I always try to remember what my grandmother used to say, "There, but for the grace of God, go I". Life can change in the blink of an eye for any of us. May I always look on others with the same empathy and compassion I would want someone to look upon me with. When I feel impressed upon to help someone, I do it. Answering or denying the call to help is what I have to answer for. What they do with my help, for good or for ill, is what they have to answer for. Abby, you're always such a blessing. Thank you and bless you!

Thank you, thank you so much. I worked with users about 15 years ago, on the street as an outreach health/welfare officer. I’ve lost count of the people I’ve argued with about how a client’s condition had nothing at to do with their Morality. It would frustrate the hell out of me that people were so judging about other people they didn’t know. It was so hurtful to me that, a lot of the time, they were just not listening. Man, it was great that you mentioned it. It’s a message we as people in a social world have to learn. People do all kinds of things that others may not approve of, but that doesn’t mean that they are immoral. Thanks again for broadcasting that message.

I chose homelessness for personal reasons and it amazed me in a negative way how very afraid people are of choosing to be without a “place of constant “.i found this is the ying /yang of this earth.i have seen the fear both on the “norm”side of society AND the street people we fear eachother so to speak.but to put us up socially or bring them closer to reality is our most unaccomplished mission..in 2000 yrs.sadly we humans are s l o w to learn.BUT the very fact that this rightous woman has stood up and spoken IS our meeting in the middle.wonderful Abby huge TY to the interviewer ❤️💜do not stop we will reach them.

If you are called to give, it's up to you to follow through. What they may choose to spend it on is up to them. While recuperating at one sisters house, my other sisters robbed me blind. They left doors and windows open and/or broken. Needless to say, it's no longer inhabitable. We're both disabled and live on my income only. We can't pay remaining balances on medical Bill's and therefore we have bad credit. Even to rent, they run a credit check. I never imagined this would happen to me. I've worked since 13. I had the belief if I worked hard enough, it would all be fine. However, after an abusive marriage and botched back surgery, here I am. Thankful for what I have, grateful for my sisters help and blessed to have my daughter 💝

Interesting. The first time I saw a homeless person asking for help and using a mobile phone was in summer 2020. I told him I thought that was the one thing he needed most, and could use a Tile on it. He knew what I meant and said yeah, not many people carry cash and covid was making it worse. I didn't have any cash either and when I came by later with a tenner for him he was gone.

I work with those experiencing homelessness & Abby saying that to get out of homelessness one needs a friend who isn’t homeless. I never really thought of that but it’s true, we see anyone who spends more than 21days in the shelter becomes harder to find them to talk about housing & their needs…which change the longer they’re staying at a shelter. They become “friends” with people who tend/may be exploiting them.

society is so cruel; people like to "identify" and "label". Clearly people don't understand and can't put themselves in their shoes. Always put yourself in their place and be kind and caring. They don't ask to be put in this situation. Circumstances out of your control place people in a spot where they cannot fathom a good outcome. Homelessness is often due to society not making it possible to overcome a situation. Rent or even finding a home affordable is often unobtainable if your only working part time or are faced with unemployment. Pensions here in Ontario Canada have forced many seniors , veterans and people with disabilities or chronic conditions into this type of scenerio. Be kind and help others; for it could be you in this same situation someday.

We have at least 60 years of research showing that issues such as homelessness, addiction, unemployment, crime and mental health problems are social issues. Sociologists have been telling governments for decades that early intervention is the key: address poverty, neglect, abuse, intimate partner violence, behavioural issues in children, inequality, racism and bigotry. Such strategies would *save* huge costs in many sectors of society. Yet, government and its institutions continue to penalise the most vulnerable members of society, placing the onus on the individual to drag themselves up by their bootstraps. Neoliberalism and trickle down economic policies have been failing us for decades and still they continue. Fundamental change is needed.

I worked with this man that has been flying signs for years the church in our community would pay his rent all the time. At our work we hire the homeless and mentally ill to help out our community. The sign flyer we hired last time worked with us for 2 weeks and then quit and told me his reason for quitting. Because he can make more money setting on his ass holding a sign than working for us or about the same $100 to $150 a day average sometimes allot higher. There not all like that but around here where I live the majority of them are trust me I've gotten to know allot of them for the ones who are legit I'm sorry that the others ruin it for everyone.

Thank you Abby. So many wise words. These are issues i have never experienced. However i have seen exactly what you talk about. Even in the people i love. I always say. What ever they do with the money i give is on them. If they sin, its on them. Now if i ignore and do nothing, especially when i have a couple dollars that it wouldnt hurt me to much to give away, if i do nothing, that is my sin. So i will give regardless of what others say.

