Hi Abbey! Love your videos! I gotta say, for all ladies that started bleaching their hair - bleach somehow increases your hair porosity. Having said that, though I have straight hair I tried some conditioners and masks dedicated for curly hair and, DAMN! My hair never looked better. I think that’s because conditioners dedicated to curly hair have a lot of humectants and emollients. If you have bleached hair or damaged hair you need to make sure you have the balance of all. Proteins, emollients and humectants.

@clipinqueen3 жыл бұрын
You really did your research! LOL. I love that you mention water as damage inflicting. A lot of people don't realize that. What I find confusing though, is how do we prevent the damage of washing while keeping the scalp clean? So many people nowadays use the dry shampoos and oils daily to avoid 'washing', but then that leads to buildup of product on the scalp that ends up clogging the follicles! It becomes overwhelming to form a hair strategy while thinking of all of this. LOL. Thanks again - your hair is beautiful!

I love humidity though 😭 I also wet it everyday too refresh the curls, do sit in the sun without a hat, don't plait my hair at night and just let the elements destroy it really. So it's definitely not just heat/styling, dying, bleaching. I feel like my hair is and looks more unhealthy than the ladies i know who do all of those things BUT the damage and dryness actually amplify the curls for me personally. Definitely going back on a healing journey, my hair used to be enough to use as a scarf, I want to get it close to that again. Have you looked into the effects of dimethicone (or silicones in general) in haircare? Personally have very similar hair type to yours. I’ve eliminated almost all silicones from my hair care products, but I noticed many of the products you recommend do have silicones. Especially with finer hair, silicones can easily cause a lot of build up that weighs the hair down. Would love to see you look into this and potentially do a video!!
@Andrea-dm4gd3 жыл бұрын
most silicones are modified to not build up in the hair and are easily cleaned, water soluble, and light weight. Stop letting marketing companies convince you you need to pay 20 dollars for a mediocre conditioner but some how is worth it bc it doesn't have silicones. Buy high quality products for fine hair and ignore the silicone demonization is a marketing strategy/scam.

My hair is extremely damaged because of previous bleaching, and in order to maintain a nice color I’ve colored it back to a natural looking color. However my ends are so damaged and even using heat once a week makes my hair even worse. I’m going to have to do a “clean girl” ponytail which is a tight hairstyle because that is the only heatless style I can do that looks clean and professional. Otherwise my hair is a frizzy awful mess that makes me feel super unconfident. Wish someone would talk about heatless hairstyles that actually look good and don’t damage hair. Sorry for the long-winded comment. As summer approaches I will soon be in salt water often, so I will have to start washing more along with trying to hydrate my hair and hide it from the sun. By using these cheap pink Amazon combs on your hair you undo a lot of your great haircare just by combing your hair with them. Combs and Brushes need to be of excellent quality! Good quality combs need to be hand-sawn, handcut and hand polished so that they have perfectly rounded and burr-free teeth which will be gentle to hair and scalp. Cheap industrial made combs - like the ones you showed in the video - are injection molded from plastic and do have jagged imperfections - often invisible to the eye - which will cut or shred your hair as well as cause split ends. The same goes for brushes. Avoid brushes with ball tips. Most cheap brushes have ball tips. They will snag the hair and rip it out. Most ball tipped brushes have ball tips that are of a different material from the brush. Over time, the two materials will gradually deform and separate, so you get cracks and wrinkles at the edge of the ball. Those cracks and wrinkles will catch hair and cause damage. Eventually, the two materials separate enough that just running the brush through your hair is enough to dislodge the ball. Next problem, most ball tipped brushes are injection molded from plastic. This means there are thin ridges at the mold edge. Just like on a plastic comb, those ridges can be sharp enough to cut or shred your hair, causing damage. Depending on where the mold edges are, there could be none of these near your hair, or lots. Another common sort of ball tipped brush has bristles that are wedged into place, either on a flexible pad, or a small bristle anchors a larger one on a hard plastic surface. Hair can get caught between a bristle and the flexible pad, and hair can get caught between the small bristle and the larger one. Invest into a good quality hairbrush! It may be quite expensive but will last a lifetime if you take good care of it. Buy something likeKoh-I-Noor high-quality hand made Italian Brushes or the high-quality Kent Brushes made in the UK. For high quality combs I recommend the German Hercules-Sägemann brand which has been making handmade premium combs made out of 100% vulcanised natural material for over 160 years. The high-quality combs are hand-sawn, hand-cut and hand polished and will last a lifetime. And wear a silk hair cap at night!

I agree with you about hair must be well conditioned. My hair improves better since I started to use deep conditioner hair mask , oils until natural treatment like aloe vera together with eating healthy , drinking too much water and taking hair supplements.

