马来西亚华裔也很尴尬。。。abc要解释2个小时才能解释清楚自己的身世，大马华裔可能需要6个小时都未必能解释清楚。。。 “哇，你们马来人的中文居然这么好” -娘诶！我们是大马华裔，不是马来人好吗？！ 然后花2个小时解释“大马华裔”和“马来人”之间的区别并且解释“马来人”的词语构造并不和“中国人/英国人/日本人”等同 然后再花2个小时解释为什么我们中文能够这么好。。。因为我们大马推广中文教育blablabla 于是我还要花2个小时解释我的祖先们是怎么漂洋过海下南洋，然后他们身份的变化以及对于“祖国”的认同转变 于是6小时后 对方一句“所以你是中马混血”对吧？ **本人实力吐血** 所以我在中国的社交网站上的地区一栏都标注中国的其中一个地区，不然得解释个天荒地老都解释不完

其实视频里的那个女生口音是纯中国口音，不是英语口音。 首（sou）超（cao） 很多南方人平常讲话都是都是没有翘舌音的 除非故意去讲翘舌 这样讲话会很慢，还会卡壳。 正常情况下，都是没有翘舌 也没有后鼻音 也没有卷舌音：比如圆（yuan）我都读严（yan）

The english teacher is so accurate, whenever I see english teacher job opportunities in China on my uni's career website they are always looking for native speakers and for the qualifications, any bachelor degree will do and no experiences needed like???

That last part was so true when I visited China. But actually what I've heard is that they've realized what overseas Chinese are so they're much more accepting of us for positions these days since it's better for Chinese kids to see that one of their own can still speak competant English. It gives them confidence more than having a fully foreign teacher teach them especially when they have to point out and adjust the mistakes. The rest of the video is spot on. I feel like it is Chinese culture to excuse foreigners when they don't understand or even seem like they don't understand our culture but it is unacceptable for a Chinese person to do the same even if they were several generations removed. You are just expected to have held onto your roots. Not a bad thing to expect but also not a reality.

I'm not gonna lie, sometimes I get annoyed when people here in China freak out about me being able to use chopsticks or expect that I can't. Sometimes on those occasions I'll grab another pair of chopsticks and eat with a pair in each hands just to mess with them if they were being a condescending about chopstick usage. Also it really annoys me that the last stereotype is true. Some of the best English teachers I know are ABC and it's hard for them to get a job just because of their looks. I'm glad to see that slowly but surely changing.

That’s because in the most Chinese mind, Asia means China, China means Asia, while the white means the Europe and the States as well as means people from there all speak English. Hence Chinese think a person looks like Asian “should” know Mandarin or Cantonese while a white “should” be a native speaker in English. Hence it’s “unforgivable” for a people with an Asian face don’t know Mandarin or Cantonese while a white don’t know English, in some Chinese mind. This is not a kind of racism or discrimination, but a kind of traditional thinking or prejudice actually.

我就是一个华商，说实话虽然是在国外土生土长的，可是还是不能完全融入国外的环境，朋友什么的，毕竟一天24小时有十多小时都是和父母在一起的🌚，这也造成了一种我本人不属于国外或中国的感觉。

Iol so on point; Before I learned the term 华裔, I had to spend my time explaining how Im Chinese American (how my parents immigrated etc etc) to the aunties at Walmart, the dorm security guards at Fudan University, taxi/uber drivers 😂 when I was studying abroad in Shanghai. When I was hanging out with foreign-looking friends, people just automatically assumed I was their tour guide-lol but hey wouldnt have wanted it any other way 😂

I can relate to the English teacher part. I'm Indonesian Chinese which almost all of the people I met said that my face is just the same as the locals. Recently, I just attended a job fair for foreigner in China, and most of the schools or companies are searching for an English teacher, which their criteria is "English as mother language". When we walked into the hall, I'm walking with my fellow friend (one of them is Spanish), and suddenly one of the company representatives approach my Spanish friend and offering a job, meanwhile me and my friends just like..... at that time we have a tag on our clothes to differentiate us from locals. I know it's not their wrong, maybe they just didn't know about that... but when we dropping our CV and talking to the companies or school representative, I know there's a difference. They don't treat us the same as the other "老外“ who really has that foreigner's face.

