i don't know why, but the moment I think that *really* solidified Troy and Abed as the closest pairing in the show, AND makes this such a healthy representation of friendship with autistic people is 7:20. I know it's early in the show, but it's Abed taking what his friend said seriously about how to be friends, doing things in order to solidify their friendship, and when it goes too far, it's not Abed who has to do the whole 'apology' or 'let me right this' bit, but rather it's *TROY* that does it. He realized he made a rule in their friendship that would impact both of them negatively, a rule that he accidentally set to Abed on what constitutes friendship, and sets a new rule/boundary for _both_ of them to follow to keep their friendship stronger (and also for Abed to understand how to be a good friend), a rule that is actually referenced and carried down further in the show. It's amazing and its just episode FIVE.

3:29 "Make his own decisions?? Have you *_met_* Abed??" I feel like this hits so hard because as someone who's autistic/adhd, I'm always caught between "I just want someone to make all these decisions for me so I don't have to think about it" and "if you tell me what to do even once I will destroy everyone in this room and then myself"
@way2dead4u5 ай бұрын
2:14:39 also with the Mr. Hickey (criminology prof.) and Abed scene, I feel like they both made really good points (you're right, that setup is so forced it hurts); Abed is trying to point out that yeah, maybe he can go overboard but it's usually how people respond to him that _makes_ them the bullies -- it's why the Mr. Hickey is considered a bully in this scene too. Abed was wrong, he'd been willing to admit that, but any point after that is Mr. Hickey not responding appropriately and therefore undermining his whole point of consequences like when Britta is fed up with Abed using her money in S1 and not going to said film class she's paying for, she doesn't tell him directly what to do, just that it's wrong. She doesn't handcuff him or physically hurt him, she tries to get Abed to understand how his actions made her feel and how he could respond in kind. (Or Abed and Shirley making the movie in S2.) Abed learned from that situation, he never really did anything close to that to Britta again. but I don't think Buzz taught him a lesson, I think it was just another "wait it out still you're safe" reaction. cuz my question for Mr. Buzz Hickey would be "why would I listen to you when I already don't agree with your actions"

As a person with Asperger's myself, there are a lot of things about Abed that I can relate to. Struggling to read social cues, having special interests in movies or games or whatnot. I find it's good to have someone like Abed in media, it kind of helps others understand the struggles that autistic individuals have to go through.
