Love the ABC cinema verite sweeping crowd shots, and in the moment close-ups of contests near the boundary line. Magnificent.

Never knew Tony Charlton commentated for the ABC after he was at Channel 9 in the '60s. Fantastic commentator.

This the best version of this grand final. Ch7 copy is almost unwatchable, grainy and blurry. Thanks for this.

Vision is much clearer than the Channel 7 broadcast.

Love the ABC commentary and different camera angles than the channel 7 coverage

seven coverage spend more time arguing with each other than calling the game barrasi and a former umpire were annoying

Even though I'm a life-long Pies supporter, it is still heart-breaking seeing Peter Hudson miss out breaking the goal kicking record, though the other thing is just realising that Bob Pratt kicked the 150 goals in less games, so maybe it is fitting that Bob Pratt rightfully retains that record. That aside, what a great gritty game - I remembered most of those player's names even from when I was a kid in the early 70s! Amazing amount of really top notch players!

A much better broadcast than Channel 7's. Picture so clear. Will watch in full this afternoon...Tony Charlton went to the ABC from 9. Great commentary team. I wonder why ch7's vision was so poor, appearing to have technical issues?

Heard that Channel 7's original broadcast was lost.Not a 100% but I recall hearing that the surviving coverageweonly have cause someone filmed the broadcast, which would make sense, if you look at the Sensational 70s their footage of the Grand Final in the snippets they showed seem a lot clearer then what we have today.

I was told by someone from 7 that apparently they erased the master copy so the only copy they saved was the broadcast copy from a TV so you are basically seeing a recording off a TV screen similar to say a VHS tape it’s not broadcast from a nice master video copy to a TV broadcast. Thank god for the ABC.

Both clubs went looking for their 2nd premiership...one is still looking and the other began an era of sustained dominance.

Huddo would have failed today's concussion test after 10 mins in the first quarter.
@palamj2Ай бұрын
Haha yep but under the rules after 71 that hand pass from Keddie in the square to Hudson would be play on and he would have 151. So different errors different results.

The commentator made an error. Peter Hudson was from the south of Tasmania, not the north.

This grand final was being telecast live into northern Tasmania on the ABC, hence the comment from Ken Dakin. Southern Tasmanian viewers got a delayed version (2nd half I think) due to the TFL grand final played at North Hobart Oval on the same day. Interestingly, in an area with just two TV stations at the time, the Channel 7 telecast also aired live in the north through TNT9.
