more telling I think of what her diet is like now. She loves to cook which is great and I think she has great intentions. I’m not bashing, just giving observations on what I’ve seen. As someone who’s about the same weight as her and struggling, i can see where a lot of her thinking is wrapped up in diet culture and trying to look like her peers even though they have different body shapes. I hope she learns to love the body she has and to eat in a way that’s lasting for her in the future!

I think having snacks in your home is probably better than just not allowing it in your house. You can learn it’s all okay in moderation, and no need to binge. I can keep lots of ice cream at home, but only eat it occasionally.
@np1114
@np1114 4 жыл бұрын
Dani Ann oh agreed. I don’t think having snacks at home is a bad thing! Just between her pantry tour and her grocery hauls it seems like a LOT. Like, her pantry is enough stock for a year! And her movie snack drawer is all just...family size packs of candy/chocolate/etc. I think I’d probably just pare down a bit personally on things I know I really like. She’s said that she’s a snacker. Between snacking often in between meals and then making some meals with pretty big portion sizes for her and her boyfriend, I think she may be getting more calories in than she thinks, and then working extra hard to burn it off in her gym. Like I said, just from observation! If anything she should make videos about the snacks she likes and recommends for some “content, baby, content” lol
@nataliaa.1094

@@DaniAnn but that's not for everyone. I barely ever have snacks in the house (except if I made them myself) because I most definitely would binge on them...and I'm highly sensitive to sugar so that's unfortunate.