Going off the cell phone and homelessness, keep this in mind as well, that may not have any service, and it's the last thing given to them, it the last thing they had that couldn't be bargained or sold for less than surviving. Having friends who are stable allow these people to go to that is "normal", being shifted around room to room, couch to couch is better than the elements. Plus it allows people in unfortunately circumstances to have the possibility of regaining some stability

I know it's awful. It's so hard for so many. And many more will become homeless. Invisible People the YT channel says we need to solve the Affordable Housing Crisis. But it's only a moral issue for the Church. We're supposed to have the morals, not the world. Where's the church on this. I mean honestly if people stopped paying these preacher fleecers then everybody would or could receive that help they need. Also when you help someone better commit. A person needs a yr in your house. You gotta take care of them and my charge them. Jesus wouldn't and we shouldn't neither. But keep them accountable by giving them that yr to get their lives together and then your movin them out.

If we have the ability to help, and we don’t, that’s my definition of sin (if you believe in that stuff). We need to respect the homeless who want to be homeless, and there are many; and we’re morally obligated to help those who do not want to be homeless. No one in the USA should face homelessness. We’re the wealthiest country in the world.

Not many people will admit this, but a lot of them look at homelessness in the same way they look at addiction as being a moral issue. "Oh they made bad decisions!" 🙄 I hate when people are judgmental.... they are usually the people who didn't ever go through any trauma in their life but it tends to make them a little self-centered.

Homelessness is terrible for some and great for others. Every case needs to be examined individually. That said, I won't look at every single person's circumstances because I can't take care of myself and other people at the same time. I might be able to help 1 maybe 2 people in a span of time and it takes a lot of energy to do it properly. Even then, the person has to be willing to do more than just recieve. There must be accountability. There must be growth and maturity on the part of the person receiving help. And when you get burned by irresponsible behavior, you tend to have a lot less patience for the next person. All of that to say, if you can help someone who is down, do it, but don't expect the moon from that person because they are in a place where they can't even meet the lowest of expectations. There is always hope and Jesus is always waiting for us to turn to Him.

Give your money to a homeless person who is in need, don't give it to a church, churches are funded by the government anyway, that's why they're all 501 c 3
@pawpawstew2 жыл бұрын
They're not funded by the government. They are funded by the tithes and offerings given by their congregations. The 501(c)3 designation recognizes them as a not-for-profit entity. Granted, some churches abuse this designation, but the assumption and intent is the monies collected by churches are used for operating expenses and ministries. It is also permitted that they collect funds for future us (e.g. a building/remodeling fund, etc.). the not-for-profit status ensures that the tithes and offerings aren't taxed as earned income by the church. However, salaries paid to employees of the church are taxable as earned income. Now ANY 501(c)(3) entity, including churches, may apply for federal grants as well as foundation grants. If this is the "government" income to which you are referring, then I concur. However, these aren't automatic. Grants must be applied for and must be for a specific purpose related to the role and function of the church. An example might be if the church runs or contributes to a food pantry for the poor, which many do.

Hi Abby firstly love your music, please come to Cornwall UK and play. Over here when it. Ones to homeless people either thi k your an ex con or a druggie or alcoholics, 90% of homeless people here in Cornwall are people that were owners of business that's gone down the pan or ex military, that's been thrown away once their usefulness has gone. Yes there's a percentage that are just take take take. I knew a husband and wife who gad been homeless for 20+yrs , after talking to them it turned out they were in the top 1% of the UK’S richest business owners, they just walked away and decided that they wanted to live that way. People don't talk to homeless people because they think they will catch something that will make them homeless pathetic what

You talk about personal responsibility for me to give my hard earned money to a homeless person. Where is their personal responsibility to get themselves out of the predicament they got themselves into with things like addiction, or simply not wanting to work? Where I work we are incredibly understaffed, and my boss has literally offered jobs to the local homeless, and we have yet to have any of them take him up on the offer. They have no problem asking to use our WiFi, or ask us to fix their electronic devices for free, but they sure don’t want a job to sweep up around the shop. I am physically disabled, and on the spectrum but I get my butt out of bed every day to work hard, and my responsibility ends at paying my bills and providing for my family. I worked through the pandemic, and refused to take government handouts. If I can do it, then so can anyone else.

It IS a moral issue, govts should never allow beloved citizens live on the street, everyone should have the right to a roof over their head and food on their table, there is enough money around to feed those who struggle to fit in for whatever reason..
