If I recall, that keyboard sound was one of the first uses of what I think was called a "Fairlight" synthesizer. They were so expensive only a few artists were using them. A truly breakthrough beautiful sound.

Be Near Me by ABC is a perfect example of the great music we had in the 80's, there was so much new music being released so fast you could not keep up with it all at the record store but soon you would hear it on the radio. We were overwhelmed like a tidal wave. If you got to grow up in the 50's through the 90's with all the golden classic movies, music and concerts, YOU were blessed!

I went to a very small private Catholic high school in the 80's and we had a jukebox in the cafeteria. Every day I played Be Near Me by ABC and Take Me Home by Phil Collins. Never for a moment do find myself ever growing tired of "Be Near Me." Never! The rhythm, its airy surround sound-I could go on. And even though it has all that, the keyboard will forever rise above all else. Laced with a silver streak, it holds up the entire song directly down the middle. Its changing format is mind-boggling! For example: the first bridge section keyboard has its moment, sound, its place. It then changes a bit on the second bridge in its pattern (on key, medium, fast, somewhat offbeat). And, if all that wasn't enough, the last bridge doubles the sound as its keys actually twinkle lol. And that ladies and gentlemen is why ABC will eternally remain the kings of the Ball! 🥳

I remember it well, too! (I still have this song on 45 - vinyl.) For me, the 80's was the best era for music, hands down. And, I was a huge fan of MTV. I even had the pleasure of watching their very first video, "Video Killed The Radio Star” by The Buggles, when MTV first aired in 1981. (Man, I'm old!) MTV died in the late 90's when the execs figured people would rather watch the blathering idiots on "The Real World" versus actual music videos. It seems that music in general, including MTV, has gone down hill ever since. Hmmm, I wonder why MTV no longer plays videos, but yet still hosts the VMA's. That's a head scratcher! However, with the sickening, raunchy antics of Miley Cyrus (and her ilk), who would really want to watch the VMA's in the first place? Huh. I believe I've turned into my mother. I sure did sound like her just now. (Ok. Yes, I am officially old.)

I remember it well, too! (I still have this song on 45 - vinyl.) For me, the 80's was the best era for music, hands down. And, I was a huge fan of MTV. I even had the pleasure of watching their very first video, "Video Killed The Radio Star” by The Buggles, when MTV first aired in 1981. (Man, I'm old!) MTV died in the late 90's when the execs figured people would rather watch the blathering idiots on "The Real World" versus actual music videos. It seems that music in general, including MTV, has gone down hill ever since. Hmmm, I wonder why MTV no longer plays videos, but yet still hosts the VMA's. That's a head scratcher! However, with the sickening, raunchy antics of Miley Cyrus (and her ilk), who would really want to watch the VMA's in the first place? Huh. I believe I've turned into my mother. I sure did sound like her just now. (Ok. Yes, I am officially old.)

I remember when my brother told me that there was a new station that played music videos all the time---didn't believe him until I watched it. This was when MTV first came on the air. Oh the memories. What happened????
