Mom accused of leaving two young children home alone for days to go on cruise

A Texas mother has been arrested after allegedly leaving her two young children home for days to go on a cruise, court records show.
Lakesha Williams, 29, of Houston, has been charged with abandoning a child with intent to return, a felony.
Neighbors at her high-rise apartment building reportedly saw Williams leave with luggage on April 4 but "never saw her return," according to the complaint.
Deputies conducted a welfare check on Tuesday, five days after Williams allegedly left, and found an 8-year-old boy and a 6-year-old girl alone in the apartment, the complaint stated.

You would die on that hill then. My father took physical custody of us so he wouldn't have to pay child support. My mother let him, because she was not about to fight with a man if he wanted to take care of his kids. This man went out of the country on vacation and left us alone for weeks. We ran out of food. I had to steal food to feed my brother. And I learned, that when you're very hungry, if you drink a big cup of water and put a pinch of salt under your tongue you can trick your body into thinking you're not hungry anymore. When I thought we were going to die I packed my brother up and walked a couple miles to the next town over where my aunt lived. I think that's the only reason we survived. I was 12. There're a horrible single moms and there're horrible single dads. There are horrible parents. You only hear about the moms more because they stick around more often.