It's similiar in Korea, where academies are known hire based on race because the parents 'demand' a 외국 (外國) teacher. Hence a lot of private school openings go to Russian immigrants whose English may be shaky at best, leaving many Westernized Asians competing over the much smaller government-run EPIK slots and high-end individual language tutoring where natively understanding and being able to and explain the nuances is more appreciated.

十几年前的时候吧，我在国内的一个英文培训班学英文。培训班有中国老师也有外教，中国老师主要教语法外教就陪学生聊天练口语，外教的价格是中国老师的几倍。当时我们培训班有个老师，在中国出生，三岁就全家移民到了某英语国家，大学学的还是英文专业。本来他的课程是按外教收费的，我觉得没问题啊，但是培训班的家长投诉，这个老师就去教语法了，收费也是按中国老师收。当时培训班中国老师的工资大概几千块钱，我不记得了，反正比普通白领好点，外教一个月一万多（都是老师跟我们聊天的时候自己说的）。这在当时我们一个二线城市绝对的高收入。再看看那些外教，除了一个英国人是肚子里面有点东西以外，其他的就是洋垃圾，在自己国家混得不咋地就来中国教英语了，这不是我瞎猜的，是他们聊天的时候自己说的，说的时候还很自豪。我还记得一个黑人，不知道哪里的口音，我上了两堂课以后就再也没有人听得懂我的英语了

不只是国人觉得白人比自己的同胞高一等，世界的大环境也是如此啊，种族歧视是永远不可能被磨灭的。前些日子看过一份调查，全球500强企业，居然只有9个亚裔CEO。。。很多亚裔都表示自己永远无法觉得那么安心那么舒适，跟在欧美的白人相比，所以宁愿回到自己的血统发源地。。，真心希望亚裔势力可以崛起

Honestly it applies to any language, but luckily most of Chinese are pretty welcoming and forgiving when it comes to laowai coming to China and speaking Chinese. So take it easy and Chinese oral is difficult but grammatically speaking is probably one of the easiest. Anyways I am saying this as a Chinese so I might be biased. I am learning Spanish and the toughest part is always to talk and communicate without any disruption of looking for the right word and conjugation etc. It takes time and practice. Luckily Spanish speakers are pretty forgiving too when some foreigner tries to speak Spanish. English speaking countries have a very high expectation of how everybody should speak fluent English the first day he/she landed.

Me, part like Jenny I am an Australia Born Irish it means I have Irish accent and I look like European. I found a strange thing when I was in Shanghai, one day I was taking an job interview of English teacher in a campus, an interviewer told me that I have a strange accent and question me if I am able to speak native English(Like British or American LoL). I was, OMG!!!! of course I can speak English and it's my bloody mother tongue!!!!!! Otherwise if you want me to teanch students Gaelic im glad to do. Then interviewer said he wants an american or british for teaching english, and I repied: WE MADE THE U.S APPEAR ON THE EARTH.

Actually, I kinda understand why the interviewer wants a British or Amercian. My first foreign English teacher is Irish, he has a very strong accent, at that time we're like 7 or 8 years old maybe and it's the first time for most of us talking to a native speaker. It was very difficult to catch the word, then he left the school bcuz student could barely understand his accent. I mean I'm really sorry about what happened to you, but the market is like that...

这个问题确实存在，我大学的日语老师是211研究生毕业，一个月只有3千多。还有一个“外教”姓陆木，但其实他是中国人后来加入日本国籍，一个日本三流大学旅游観光专业毕业的，但是一个月8千。这就是差距，学历低于国籍。