Great video! Have you heard of k18 hair repair or tried it? Very pricey but I’ve noticed good results in a pretty dire hair situation I’m in. It’s a bit unpleasant to use because you’re supposed to skip conditioner and apply it to damp hair after shampooing but worth it for the results (for me at least).

omg i thought i was the only one-i also experienced severe protein overload trying out rice water and no one was talking about this,everyone just had amazing results. tbh, i had a lot of growth,but my ends were soo rough and straw-like so i had to cut it anyway. now i'm still terrified of using a protein mask 1-2x a month 🙈

@@AbbeyYung yesss,it was growing nicely and then all of a sudden i saw my ends get sooo dry. i just had to cut a bunch of it off,used a clarifying shampoo and started using only hydrating professional masks for 3 weeks straight (so 6 times in a row) before i was ready to try reintroducing protein to my hair. i love the redken masks so i used their hydrating and protein masks (gold and blue)-they're really great💁🏼♀️

Try the curlsmith double cream deep quencher deep conditioner. It has no protein and will give your hair a boost of moisture to balance it out. I used it when my hair was in protein overload and it worked really well.

How do I know if my breakage is from a protein build-up? How do I prevent a protein build-up while using protein-based products in my hair? If my hair is due to protein build-up, what products do I use?

I’ve started washing my hair only once a week as apposed to every day. As well as not letting my hair air dry and stay wet longer. Also braiding my hair before bed. It’s made a big difference.

My breakage is due to my 1&2 year old boys that pull and literally rip out so much of my hair every day, and it leaves my hair with little bits that regrow at the top :(

Great video. It’s so frustrating to try to figure out if I need more moisture or protein. I have VERY thin fine hair. Using the “thin hair” shampoos is making things worse.

can you do a video explaining your thoughts on ingredients and why you dont care about parabens, SLS, Sulphates, silicones, etc , esp silicone since silicone masks the hair and is wax and doesnt actually penatrate and nourish the hair etc, THX

For me, I have Thick/heavy/wavy/frizzy/huge/heavily layered/bleached/graying/Unmanageable tremendous mop of hair and if I don’t use sulfites to shampoo with then build up from products does not get removed. I find a mandatory otherwise I am washing my hair five times which defeats the purpose. Silicones smooth & protect my hair from breakage & Splitting and make it more manageable. I tried to do without but I can’t. That’s my two cents for all it’s worth! I wish I had other options.
@sonjaforrester92553 жыл бұрын
So this makes me think maybe your hair textbook could.answer by age old question. Is it better to wash or use heat? Which is less damaging... washing and blow drying on lowest setting or using a flat iron. Because I have to chose one every day!
@anap30083 жыл бұрын
why do you have to do one every day? if you can, the best option would be to wash and blow dry on a low setting and then protect the style while you sleep either with a satin cap or by gently securing the hair to stretch the days between your washing/styling days. so for example, if you wash on Monday, see if you can hold off washing and styling again until Wednesday or Thursday.
@sonjaforrester92553 жыл бұрын
@@anap3008 because I have very fine hair that when I sleep it creases and flips out on the bottom but not uniformly. I have just above should bob and if I secure it creases if I don't it flips. I don't have to use flat iron all the way around but just usually the ends. I do only was 3 days a week but it looks pretty gross between because it's so flat fine and cowlicks it's not fun!

I get insane breakage because I have fine hair. Seriously, so fine, it breaks so easily. I have been on a hair repair journey since 2020, when I found out that washing my hair every other day with Pantene shampoo wan t exactly healthy. Since then I have invested in an oil based conditioner and sulfate free shampoo and started washing once a week and saw great results. Even now that I joined swim team (I do a ton of chlorine prevention though) it is still looking better.

How about applying heat for deep condition treatments? Their are steam caps or salon-esque blow dryer hoods.
@barbarawalker32203 жыл бұрын
You’re hair is so pretty!! Don’t use Olaplex!! It’s horrible because it’s just a silicone attractor. When silicone coats those weak spots, it makes it so nutrients and moisture can’t get to the hair and it causes breakage from the silicone buildup. K18 is a much better product that is silicone free
@Nana-ye3lu Жыл бұрын
What about the olaplex 7 bonding oil? I found it working with me as heat protection and a I put it on my dry ends every 2 days and it made my hair softer and not as dry, I've been dealing with breakage before I started using it so I don't think it the main problem?
@Me_Caity7 ай бұрын
Not necessarily. Silicone is not always a bad thing.
@KimberlyPowell023 ай бұрын
I love Olaplex, and the opposite happened. K18 actually dried my hair out from the high alcohol levels it was very disappointing after hearing so many good things. The only product that was effective was the damage shield shampoo and conditioner. It was moisturizing and has good slip

Careful with olaplex. Too much protein is very very bad on super weak damaged hair. Olaplex is extremely strong and mine broke off right up to the root using olaplex - this happened to 4-5 other girls I know
