My novel has been in the works for like... 13 years now. Yes, 13 years. 13 years spent worldbuilding and trying to figure out what my plot is. In the past two years I have found both your channel and Jed Herne's channel and Brandon McNulty. A combination of all these channels and a couple others I truly think has helped steer me towards finally starting my novel. It's been a REALLY slow start, and I only have 1.5 chapters written, but it's a hell of a lot better than having nothing for over a decade. I'm working out the kinks little by little. Thanks for all the videos you make.

My core writing goal is to completely finish my book and get it published, all by December 31st this year. I have been working on my book for almost two years now, i am currently working on the second draft. The main plot twist is that we learn the main protagonist, a teen princess in a grimdark fantasy setting, is the reincarnation of an evil black dragon that lived a millennia prior, who wiped out wn entire kingdom in a single night. Her internal conflict is the conscious desire to be virtuous and help people, while fighting against her intatly selfish motivations and her inclination towards darker impulses, influenced by her past life, while having no memories of said past life.

Oh wow that's interesting! Can't wait to read this book when published. My novel is set in a high, steampunk, dark fantasy setting. It tackles a lot of dark themes and this is the synopsis: Set in a fictional analogue and alternate universe of the German Empire in 1890 called Archenland, Driapians live among the human population in secrecy to evade the authorities of ADCOA (Anti-Driapian Commission of Archenland), a federal agency tasked with investigating and solving Driapian-related crimes as well as killing them. Ariesia Amara Durchdenwald is a 16 year old Duchess and half-Driapian (a person born from one human and one Driapian parent) living in Archenland. After her parents are wrongfully murdered by people from ADCOA, she vows to get revenge and put an end to the agency's existence for good. One day during a mission, under the alias “Bellina”, she meets a man named Elias Abelard Heisenberg, a nobleman originally from the Kingdom of Fulissen, a state in Archenland, who moved to Archen City with his family when he was 8. Things are going well between the two until Ariesia finds out that Elias works for ADCOA and is tasked with a mission to kill her in order to gain his family's approval and officially become the heir to the agency. Unbeknownst to Elias, the girl he’s fallen in love with is the same one who he must kill to earn his title.

Shoot for the moon and land among stars? lol. I did manage to finish the rough drafts of 4 books this year (all part of the same series) and would like to finish at least 4 more drafts this year! Hi Abbie! I've been in a spot of a fugue state. I recently decided despite the fact that it is going to be an enormous tax on me both physically and psychically, I have curated a pair project-twins. I'm going to dive into reconciling my talents for fiction, fantasy or otherwise, with the flaws that hamper my attempts to work with nonfictional narratives. I'm not going to hound you over questions large and small. I would love to join you underneath your Learning Tree; maybe I could show you some new ways to pick some fruit up because I myself have been in training to "pick" fruit to in fresh melon bowls at the grocery store I work in. I have been very impressed. Your energy is amazing and your grasp of the subject gives you credibility. I am 75 and wishfully hope to get published before I die and with your guidance, I will. I owned and operated a gymnastics academy for years and I couldn’t even do a cartwheel, but I led my competitive gymnastic team to a state championship three years in a row. I mention this because some of the reviews of your book on Amazon said the same thing, that your videos were outstanding, but your book was lacking. I didn’t buy a copy because I want to keep watching and learning about writing because I am not much into romantic novels. Keep up the great KZbin videos. They are the best! Remember, people such as Vince Lombardy never played the sport professionally, yet he coached a professional football team to its zenith and he is considered America’s greatest football coach.

Hello! I actually have 2 writing goals in mind for this year. The first one is that I want to learn and practice more about writing. I've been writing ever since middle school, but my process to how I write my stories and such are not that great. For one thing I wrote first and planned later if u get what I mean. Even in highschool when I started publishing my works on wattpad it's the same. I tried looking up tutorials and websites of different ways to help me improve, especially with creating characters, however, it instead made me so overwhelmed to the point where even tho I want to continue I get anxiety. I've been watching ur videos back in 2022 but stop due to personal stuff but I loves every video I saw. It finally felt like this is the kind of teaching I needed. Which is why I'm back here and want to learn more. My second, and to me most important, goal is to write AND FINISH a story. Doesn't matter if it's a short or long story. I'm determined to make this goal happen. But I do have a question for you if your have the chance. Where do I begin? I want to do this right but I'm a little lost on where to begin my learning journey. Can you please help me? I would greatly appreciate it very much 🙏

My goal is to write just 10 pages per month. Not a very big goal, but the idea is that I get ten minimum and then hopefully feel motivated to do more as I please throughout the month. I just find that when I set my goals super high I feel far too pressured to even begin, so I’m starting really small. Although, 10 pages a month is still 120 pages a year (not including any extra writing I do,) and in a perfect world I’ll be done my book by the end of 2026, so that’s awesome! It’s big for me!

