Everyone under 30 danced during the Eighties. The music back then was infectious and irresistible. ABC made Sterling quality tunes, on every track even the B side fillers. Now, that’s integrity. After 2000 - it all went downhill, for the industry.
@jclvmanagement784810 ай бұрын
These songs were just built to last. ABC's unmistakable trademarked sound filled with notes of pop melodic magic coupled with beautifully written orchestral parts gave them an identity like no other band in the world. ABC just wanted to write cool catchy songs for their fans, but in the process had no idea how timeless their soul connecting melodies would become. As ABC was cranking out hit after hit in the 80's, even ABC themself had no idea how hungry the world would be for their art 40 years later.

I honestly believe this is one of the greatest love songs of all time. Its just such an epic masterpiece. Id put it in my all time top 10. The sweeping orchestra and whole composure of the song are just perfection. Then Martins glorious voice driving the emotion. I never ever tire of it. Its truly timeless. I hear this and I get such a poignant burst of nostalgia, it makes me cry. The soaring strings and beautiful melody takes me back to when I was aged 20. Life was brilliant. Weekends were all about dressing up to the ' new romantic' nines for the clubs and Sunday all day discos. I can still feel the exitement of getting ready to go out, with no worries in my world and the promise of a fantastic adventure still ahead of me.. I never had a broken heart or gave one, still had all my loved ones round me and was the happiest I have ever been in my life. Wish I could go back and live every precious moment of those years again. We who were having the time of our young lives in the eighties were surely the luckiest of all.

At my first job in 1984 a girl I worked with loved this song. We ended up becoming great friends, not romantically, just great mates, almost soul mates. We both ended up leaving the company and went our separate ways but kept in touch by phone for a while. I ended up moving interstate and I don't know where Kathy went but about 18 mths later I got a call from her mum (I can't remember how she found me) to let me know Kathy had been killed in a car accident. Even though we hadn't stayed in touch I was devastated and this song has been special to me all these years and always brings back good memories.

A heartbreaking song from a great album. 💔 "The kindest cut's the cruelest part." Absolutely love this song. The lyrics are so poignant and heartrending -- at times hopeful then more bleak and resigned. Add the lush orchestral sounds and you have one for the ages. ❤️💐

This was one of my favourite albums. A record that I would listen to from start to finish and this song always stuck out for me. I was lucky to see ABC when they performed in Toronto at Massey Hall. It was a great show. Flash forward to 2022 and saw Martin perform in Toronto again and another great venue, The El Macambo. Also a great show.

A standout song on a tremendous debut album, Lexicon Of Love was produced by the legendary Trevor Horn and featured Anne Dudley's (Art Of Noise) unforgettable string arrangements. Thirty odd years after its initial release, I still play this brilliant album on my Ipod, and of course it sounds as good as it did way back in 1982 when I bought the vinyl original. Good times, great album , fondly remembered.

[Verse 1: Martin Fry] Once upon a time when we were friends I gave you my heart, the story ends No happy ever after, now were friends Wish upon a star if that might help The stars collide if you decide Wish upon a star if that might help [Pre-Chorus 1] What's it like to have loved and to lose her touch? What's it like to have loved and to lose that much? [Chorus 1] Well I hope and I pray that maybe someday You'll walk in the room with my heart Add and subtract but as a matter of fact Now that you're gone I still want you back Remembering, surrendering Remembering that part All of my heart [Verse 2] Spilling up pink silk and coffee lace You hook me up, I rendezvous at your place Your lipstick and your lip gloss seals my fate Sentimental powers might help you now But skip the hearts and flowers, skip the ivory towers You'll be disappointed and I'll lose a friend [Pre-Chorus 2] No I won't be told there's a crock of gold at the end of the rainbow Or that pleasure and pain, sunshine and rain Might make this love grow [Chorus 2] But I hope and I pray that maybe someday You'll walk in the room with my heart Add and subtract but as a matter of fact Now that you're gone I still want you back Remembering, surrendering The kindest cut's the cruelest part All of my heart [Bridge] Ooh, ooh, ooh Ohh, ooh, ooh [Chorus 3] Yes I hope and I pray that maybe someday You'll walk in the room with my heart And I shrug and I say that maybe today You'll come home soon Surrendering, remembering Surrendering that part All of my heart All of my heart

Here I would like to add (having grown up in the 80's) that even the most commercial bands, as ABC in this case were all fine musicians very capable of their instruments and writing and producing original sounding tunes. I think, I have spun this LP over 200 or so times.

Hi JoJo, have you recently checked out "The Lexicon Of Love II" by Martin Fry and ABC? It was released in May 2016 and is seamless to the first Lexicon Of Love Album like they have never been away. Check "Ten Below Zero" and "Flames Of Desire"

I was a gawky teenager when this album was released, and could only dream of emulating Martin Fry's effortless cool. It's a timeless masterpiece and should be in everyone's collection.