That's probably a good idea. A year ago, I had the goal of writing five pages every week. I think Ibgave up on that goal within the first week, writing zero pages. When June came around, I decided to get serious and try to write every day, even if it was just ten minutes. (I made a spreadsheet to keep track of my word count and time spent.) I wrote 31 pages in 27 days. Then burnout hit me HARD. I've barely worked on that story at all in the six months since. (Just a bit of brainstorming.) I want to do a major re-write of the first chapter, but I'm procrastinating. ... Still in burnout mode.

I almost completed my first draft of a novel I have "brainstormed" for years I have to finish the final showdown and write a brief epilogue. Because the story is primarily a mystery thriller so I first wrote an extremely detailed outline that included 75% of the dialogue to get the clues and foreshadowing right so this is almost like a second draft, I'll probably do some outlining for something else (get my mind out of 1900's Europe and into the time of the crusade for a while) then I hope to get a final draft and start editing

When I saw this, I just had to click to comment my goal/novel idea (to show it as recently as possible!) The novel idea alone, as I didn't know about NaNo until after I first had the idea, has been floating around in my head for 5 years now! My goal is to write (probably not publish, though- want it to be revised before I do) the first draft of my current novel plan in November, and yes, do this for NaNo! (still need to outline the characters and the plot- I know, it's character-driven!) My idea was this: a dual-POV (POV characters: student and teacher) urban contemporary fantasy adventure set 9 years ago. (Would be 10 years at the time of NaNo) Set in an alternate-universe 2015 in my hometown, the student (currently 6th-grade) has been, might I say, obsessed with the series "Mystwick School of Musicraft" (like yours truly!) since the beginning, to the point where if it's real he wants to apply: according to the series, school there starts in 7th grade. In this universe, the MC of "Mystwick" actually wrote the series- and spoiler alert, she's the equivalent of the teacher (POV character 2)! The student in question doesn't know they're the same initially (finding out is probably going to be the midpoint plot twist), but one day during class she accidentally references her school days precisely enough that the student realizes, "Mystwick's all real? Sign me up then!" At first the teacher can't believe he's serious when he says that out loud, but at the next class he confirms that he was serious! But he already had a vague idea of this being true because something (I haven't decided what yet) tells him she made the wish of something like "I wish there could be someone from here who goes to my school" and gets some clues to help understand what she means. Of course, he doesn't know what/where "my school" is. And yes: this is basically a "what if I were an in-universe Mystwick character" book with a twist (taken from the show Ruby And the Well- the my-equivalent student character has the same job as her)

For thus year I want to finish editing my book, seek copyright permission and either seek out a publisher or maybe dive into the qirkd of self publishing. I also plan to take up writing for at least 15 minutes every morning again, like I did when I was writing my book. I had so much fun initially that when I finished I didn't want the story to end. So I stated writing a second and kept going until I hit a huge writers block and couldn't figure out how to proceed. I made notes, I wrote ahead but still couldn't get through the block. It's sat for a couple years unfinished, even though I was so close to the end. I was about to have the protagonists figure out what really made them happy. So this year I plan to work on the too.

I just started watching your channel this morning and I am greatly imressed. I must admit the at first I was sceptical, as I have watched a number of youtubers that professed to be authors or writing gurus that really disappointed me. I am an ameture author currently working on my first full legth novel. I have been writing stories and poems for most of my life, yet I've never had the confidence to try and get anything published. I believe it is largely due to the fact that when I would present my writings to readers or writing professors I would recieve praise, but on the four occaisions that I asked an established author to look over the sme work they were either dismissive or critical. I am really wanting the opinion of someone who has made a career of writing fiction. I know that, in your videos, you have invited people to share their work with you. I dont know if that invitation still stands, but if so, I would like your thoughts on the first three chapters on a story ive been working on for several years. To me it feels odd to ask this of you, but I want to take the risk finally. I want to get into this world of story telling.

I'm gonna start writing my first-ever story to become a webtoon. I wanted to know if the question "What do you think will bring you true happiness or contentment?" for the character goals should be answered through the lens of the character when they still believe their disbelief or once they transform and realize the truth. Should it be what they think would make them happy based on their disbelief or not?

Hi Abbie! I absolutely love your videos. I really struggle with motivation and staying focused while writing. Do you have any tips for that? I finished my book a few months ago, but after working on other projects, I noticed my writing style had changed quite a bit. Now I’m rewriting it, but while I was relatively motivated the first time around, I can’t seem to get the work done this time.

Writing has always been my n01 priority but it has to be my second priority this year because i need to lose weight for health. I lost 20kg last year but i still have 35kg to lose this year so i need to focus on that but i still want to finish editing my book draft asap
